San Fran Music Tech Conference

Posted by Jessica Emmerich On February - 29 - 2008

Last Monday I attended the San Fran Music Tech conference in none other than San Francisco. Morning rush hour commuting is terrible, it took me 3 hours to get to the hotel where the conference took place, which should only be 2 hours max according to Google Maps. Yet Google maps also told me the San Fransisco International Airport was on the Great Hwy and told me to turn left. For anyone who’s ever been on the Great Hwy knows if you turn left in the direction I was going you’d be in the Great Pacific Ocean. Unless Google has a new top secret project where they are constructing an underwater airport with Wi-Fi, they got it wrong. I digress.

The RIAA vs The Artists they Represent

Posted by Jessica Emmerich On February - 28 - 2008

Apparently no one can play hide and seek with the RIAA, if you are downloading illegally on a P2P network, but they are the ones that are hiding now and holding money hostage.

Apparently, enough time has past to strike worry in some artists and artist’s managers such as John Branca (The Rolling Stones, Korn) and Irving Azoff (Christina Aguilera, The Eagles, Van Halen, and Seal) as to when they are seeing money from the lawsuits. None of the artists that are represented by the labels that sued, and collected on the upwards of $400 million , have seen a dime. No legal action has been taken yet, but could only be a matter of time.

Mariah is Back Baby!

Mariah Carey
Touch My Body

mariah carey touch

Mariah Carey’s new single, Touch My Body, from her upcoming album E=MC2 is a hit. As usual. All of her songs are basically hits. That is just how it is ladies and gentlemen. The first thing I thought after hearing Mariah’s new single was, “Wow, she kind of held back on belting out the notes near the end of the song.” A typical Mariah song usually starts out with light, airy, breathy vocals and gets gradually stronger and louder throughout the second verse and chorus. After the bridge is when Mariah normally lets it rip, so to speak. Her vocal range is more than any opera singer! She has at least five octaves that she can sing in anytime, anywhere. I respect her as a singer more than any other diva alive. And no, I have no problem whatsoever calling her a diva. I truly believe she deserves that title.

Everybody’s Foo Fighting!

Foo Fighters DAVE

Oh. My. God. I think I am in love. With Dave Grohl that is! After seeing him live with his band, the Foo Fighters, on Monday night, I now think he is pretty much the coolest guy ever. In the entire world. Seriously. One of the band’s roadies came up to me during the first song Let It Die and told me to get my camera ready because Dave was going to come over to the speakers right in front of me and be about five feet away. The picture below is proof that indeed, the roadie was telling the truth. I will be forever grateful for his warning, however random it seemed at the time.

PicrossDS: A Puzzling Game

Posted by Erin Lavelle On February - 27 - 2008

Hello friends and gamers! Welcome to the second weekly installment of Music in Games. This week I’ll be covering a neat little handheld game-PicrossDS!

PicrossDS

This Nintendo DS game was released by Nintendo and Jupiter in 2007. At face value, Picross is a very simple game where there is a set number if pixels (10×10 or 15x 15 and even later on advanced levels, 20×20) with a picture hidden inside. By using number guides on the sides of the puzzle, the player must discover the image within the pixels via process of elimination.

Giving Back To The Patrons

Posted by Yvette Casillas On February - 27 - 2008

Every bar has their weekday specials to get more customers in the door. What makes me angry is why not have drink specials on the weekend? I know, it’s because people are out and about more on the weekend anyway, so why bother? Let’s make as much money as we can! But seriously I would totally opt to go to a neighborhood bar to socialize, see a band, and have some reasonable priced drinks. It’s better than cleaning my house. Why don’t our neighborhood bars give back a little more to us patrons?

I know the last time I posted about The Little Big Horn there was a lot of disappointment, but I have to admit I think they are on to something. We noticed this sign, try to look past the grammar.

Having the bartender match the money you play in the jukebox is a pretty sweet deal. If there was a bar near me who offered to match my jukebox monies I would totally be a Monday regular!

Princess Of Darkness: Marilyn Manson

Marilyn Manson Wiltern

No thanks to the pr person, we were unable to acquire photo passes for this particular show. Another of our writers had gone to Manson’s show in Chicago only a few weeks ago, but was allowed in with a camera. If this was not a problem then we should have been told that. However, after several last minute attempts on Ticketmaster we managed to purchase two tickets for the show. The reviews must go on. After a two hour drive we waited in line (which wrapped around the block all the way back to the parking garage) for over an hour to enter the Wiltern. Upon entering the building we noticed immediately that it was a symphony hall. The hall was nice but nothing as nice as the majestic Copley Hall in San Diego. The crowd was immediately packing onto the stadium-like floor space. An upper mezzanine had seats, but we had opted for the floor tics.

Did Linkin Park’s Apple Sour?

Posted by Jessica Emmerich On February - 21 - 2008

The “secret” gig Linkin Park was to play at Apple is apparently no more. The reason’s are undisclosed at this time. I feel as if I am writing about a court case with sensitive materials here. I must say, Apple is good at keeping secrets.

The gig Linkin Park did play was at an Apple Store in SoHo, New York last night at 11:55pm.
