Aragon Ballroom – Chicago, IL
I can now say that I have seen Marilyn Manson live in concert at least once during my lifetime. And let me tell you: it was NOT as bad as I thought it would be. Manson has toned down a lot. His show is a rock show, plain and simple. I was surprised by how “normal” his performance is. There was no nudity, no topless (or bottomless) girls on stage, no anal rape, no sex, etc. Manson wore black pleather pants the whole time and had multiple shirt changes. He came out at the start of the show with a microphone that had a huge knife blade pointing toward the crowd and proceeded to sing with this knife/microphone for the first few songs.
The show was free and that is the only reason why I went to this concert. Honestly, if I had to pay for my ticket, I would NOT have gone. I am not a huge fan of Marilyn Manson and never have been. I only know two of this songs: “The Dope Show” and “The Beautiful People.” Of course, the show lasted more than an hour and a half and he saved those two songs for the end of his set. “The Dope Show” was the last song before Manson’s FIRST encore (yes, he had two encores). “The Beautiful People” was the LAST SONG of the night and my personal favorite. I guess it was worth the wait though.
All in all, I was impressed by Marilyn Manson. I would recommend that everyone should see him in concert at least one time before they die if you have the chance. Try to get in for free if you refuse to pay! The experience is one to remember…
