The Hush Sound
Beat Kitchen – Chicago, IL
Chicago’s very own The Hush Sound played a SOLD OUT show at the Beat Kitchen on Tuesday night to celebrate the release of their new album, Goodbye Blues. The CD came out on Tuesday as well and I ended up buying it from their merch table/guy after the show. I had previously bought their new single, Honey, on iTunes a couple weeks ago, so that was the only new song I recognized. It was crazy seeing them play Beat Kitchen seeing as how I saw them in December playing to a sold out crowd at Park West. The capacity at PW is over 900! The BK can hold 250 people. Major difference. But that just means that the people at this CD release show were the true fans who bought their tickets the second they went on sale. Besides playing songs from the first two albums – So Sudden & Like Vines – The Hush Sound also did a great cover of Tom Petty’s American Girl, which was one of the best sing-alongs of the evening!
The band played about an hour long set, but since I came straight from school, I only saw the second half. I found out that the first song of the night just happened to be my favorite THS song – Don’t Wake Me Up. You can imagine how pissed I was to miss the band play my favorite song! Oh well, I have seen THS many times before, but it never gets old because their songs are just so darn catchy and easy to sing along to. I would have to say that the new songs Honey and Medicine Man from Goodbye Blues are definitely the two most catchiest tracks on the new record. If I had to pick the radio-friendly songs with the best hooks and easy-to-remember choruses, it would for sure be those two tracks.
