Penny Road Pub
Penny Road & Extraordinary Promotions hosted their very first Manicure & Martini Party sponsored by Effen Vodka. The evening consisted of martinis, manicures & live music by Acoustic Playback. I must say the flyers that were passed out were deceiving. It mentioned the general information (date, time, place, band) but did not say that there would be a charge. When I spoke with the gentlemen who passed out such flyers he mentioned manicures and martinis for only $3. I assumed the drinks would be included, I was dead wrong! To get your nails done, was only $3. But the featured martinis were roughly $6 each.
The event was supposed to start at 6:30 but the first manicure wasn’t given until 7:30. I don’t really know what the protocol is for doing nails in a bar, but I was sadly disappointed with my manicure. My sister and I got our nails done at the same time and she got the hook up! I was so looking forward to getting my cuticles cut but all I got was painted nails. Usually getting my nails done is a relaxing treat, this time I felt like I was playing a game of 20 questions. The lady from City Nails & Spa kept asking me where I live, where do I get my nails done at, how often do I get my nails done, blah blah blah. It was a manicurist interrogation!
My only complaint about Penny Road was not having the necessary ingredients to make one of the featured drinks. I ordered the French Manicure and had to choose something else because they were out of Chambourd.
Acoustic Playback played a variety of classic hits. We listened to everything from Johnny Cash-Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers-Lynard Skynard-Neil Diamond. They were fabulous.
Overall, this event was a sort of a flop for me. Downside: poor planning and marketing. Upside: great music and good martinis.
