New music from two of my favorite artists. What more could I ask for? I LOVE the new Mariah Carey album, E=MC2, as well as the new Coldplay single, Violet Hill. The first I paid for legally via purchasing it in cold hard cash at my local Best Buy. The latter, I got for FREE the night it was available for download.
Mariah is ruling the charts with this year’s top album debut. Carey scored a career-best selling 463,000 copies of her new record in the first week of its release. E=MC2 sold 50,000 copies online alone! Her last album, 2005’s The Emancipation of Mimi, sold SEVEN million copies and was that year’s best-selling album. Mariah has sold over 160 million albums worldwide since her career began 18 years ago. She now has more Number One singles than Elvis Presley. Only the Beatles have her beaten with 20 of their own Number One singles on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.
In other news, Coldplay’s new single Violet Hill is Rolling Stone magazine’s MUST HAVE Download of the week. Not a day goes by that I do not hear somebody exclaiming how much they are into the new song and the band’s angrier rock sound. The new album is entitled Viva la Vida or Death and All His Friends and comes out this June! I cannot wait for new songs from one of my favorite bands. If you didn’t get a chance to download the song during the week it was free, that is too bad. But that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t buy it on iTunes right now for $0.99. Do it!!!
