Megadeth (Gigantour 2008)
Cox Arena – San Diego, CA
Time ticked down and Dave Mustaine hit the stage to a roaring crowd. This was the moment the crowd was waiting for. The stage was covered with fog and the lights were blaring. Dave kicked it off with a slurring of songs one into another. I can’t remember the first for songs because I was taking photos and making sure Dave wasn’t going to take my camera, but the second song was “Awake” and the fourth was “Skin O’ My Teeth.”
New songs included in the set included “Burn Ties” which is a song Dave preluded with when people take stuff and don’t know what they are doing. The one noticeable thing that was missing for a good part of the set was Dave’s vocals. They just wouldn’t pop through the massive wall of guitars. They were kicked up around “A Tout Le Monde.” Thank goodness they did because that is one of my favorites of Megadeth’s.
The crowd also appeased the cameras and band when they started shouting “Megadeth.” Then they proceeded right into “My Darkest Hour.” Then the recording came in of an orchestra and the audience knew what that meant….”Symphany of Destruction.” Circle pits were in mode and all being caught live for the DVD. The hits kept coming as Megadeth played “Trust.” After one more song they stepped offstage then came back for encore. Dave came out to thank the crowd for being there and then played “Holy Wars.” Dave was accompanied onstage by Chris Broderick on guitar, Shawn Drover on Drums, and James Lomenzo on bass. All these guys were incredible onstage and had enormous amount of stage presence. Remember to look out for the DVD of the Gigantour 2008 in San Diego.
