Robert Randolph on Music Builds Tour 2008
Cricket Wireless – Chula Vista, CA
Robert Randolph – pedal steel
Danyel Morgan – bass
Marcus Randolph – drums
Jason Crosby – organ, piano, violin
We went to the Music Builds Tour to cover Jars of Clay, but we came out a fan of Robert Randolph. Before we walked through the gates of the Crickets Wireless in Chula Vista, people were a buzz with Robert Randolph, saying he was the one to watch tonight. I hadn’t heard of him until that day at Cricket.
Robert Randolph is dubbed as the American Funk band. He plays the pedal steel guitar, and I must say the man plays it like it was a part of him. He also is joined by family memebers such as his cousin Marcus on drums and he brought his sister out for some backing vocal support.
His music is insanely contagious and had everybody on their feet dancing. Robert was even kind enough to teach us how to do a little dance that he’s been doing for ages. The songs are epically long and I would usually have a problem with that, except his songs are good and catchy. My favorite is “Ain’t Nothing Wrong with That.” If you go to his MySpace and hear the song, it’s super energtic. Now imagine that song having 10 times more soul in it….that’s Robert and the Family live. The music comes out and grabs you.
