METRIC RELEASES VIDEO FOR “HELP I’M ALIVE”

Metric has teamed up with Deco Dawson to create a video for “Help I’m Alive.” This is not a music video, but a short film. Click HERE or the image below to view the film. Also below is what Metric had to say about the partnership.

youtube

So check it out. Before Christmas we did a tour across Canada in conjunction with a kids’ charity and made a limited edition 7 inch vinyl single of “Help I’m Alive” originally to be sold only at the December shows. The world being what it is, the song got leaked onto the internet from the pressing plant and took on a life of its own. Suddenly, we were getting calls from radio stations all over the world, from Australia to Ireland, saying they were playing the hell out of “Help, I’m Alive”. This totally caught us off guard. We never could have guessed that this song would be a radio contender! It’s success proved our theory that programmers and listeners are more open minded than anyone gives them credit for! Meanwhile, we were all set to release “Gimme Sympathy” as our logical first single but “Help I’m Alive” continued to amaze & confuse us by climbing all the way up to the top of the charts. The song became Metric’s first #1 hit and we thanked the mysterious universe.

What came next only makes sense in such a scenario. When I was working with Winnipeg cult-filmmaker Guy Maddin on visual projections for my Soft Skeleton tour, I met Maddin’s editor and co-cinematographer Deco Dawson. Guy Maddin is known as the Canadian David Lynch and I love Deco’s editing of “Heart of the World”. Deco has since become one of the country’s foremost experimental film makers and a friend of the band. He edited Metric’s live concert DVD “Live at Metropolis” and we brought him along to oversee the live filming of Fantasies on our December tour. A few weeks ago, as we were scrambling to keep up with the unexpected radio momentum of Help I’m Alive, we got a call from Deco saying he had a surprise for us: He had taken the concert footage of “Help I’m Alive” and turned it into something that looks like Yo Gabba Gabba on acid. Jimmy held a late night test screening of Deco’s creation at Giant Studio to rave reviews and now we have decided to share it with the online world.

Asobi Seksu Play LOS ANGELES To Support Yann Tiersen On 5.2 At El Rey

New LP Hush Out Now On Polyvinyl

SPIN **** (4 Stars) : “This Brooklyn group’s previous albums established them as shoegaze confectioners, molding candy swirls out of Yuki Chikudate’s soaring, translucent voice and guitarist James Hanna’s Kevin Shields-worshiping production. But here, Asobi Seksu do something My Bloody Valentine can’t — leave Shields behind. “Sing Tomorrow’s Praise” and “Me & Mary” evoke iciness over icing, with more expansive cool than insidious sweetness. And the duo’s seasick guitars (“Layers”), ethereal synths (“Gliss”), and Japanese lyricism (“Meh No Mae”) still provide plenty of geeky studio epiphanies.”

MONOCLE “‘Hush is their best yet: dreamy pop that drips with infectious imagination while handily living up their unusual name”

UNCUT **** (4 Stars):  “Sumptuous slices of bliss-pop with an art-punk edge”

PLAN B : “After a period as America’s finest shoegaze revivalists, Asobi Seksu now leave genres behind and document the night sky”

CLASH : “‘Contenders for being one of the most inventive bands out there”

New Found Glory Isn’t Going Anywhere Without A Fight

New Found Glory

New Found Glory Chicago

Jordan Pundik (lead vocals)

Believe it or not, this past Saturday I saw New Found Glory live in concert for the first time in my life. That is pretty amazing to me, seeing as how this band has been around since 1999 when I was a freshman in high school! New Found Glory has now officially been on the map in the music industry for a decade. I still cannot figure out how I went ten years not catching the fivesome from Florida in concert. I suppose there is a first time for everything and I shouldn’t be so hard on myself. But really, come on! I felt like such a slacker not knowing any of the words to NFG’s songs performed the other night. Honestly though, I only have New Found Glory’s latest record Not Without A Fight, so I was familiar with songs like “Don’t Let Her Pull You Down,” “Truck Stop Blues,” and “Listen To Your Friends.” I have come to realize that Mark Hoppus is responsible for my newfound (pun intended) spark of interest in New Found Glory. Hoppus’s blog/website always turns me on to new artists. Well, new for me that is. Most of the bands Mark blogs about have been around for years, but for some reason or another, I never listened to them in the past. I need to meet Mark some day so I can thank him in person for helping me discover new music – good music too!

Moving on to the actual show… I admit, I was very impressed with the energy of NFG. Apparently, Chicago was the only show on the band’s current Not Without A Fight tour that SOLD OUT. Yay Chicago! I think that fact helped the band keep up their enthusiasm to be playing at The Windy City’s House of Blues for 1,400 adoring fans. It was song after song after song – no boring wait time in between. And when there was lag time, the boys took turns telling stories about each other from back in the day. I learned that Jordan Pundik (lead vocalist) and Steve Klein (rhythm guitar, lyrics) used to work at Red Lobster in the kitchen together. Jordan also worked at Walgreens for a bit after Red Lobster. Been there, done that: I used to work at Olive Garden as a hostess. Blah. HATED that job. It was refreshing to hear that these guys used to have normal so-so jobs as teenagers and young 20-somethings to pay the bills. I could truly see how grateful New Found Glory is for their career during this show. Lead guitarist Chad Gilbert thanked the crowd profusely before and after NFG’s “fake last song” and after the night’s encore. You are welcome!

Rihanna Seeks Jewelry Return Worth $1.4 million

Posted by Yvette Casillas On April - 28 - 2009

Rihanna Chicago 4

Rihanna is requesting the return of nearly $1.4 million in jewelry she was wearing on February 7th, the night of her brutal encounter with then boyfriend Chris Brown. E!  says the Los Angeles Police Department took a bloodstained Gucci dress along with a pair of earrings and three rings as evidence, and now the companies that loaned the jewelry for Grammy weekend want the costly pieces back.

Rihanna’s request for the returned jewelry will be on the docket in court tomorrow when the trial against Chris Brown has its next preliminary hearing (Brown will not attend). Brown pleaded “not guilty” at his arraignment earlier this month to felony assult charges. If convicted, he faces up to nine years in prison. Brown’s lawyers, including famed attorney Mark Geragos, are reportedly working with Los Angeles district attorneys to hammer out a plea agreement before the case actually goes to trial. Rihanna’s lawyer Donald Etra states, “Apparently, initially, the police felt that it would be needed as evidence. Now the belief is that photographs would be more than sufficient.” Etra has said his client “wants this to be over quickly.”
