House of Blues – Chicago, IL
March 26, 2009
Katy Perry is anything but boring. I’ve heard through the grapevine that her live show is nothing special. I have no idea what those people are talking about. They must be smoking something. I have seen Katy Perry perform three times now, and each time I have been anything but disappointed. I was quite impressed that Katy performed every single song from her debut album One Of The Boys. Not even Lady GaGa managed to squeeze all of her songs into her live show. Katy sang all 12 songs from her record PLUS the bonus track “I Think I’m Ready.”
For the night’s encore, Katy Perry emerged from backstage in a skintight pink leopard/cheetah print leotard/catsuit – complete with tail and headband with cat ears. You would’ve had to been there in order to visualize what I’m talking about. It was quite the sight. Oh Katy Perry, how I love thee. Perry sang a tribute to one of her favorite bands/influences – “Don’t Stop Me Now” by Queen – before launching into the song everybody in the crowd was there to hear. As evident in my photos (below), Katy Perry’s microphone was completely bedazzled with silver rhinestones and featured two cherries. The stage had around a dozen gigantic strawberries as its backdrop. Also, unlike GaGa, Katy only had two costume changes throughout her show – GaGa had five!
Perry was adamant about thanking the audience for making her Chicago stop a SOLD OUT success. “A year and a half ago, I was no where near this, so thank you so much,” Perry exclaimed more than once during the evening. The highlight of the show was most definitely during “I Kissed A Girl” when Perry took two enormous blown up strawberries from the stage and threw them out into the audience. We all then had an absolute blast hitting around these strawberries while singing along to Katy Perry’s biggest hit that brought her mainstream success.
