Art Brut Starts US Tour Next Week

Art Brut VS. Satan Out Now To Rave Reviews On Downtown Records

NPR : “Art Brut vs. Satan, Argos goes back to what he knows. When a song titled “The Replacements” appears, it’s already the third of four consecutive tracks about rock ‘n’ roll itself. There are only two cuts about love, and soon enough, one of those (“What a Rush”) moves on to the subject of music, too”

“Argos doesn’t claim to live clean. Art Brut vs. Satan begins with one called “Alcoholics Unanimous” and ends with one called “Mysterious Bruises,” keyed to the wonderful line, “I fought the floor and the floor won.” But there are also several songs about being young and poor – or, in the case of the one called “DC Comics and Chocolate Milkshake,” being 28 and still eating nothing but cereal.”
http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=103572432

Pitchfork : “If they can’t topple vague, pasty, barely breathing background rock from the charts, at least they can sing gloriously doomed songs about it.”

The Charlatans UK Announce US Fall 2009 Tour

Posted by Yvette Casillas On May - 30 - 2009

Tenth Studio LP You Cross My Path Out This September

Pitchfork : ” [You Cross My Path] is pretty representative of the dichotomy existent within You Cross My Path: as possibly their strongest work since Tellin’ Stories, it’s something that the Charlatans UK can expect to favorably speak for itself”

The Independent UK (4 Stars) : “Indeed, so replete with both is You Cross My Path that it may turn out to be The Charlatans’ best album.
http://www.independent.co.uk/arts-entertainment/music/reviews/album-the-charlatans-you-cross-my-path-xfm-792574.html

BBC : ” The opening swagger of Oh! Vanity has a touch of Oasis in its blocky guitars and suspect scansion. But the key influence seems to be New Order on tracks like The Misbegotten or Mis-Takes with their popping sequencers and beligerent bass riffs. The vibe can also get a little punky on speedier thrill rides like the title track.”

Maxim UK : “The grand old men of indie returned with their best album in years”

The Builders And The Butchers Announce US Summer Tour

Posted by Yvette Casillas On May - 30 - 2009

And Play Lollapalooza
Sophomore Record Salvation Is A Deep Dark Well On Gigantic Music June 30th

Daytrotter Sessions Out Now : http://www.daytrotter.com/dt/the-builders-and-the-butchers-evidencing-the-raw-new-hell-castle-concert/20030448-3737826.html

RCRD LBL – These guys are infamous for riotous live musical performances- the kind that explodes sweaty southern roots gospel music throughout the room until everyone feels warm, gooey and swampy inside. (Which is kind of ironic seen as they are from Portland). It helps they use random equipment (like an oil funnel) as props and instruments. It also helps that they pass an assortment of lids and tambourines like a kindergarten teacher did during chorus class and let us all regress to our juvenile sing-along selves. Really, if you haven’t seen it yet, see it soon.

The Riders Back Home in San Diego at the House of Blues

Posted by Jessica Emmerich On May - 29 - 2009

The Riders (Opening for Robin Trower)
House of Blues- San Diego, CA
5/27/2009

Tom Cusimano – Vocals, Guitar, Piano
Jimmy Olson – Drums
Mike Clairmont – Bass
Devin Shea – Violin
Niel MacPherson – Piano/Organ

the Riders HOB 5.27

First confession of the night, I didn’t stay for Robin Trower, the headliner for the night. I was more excited to see his openers, the Riders. The big question of the night I was hearing as people were lining up for Robin’s performance at the House Blues was, “What kind of music are the Riders?” Let me just answer that for everybody who wasn’t standing in that line. The Riders are a young classic rock sounding band. It’s hard not to sound like you came from the classic rock era when your producer/engineer team is made up of Richie Podolor and Bill Cooper (Three Dog Night, Steppenwolf, Michelle Branch).

Cymbals Eat Guitars To Release Debut LP Why There Are Mountains

Posted by Yvette Casillas On May - 29 - 2009

Out Sept 22nd On Sister’s Den Records  / Play Pitchfork Festival July 18th
On East Coast Tour Now / Play Southpaw This Wednesday & June 4th With Art Brut

“You could blame it on so many bands being from autophobic NYC, or that the Pacific Northwest gods of indie are still going too strong to already be a primary influence, but neither would explain New York’s Cymbals Eat Guitars’ Why There Are Mountains. While there’s plenty of geographical signifiers on their debut, it’s almost topographic in its approach, without hooks and choruses so much as map-like layouts of mountains and sloping valleys.” — Pitchfork [Best New Music]

“The most obvious thing about Cymbals Eat Guitars is that their epic, widescreen indie rock bears a striking resemblance to that of Built To Spill and early Modest Mouse.” – Fluxblog

“Why There Are Mountains may be one of the best ‘indie’ (the album is self-released, so, y’know, actually ‘indie’) albums of the year. And with the major label skyline being obliterated like something out of Independence Day, it’s time to batten down the hatches.” – NME

Rolling Stone (*** Stars) : “There are moments on this New Zealand quartet’s debut when they sound like the best buzz band in the world”
http://www.rollingstone.com/reviews/album/24473809/review/25524036/you_and_i

Pitchfork Media : “a synthesis of starry-eyed Britpop with post-punk’s brittle rhythms and girl-group harmonies. ”
