Last week I was in Cali visiting my bff Jessica. Since this was my very first Cinco de Mayo not being in the windy city I decided to yelp around to see what was going on. While looking for events in San Diego I came across La Puerta. They were having a brunch special from 10am-2pm serving up dollar mimosas, SOLD! We headed down crossing our fingers not knowing what to expect since Jess had never been. We were pleasantly surprised, this place was incredible!

Décor: It’s a smaller establishment made up of a decent size bar, gigantic comfy booths, some tables  & a handful of flat screen TV’s.

The Crowd: Sociable group! Everyone was super friendly. There was even a girl who approached us asking if the mimosas were really $1.

Service: So welcoming, our server was great. I especially loved her because she kept feeding me cheap drinks. The bartenders were equally great, didn’t have to wait long for our orders.

Liquid Courage On Tap: Even though I was distracted by the $1 mimosas La Puerta did have a fine tap selection.

New Castle

Dos Equis Lager

Dos Equis Ambar

Cucapa

Yellow Tail

Miller Lite

Eats: Complimentary chips and 2 kinds of salsa, you know a green and red. Both very flavorful & just spicy enough! For an appetizer we ordered the Breakfast Quesadilla they were filled with Cotijia Cheese, Panela Cheese, Jack Cheese, salsa fresca & scrambled eggs with a slice of avocado on top, so delicious!

For my entrée I had the 2 eggs with beans, cubed potatoes & tortillas. Jess had the Breakfast Burrito, it was huge packed with eggs, ham, bacon, onions, fries, Jack Cheese, and a side of potatoes & beans.

Sounds: The tunage was fun & energized. Lots of classic rock favorites like Zeppelin, Black Crows & ZZ Top.

Parking: There are meters on the street along with garage parking that was pretty reasonable. We were in the area for about 4-5 hrs and only paid $7, not too shabby!

Overall: Oh La Puerta! If I lived in San Diego you would be my #1 hang out. You truly saved my Cinco de Mayo. Your food was tasty, the drinks were flowing & your servers are delightful.
