THE FRAY TEAMS WITH REVERB
FOR EARTH-FRIENDLY TOUR
Band continues partnership with environmental group to reduce its “footprint” and engage fans
(DATELINE – Denver, CO) The Fray with the help of environmental non-profit Reverb, is proud to announce a number of large-scale environmental efforts on their summer tour, including an outreach program educating and engaging fans to take action.
“We have an opportunity to let thousands of people each night know about simple ways they can be more eco-friendly,” says The Fray guitarist Dave Welsh. “We also get to ‘walk the talk’ with the various efforts Reverb is helping us with on tour.”
Environmental efforts on this tour include:
- Reducing then neutralizing CO2 emissions from venue energy use, hotels, flights, and touring vehicles by supporting the construction of new renewable energy projects such as wind farms. Carbon offsets provided by NativeEnergy.
- Extensive waste reduction and recycling backstage, including use of reusable water bottles and 5-gallon refillable bubblers reducing the use of plastic bottled water.
- Working directly with venue operators and promoters to help reduce energy consumption and waste in the front-of-house.
- The use of sustainable supplies and goods such as biodegradable and reusable catering products.
- Sourcing local and organic food for catering and composting food waste when possible.
- An online fan carpooling service created by PickupPal specifically for this tour. Fans who participate in the program will be entered to win autographed prizes.
- A fan outreach Eco-Village at each show consisting of local environmental groups, green technologies, and a fan carbon offset program.
- A dedicated Greening Website to reach fans on-line before and after the show.
“Our joint efforts on the band’s 2007 tours resulted in reducing 592 tons of CO2, the equivalent of not driving 1.2 million miles,” says Reverb’s Co-Director, Lauren Sullivan. “We’re thrilled to be working with the band again this year and taking it to the next level.”
To help expand the program, a Reverb staff member will be folded into the band’s touring crew to implement all greening efforts backstage while also coordinating fan outreach and education at the Eco-Village on each tour stop.
The Fray will officially hit the road on June 12th at the Chastain Park Amphitheatre in Atlanta, GA, in celebration of the success of their sophomore self-titled album and cover 35 major cities across America, wrapping things up at the Spokane Arena in Spokane, WA. Forming in 2002, the Denver-based quartet is comprised of Isaac Slade (vocals, piano), Joe King (guitar, vocals), Ben Wysocki (drums) and Dave Welsh (guitar). The band has struck a huge chord with audiences and turned their organic, grassroots success into worldwide sales of 3.2 million albums and over 8 million digital singles sold.
The Denver-based band recently released their highly-anticipated sophomore album on February 3rd. The album debuted at #1 on Billboard’s Top 200 chart and has already been certified GOLD sparked in part by the huge success of their first single, “You Found Me,” which made its primetime debut in an exclusive video for ABC’s hit show “Lost”. Fueled by performances on the American Music Awards, The Late Show with David Letterman, The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, Jimmy Kimmel Live and Good Morning America, the infectious single has already sold over two million copies and has just celebrated it’s 12th consecutive week at #1 on the Hot AC Chart. The band’s current single, “Never Say Never” – which is one of the fastest growing songs on the Adult Top 40 Airplay Chart -has already had key placement in MTV’s The Hills as well as One Tree Hill and just entered the Pop Chart this past week. The band can also be seen performing “Never Say Never” on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon on June 18th and The Today Show Summer Concert Series on June 26th.
