Glass Ghost To Release Debut LP Idol Omen On Western Vinyl October 27th

Posted by Yvette Casillas On July - 30 - 2009

Tracklisting Revealed / Announce East Coast Tour Dates

Earfarm – “…their new project flies on its own accord on the strength of literate vocals with a sweetly falsetto delivery (imagine David Byrne on helium?) and wonderfully busy drums that recall the awesomeness of the Dodos’ Logan Kroeber’s inimitable style. Groovily paranoid? Paranoia with grooves? Works both ways really.”

Pop Tarts Suck Toasted – “This duo is definitely making their own mark on the New York scene. With sweet vocals and awesome stuttering drums the band makes an immediate impact with very little going on onstage. It’s simple, it’s awesome, you should start listening.”

Impose Magazine – “…spare, evocative pieces for rambling keys and crisp drums.”

The Deli – “A cool band you should check out: Glass Ghost….their sparse, intimate, intense and intriguing atmospheres might conquer you (and your date?)”

The Fmly – “It’s the magic of falsetto, emotionally evocative keyboard and a one man african drum group that initially caught my ear…”

Performs Solo at Bruar Falls, 8.2 with Supper (Also Record Release!) and Glass Ghost

Paul Damian Hogan the Third leads Frances, a Brooklyn-based multi-instrumental band spinning intricately-orchestrated, quirky pop gems. Hogan is releasing his second solo album, entitled The Hut. Originally conceived, composed and recorded as Paul’s doctoral dissertation, The Hut is a song cycle performed by Hogan (who sings, plays piano and prepared piano) as well as guest musicians on violin, acoustic bass, electric guitar and percussion.

The Hut follows the odyssey of a young man as he searches for the ruins of the composing studio of a long-lost composer. The music combines the rhythmic propulsion of Indonesian gamelan, the microtonal timbres of John Cage’s prepared piano pieces, intricately composed rock drumming, and dreamy harmonies and catchy melodies reminiscent of Van Dyke Parks and George Gershwin. Paul is releasing the record as mp3 only and can be downloaded for free or donation at his website.

Lily Allen’s latest album has been remixed

Posted by Yvette Casillas On July - 30 - 2009

Lily Allen’s latest album, It’s Not Me, It’s You, has been remixed in its entirety by LA-producer Doctor Rosen Rosen and is finally available for free download today.

Doctor Rosen Rosen has reinvented all 12 songs using only Lily’s original vocals, replacing everything else with his own musical touch to create a completely different album!

Click here for Doctor Rosen Rosen’s entire album It’s Not Me, It’s Doctor Rosen Rosen.

Should you want to post the album, please use this link:

Why did the good Doctor do it? In his own words…

I saw Lily Allen for the first time in 2006 while on tour in Iceland. We didn’t actually meet face to face and I didn’t even catch her name; my introduction was seeing her video for “Smile” in a crappy hotel room. A few days later I was strolling around a gigantic Virgin Record store in London, when I saw a poster of her and the name… Lily Allen. I snagged her debut record and went home to New York a fan.

Heavy Young Heathens announce self titled debut

Posted by Yvette Casillas On July - 30 - 2009

Los Angeles based Heavy Young Heathens announce self titled debut on on September 1 and play a home town show at Silverlake Lounge on August 5 at 10pm!

“Who cares who the other bands are, just go see this band that’s finally back from a long US tour, so their chops will be up”

Future Sounds

“American Primal Scream vibe”

Future Sounds -Record of the Week

Listen to Sha La La La HERE!

Some Things You Should Know:

They are not foreign. They are not Vegan. They are not Blonde. They have not dated Winona Ryder like every other musician. They do not “Buzz”. They do not steal fur coats. They do not Blog….that much. They do not have iPhones. They do not get table service at clubs, or any other service for that matter. They do not know Madonna or A-Rod, but they do like “Snatch” (the movie). They have been to a house in Austin, TX. but not Austin’s house in TX. They have tried fasting, but the process was too slow. They have met the “Fifth Beatle.”

Who are Heavy Young Heathens?

Heavy Young Heathens, a duo made up of brothers Aron and Robert have been making music together in bands their whole lives. Feeling change in the air, they decided to do things a little bit off the beaten path they had become accustomed to, and they decided to record as a duo of just bass and drums. What at first felt odd to them quickly turned in to something that was more familiar then they could imagine.

The band was born right then and a few months later, a record was finished and a U.S tour was booked. Forced to forge the Do-it-Yourself path of record making, touring and merchandising the appeal and ethics of this group is infectious.

Heavy Young Heathens have had dream opportunities, seeing them supporting the likes of R.E.M. (personally invited the brothers to support In Austria), The Raveonettes & Autolux, Violent Femmes, Ben Kenney of Incubus/The Roots, and playing the main stage of Germany’s Rock-am-Ring/Rock-im-Park.

Over the last year, their following has been built strictly upon word of mouth and their ambitious Myspace activity. 2009 will see HYH release their debut full Length LP and put them back out on all the stages across the country. Upon hearing the first few cuts from HYH’s self-released EP. Heavy Young Heathens are sure to be one of the bands to watch in 2009 coming out of the great Southern California city.

Slash & Steven Adler – Restraining Orders Granted

Posted by Yvette Casillas On July - 29 - 2009

According to TMZ Slash and Steven Adler were both granted a restraining order yesterday against the same woman. Adler alleges Lisa Jill Martin-Cahn of Oregon has hired three private investigators since ‘08 to hunt him down. Claiming they were long lost lovers who met in rehab back in the early 90’s. Adler’s docs, filed in L.A. County, say cops who visited Cahn at her Oregon home last month found “unopened boxes of house ware items which Cahn stated [were] wedding presents for [her and Adler's] upcoming marriage.” Can we say psycho!

Slash got involved when Cahn decided to contacted him and his family members by phone and letter in desperate attempts to get in touch with Adler. Snailmail!? That’s so oldschool.

Cahn has to stay at least 500 yards away from the bandmates, their families, work, rehab facilities…you get the point.

VH1 Darling Diane Birch Visits The Guest Apartment

Posted by Yvette Casillas On July - 29 - 2009

Diane Birch performed live at The Guest Apartment and turned it into a dim speakeasy, a lounge brimming with velvet vocals and ethereal melodies. This is truly something you have to see for yourself. The daughter of a preacher man, Birch spent her childhood in Zimbabwe, exposed to choral hymns instead of shiny MTV videos. After moving to America and incorporating contemporary elements into her music, Birch has released her debut album, Bible Belt (buy the album HERE), and you bet she’ll make a believer out of you. And here’s the accompanying interview.

Watch her new music video “Nothing But A Miracle” and a great behind the scenes video.

Pitchfork

8.1 / 10 – “…it’s the sort of heart-to-heart populist record that’s every bit as sincere as it is infectious.”

Rolling Stone

4 Stars – “…a shiny bouquet of synth-pop roses, with perfumed Eighties keyboard whooshes and modern stutter beats crooking a finger toward the dance floor.”

Entertainment Weekly

B – “…youthful anxiety made irresistibly danceable.”

Filter

85% – “As the sole survivor from the transition to this long-player, “Sleepyhead” is the standard that’s hard to surpass. “The Reeling” certainly comes close, keeping an unlikely balance of many things, including a half-ecstatic Angelakos, a backing children’s chorus and a collection of Moog loops and beats. Though it’s a hard assembly to contain, the record, finally, runs wonderfully wild”

Paste

92% – : “What we need in these weary times—and what Passion Pit brings—is exuberance. Manners delivers the elusive feeling that everything will be alright. Or, just maybe, that everything already is.”
