SuperGlued has set out to prove that New Yorkers can have fun this summer for FREE!!!!

What Recession?!

The city is providing tons of opportunities for free music and SuperGlued is up for the challenge of seeing as many of these freebies as possible.

That’s right, you don’t need much money to have a good time this summer.

SuperGlued has thrown down the gauntlet to two music obsessed New Yorkers to take on the challenge of seeing 50 FREE shows in 50 days. That means a free show (no entrance fee) everyday for 50 days. Some of the best shows in New York this summer are free —

Blonde Redhead, Q-Tip, Pat Benetar, and Built to Spill.

They will post their recaps on SuperGlued.com – a new site where people can share and discuss shows with the other people who were there. Through stories, photos, videos and setlists, experiences from EVERY show can now be celebrated and preserved together.

With TWENTY shows down, these SuperGlued music fans have braved wet June weather, hurt feet and overenthusiastic crowd surfers to discover heaps of new artists, intimate venues and scenic outdoor settings.

The journey began on June 25th and ends August 13th. You can track their daily adventures by following them on the 50in50forfree blog, Twitter (@50in50forfree) and on their SuperGlued pages (Nick, Katharine)

Feel free to join them…and say hello if you see them at a show.

About Nick and Katharine

So far Nick’s stand out shows have been Terry Lynn, Janelle Monae, and F%*ked Up, all of whom were new to him. One of the more memorable moments was seeing Jay Reatard spit on the crowd and leave after a twenty minute set. So far, he’s really been into the Williamsburg Waterfront shows and the Bandshell at Prospect Park. But going to twenty shows straight does have its rough moments, as writing recaps nightly doesn’t work well when one gets a wee bit tipsy on the Forth of July.

Katherine found that even though she is usually a hater of crowdsurfing, she got all caught up by an enthusiastic fan who was all over the place at the Matt and Kim show at running around screaming “I’M GOING UP! IT’S A CONCERT!”. She also fell in love with the London at the Studio at Webster Hall gig and even got to meet them, becoming an insta-fan. The Afro-Punk Festival helped her discover Janelle Monae. Plus, she’s fallen in love with the Music On The Oval in Stuytown, where there’s been an ecelctic crowd at every show.
