Daytrotter : “It’s love of the real thing and love of the chaos, all of it welcome.”

Fuel TV, The Daily Habit

NYLON : “The So So Glos are a Brooklyn punk band that makes even the most basic three-chord song sound political.”

Relix : “They embrace the era when city streets were unsafe to walk alone at night in their sophomore album.”

Blurt : “…as quirky and heartfelt and tuneful as Jonathan Richman in his prime.”

Buzzine : “Really what propels the band most into the hearts of fans is the energy: if the music alone doesn’t get you, Levine’s blend of charm, candor, and enthusiasm is simply too strong a force to resist.”

FreeWilliansburg : “…shook the place to the rafters”

The So So Glos are not just another band from Brooklyn.

The So So Glos are four brothers- two blood, a step, and one inducted. All the same, if you use these terms around the band, they will tell you, “a brother is a brother is a brother”. They are part of Brooklyn, and its apparent upon meeting them that the blood of this city is pumping through their veins. Their music reflects not only the city that birthed them but also the strange, exciting and paralyzing times we live in. The Glos are bold, rough, artful and sincere all at the same time and whether they are singing a love song like “Love or Empire” or “Throw Your Hands Up DJ” (a 21st century anthem that evokes memories of Dylans “Only a Pawn in their Game”) they make us dance. When lead singer Alex Levine, (21 & the youngest of the brothers) incites an audience to dance, we do. We dance because because the urgency and energy of The So So Glos live is, if nothing else, a call for movement. Isn’t this the reason we listened to music in the first place?

The story began in Bay Ridge, a neighborhood of working families tucked in the South end of Brooklyn. After forming, the Band settled down in Bushwick founding the legendary all ages venue the Market Hotel, and started writing pop classics. Last summer, The So So Glos became the 1st act to release with Green Owl, an environmentally sustainable movement unto itself. After one show with …Trail of the Dead at the Bowery Ballroom they were invited on their first European tour: “We haven’t seen a live reaction like that since we took out the Strokes in 2001,” says (insert name) of TOTD. Recently the group released a Daytrotter session, after their shortplayer album Tourism / Terrorism made Robert Christgau’s best of 2009 list and have been named “Best Band in New York City” by (insert name). With much more touring and plans for a new album out in 2010, they have their eyes on you. You best not be the last to dance.
