One of my favorite Minneapolis band’s recapped history at the new Lincoln Hall this past weekend. After 3 albums with Epitaph Records MCS looks to 2010 with a new album & a new record company. Since this was the very first night of the weekend there wasn’t much bantering, but it was the longest set with 2 encores playing an extra 10 songs after the 14 of I Am The Movie.

“It’s been a while since we played some of these songs,” Justin said as the band took the stage. Over the course of the three nights, Justin’s face would occasionally be filled with a sense of concentration. Once a song was over he would say “I don’t know if you can tell, but I was really thinking during that last one.” Or “I was so concerned with playing the songs I was avoiding eye contact.” But let’s be real. It wouldn’t be Justin or I Am The Movie if he didn’t forget a line or two. Not that he had to be nervous by any means. Fan-club members sold out all three nights before tickets went on sale to the public and showed love from hello on Friday night to the bittersweet good-bye on Sunday night. We even made Matt laugh a bit during “Shiver” when we all helped sing backup with our “wooohooo wooohooo” and clapping on queue.

There was a sea of fans rushing the stage, mini mosh pits sprung up from odd corners of the room while the band played my favorites “Everything is Alright” and “Let’s Get Fucked Up and Die”.

Sunday’s Even If It Kills Me was full of stories, fun song facts, & playful taunting time with the crowd. I was very impressed with their performance of “The Conversation”. Matt switched to the piano while Justin sang alone. After a night filled with new songs, “Thanks for letting us play songs we’ve never played before,” Justin told the crowd.

It’s so weird that after 3 days of MCS all I can do is sing their songs in my head. I can’t wait to see them again when they tour for their new album My Dinosaur Life which comes out January 19th.
