Posted by Yvette Casillas On January - 30 - 2010

Local Natives Premiere Debut Video “Airplanes” – Playing Coachella, SXSW & US Spring Tour To Come – Debut LP Gorilla Manor Out February 16th On Frenchkiss Records

Pitchfork : “Camera Talk” Track Review: “spot-on harmonies, a sharp chorus hook, and swooping strings to add a pinch of romanticism”

NME : “Poetic songs, which billow, churn and explode into light.”

The Tripwire : “Their harmonic style is indicative of the influence of hazy beach bums of 60s SoCal

and Zombified Brit pop”

Daytrotter : “Local Natives create the kind of feeling – with a musicality so ambitious and daring, but immediately satisfying – that you can only attain if you’re head over heels with the very thought of maximizing all that’s in your heart and soul.”

Brooklyn Vegan (CMJ 2009 live review): “One of the most energetic and buzzed-about bands”

BBC Radio : “reminiscent of Grizzly Bear, Animal Collective and Spinto Band.”

RA RA RIOT FEB. 5 AT THE BAM HOWARD GILMAN OPERA HOUSE

Posted by Yvette Casillas On January - 30 - 2010

A RA RIOT – LIMITED NUMBER OF TICKETS STILL AVAILABLE FOR SOUNDS LIKE BROOKLYN FESTIVAL APPEARANCE – FEB. 5 AT THE BAM HOWARD GILMAN OPERA HOUSE

April 16 Coachella Appearance Confirmed
New Album Nearing Completion

A limited number of tickets are still available for Ra Ra Riot’s appearance at BAM’s Sounds Like Brooklyn Music Festival, which takes place Friday February 5 at the BAM Howard Gilman Opera House at 30 Lafayette Ave. in Brooklyn and features the Antlers as support.

The Sounds Like Brooklyn one-off is one of only two Ra Ra Riot shows scheduled for 2010 thus far, the second being April 17 at Coachella, where they will play alongside LCD Soundsystem, Them Crooked Vultures, Jay-Z and others on the Indio CA festival’s opening day.

Ra Ra Riot formed in 2006 at Syracuse University, self-releasing an eponymous EP and building a strong touring acumen in short order. The band’s rapidly building momentum ground to a sudden and tragic halt in June 2007 with unexpected death of drummer John Pike. Following a difficult summer of mourning, Ra Ra Riot regrouped and recorded its debut album The Rhumb Line, which was hailed upon its August 2008 release as “a blissful chamber-pop breakthrough” in a 4-star ROLLING STONE review and as evoking “Unforgettable Fire-era U2″ by ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY. The band is currently at work on the follow-up to The Rhumb Line, which they predict will be released later this year.

Citizen Dick premieres the NEW single from TWIN TIGERS

Posted by Yvette Casillas On January - 30 - 2010

::Download Twin Tigers- “Passive Idol” MP3::

Athens, Georgia. Home of the Twin Tigers and the local restaurant, Grit. Whereas this little establishment might look innocent it is here that guitarist and vocalist Matthew Rain and bassist Aimee Morris met, began dating and fell in love. In the dust of their previous band projects the Twin Tigers were born. Joined by drummer Doug Crump and guitarist Forrest Hall after a rash of previous bandmates the permanent equation was cemented. The band went onto release the Curious Faces Violent Future EP in February 2008.

The band quickly started building a solid fanbase throughout the southeast and played their very first SXSW. Their loud, chilling and excitable sound made them a perfect fit on bills paired with such bands as: Les Savy Fav, Deerhunter, Dead Confederate, Black Lips, Dungen, Woods and A Place to Bury Strangers.

Slumberland Records set to release Black Tambourine anthology

Posted by Yvette Casillas On January - 30 - 2010

MP3: “For Ex-Lovers Only”

Though they only released a handful of songs their two-year lifetime, Black Tambourine has been hugely influential in the world of indie music. Conceived of as an explicitly pop band at a time when such bands were pretty rare in America, Black Tambourine wore their influences on their sleeves: The Jesus & Mary Chain, of course, but also folks like Phil Spector, Smokey Robinson, Love, The Ramones, Shop Assistants, The Pastels, 14 Iced Bears, Orange Juice and the list goes on… The band’s dark, dreamy sound was consonant with the shoegaze sounds of the day, but the classic 60s-influenced songwriting gives their tunes a timeless appeal. Formed in 1989 as a side project by members of Whorl and Velocity Girl, they soon recruited their mate Pam Berry as vocalist and released their first song, quixotically an instrumental, on Slumberland’s very first release. Two singles followed, along with a pair of compilation contributions. Alas, other obligations became more pressing and the band called it a day in 1991.
