8th ANNUAL RECORD FAIR & OTHER DELIGHTS RETURNS TO WEST LOOP

CHIRP Record Fair returns to the scene with more musical rarities

CHICAGO (March 18, 2010) – The Chicago Independent Radio Project (CHIRP), announces its 8th Annual Record Fair & Other Delights to be held April 10-11, 2010 at The Chicago Journeymen Plumbers Union (1340 West Washington Boulevard). Mark your calendar for the only record fair in Chicago proper as CHIRP returns to the West Loop for the second consecutive year. We are excited once again to offer a gathering place for music and art enthusiasts to browse more than 80 tables of vinyl, CDs, posters, ‘zines, artwork, and crafts. Whether you are looking for records to play on that turntable you found in your parents’ basement or if you live in your parents’ basement surrounded by wall to wall vinyl; the CHIRP Record Fair & Other Delights offers a laid back and judgment free environment for novices and collectors alike. No High Fidelity treatment here!

CHIRP welcomes new dealers as well as returning favorites to this year’s fair. Dealers come from all over the country and range from genre specialists with rare records to generalists with something for everyone’s tastes. In addition to vinyl; 8-tracks, cassettes, DVDs and other forms of media will be available. An eclectic selection of arts and crafters, ‘zine writers and poster artists round out the vendor lineup. And because digging through crates can be hungry work, Chicago’s own Goose Island heads up a variety of food and alcohol vendors that will also be on hand to help to make this a fun event for everyone, vinyl collectors and casual browsers alike.

Special guest DJs and live bands will perform throughout the weekend. On Saturday, there will be DJ sets from Disappears, Mannequin Men and Alla, as well as live performances from Pretty Good Dance Moves and Maurice. Sunday, Deia Does Dylan will DJ, and The Loneliest Monk and Judson Claiborne will perform live.

The Chicago Independent Radio Project (CHIRP) launched a brand new music-, arts-, and culture-focused community radio station in January 2010 at CHIRPradio.org. The organization is also working to convince Congress and the FCC to remove existing barriers that prohibit granting of low power FM radio licenses in urban areas, including Chicago. CHIRP is a volunteer-driven, listener-supported effort and the Record Fair is now the organization’s largest annual event. Proceeds from the Record Fair support the station’s operational costs such as rent and streaming fees.

The CHIRP Record Fair & Other Delights runs Saturday, April 10th and Sunday, April 11th from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Admission is $7, or $5 with an ad or flyer. A special $25 pre-admission session from 8:00-10:00 a.m. on Saturday allows collectors early access to the dealers and offers unlimited access all weekend long. Chicago Journeyman Plumbers Union is located at 1340 W. Washington in Chicago. Free parking is available. Visit http://www.CHIRPrecordfair.com for more information.
