Treasure Fingers: I Could Have Danced All Night!

Treasure Fingers
Spy Bar – Chicago, IL
4/15/2010

Treasure Fingers Spy BarFor a guy that does not like to dance himself, the DJ known as Treasure Fingers sure brought plenty of his best disco-funk for a packed Chicago crowd to “shake it cross the dance floor” to!

This particular Thursday at Spy Bar was the opening night for Limelight and a new set of rules for a new party. The opening night festivities included great sets from resident DJs: True Villain and Midnight Conspiracy. Spy Bar proved they know how to throw a party when some of the best dressed are in attendance who were ready to have their minds blown from the killer sound system any audiophile would die for.

I walked down into the blue lit Spy Bar and did not know if I would be awake for all of Treasure Fingers’ set. Treasure Fingers took over the sound system sometime before 1:30 AM, and I could not tell you when he stopped playing. Even though he started well after my bedtime as soon as his hit “Cross The Dancefloor” hit, my eyes were closed and my head was spinning until the wee hours of the morning. I actually saw the sun rise downtown after the disco DJ’s set chewed me up and spit me out. Somehow I wound up with glitter all over, but I was reeling too much to ask many questions of the night’s events. Not only did he bring plenty of funky tracks for all of Spy Bar, but this DJ is so organic in his mixing I would rarely realize a new mix was spinning… I was still dancing to the previous one! Treasure Fingers can blend elements of songs fluidly together. Something as simple as a Donna Summer-style vocal can easily fuse through the next 10 or 15 minutes of the best modern day disco around.

Treasure Fingers Spy BarThe next time Treasure Fingers comes around, I will personally buy you a ticket if you don’t believe disco is back in a big way. Even the biggest stars like Madonna and Kylie Minogue are infusing elements of funk and disco in their newer albums. Treasure Fingers has been there, done that. They can take a brief lesson from Treasure Fingers’ hit “Cross the Dancefloor” if they have any questions.

Treasure Fingers Spy BarYou must check out Treasure Fingers’ “40 Minutes in the Champagne Room”, which will quickly become a staple of your music library when you’re feeling funky. It features big names like M.I.A., Daft Punk, Justin Timberlake and even some Rockwell “Somebody’s Watching Me” is thrown in there! This 40-minute mix is one of my favorites right now!
