Jo Dee Messina
Country Thunder 2010
Twin Lakes, WI
My first experience with Jo Dee Messina was in 1999 at Country Thunder and it wasn’t a good one. I had bought one of her shirts and went to go get it signed. I waited…and waited…I was the last person in line, and mind you I was in my teens at that point. She looked at me and told me she was done singing autographs even though I had been in line and was the LAST person in the tent. Can you see where I would be a little disappointed? To make things worse I didn’t even get to see her set because we were waiting in traffic for hours on that Thursday.
More of her performance and photos below…
Needless to say when I went back home that night I took the shirt and threw it in the back on my closet. I still have that shirt and how ironic I am now covering her at Country Thunder as Media. No matter how bitter I was about my experience the woman has a hardy set of vocal chords on her. She is still one of my favorite female vocalists.
She kicked off her set with “My Give a Damn is Busted.” Good choice because that one really got the crowd going. She’s run through “Bring on the Rain,” Janet Jackson’s “Black Cat,” and covered Journey’s “Don’t Stop Believing” along with some Kansas. She’s more than just country; she’s a rocker.
I am happy that I actually had the opportunity to see her set. It’s been a longtime coming.
Other songs in her set:
Heads Carolina, Tails California
