Artist Info: Lit formed in 1990 in Orange County, Calif. under the name Razzle. After changing their name, Lit began embracing a spunky brand of punk-pop that helped attract a local following. The group issued two recordings: an EP, Five Smokin’ Tracks from Lit; and the full-length Tripping the Light Fantastic, which became a college radio hit in the late ’90s.
Lit released the follow-up effort A Place in the Sun in 1999 which turned out to be the bands commercial breakthrough release. The album included hits such as “My Own Worst Enemy” which reached #1 on The Billboard Modern Rock Tracks charts and “Miserable” which peaked at #3 on the same chart. A Place in the Sun eventually reached platinum status. The band’s third studio, Atomic, was released in 2001 and a self-titled release hit in 2004.
Zebrahead, another influential Orange County-based band, was formed in 1996 and in 1998 released their first EP Yellow. The band quickly followed Yellow with their first major label release Waste of Mind that same year featuring hit track “Get Back” and in 2000 their sophomore effort Playmate of the Year hit and the band begun touring with the likes of Green Day, Goldfinger and 311, among others. Broadcast to the World was released in 2006 and two years later Phoenix emerged.
