Robyn’s Body Talk Part 2 is Surprisingly Amazing

Body Talk 2
Released: September 6, 2010
Konichiwa Records

Robyn is back following up her massive success of the 2007 release self-titled release and her summer 2010 release of Body Talk Part 1.  Her debut spawned several international hits including “With Every Heartbeat” and “Be Mine.” She released Body Talk Part I on June 14th and now Body Talk Part 2 September 6th on Amazon and iTunes.

Robyn’s Body Talk part 2 proved to be something I didn’t expect.  I was expecting pop songs.  What surprised me was the techno element in each song, and that techno aspect sets Robyn apart from other pop singers. At first I wasn’t sure that I liked it, but as the album went on, it grew on me and reminded me of the artist Cascada, except Robyn uses more of a techno beat than the dance club beat Cascada features.

The album opens with “In My Eyes” that prepares the listener for the rest of the album. The tracks that really stood out on the album were “Criminal Intent” and “U Should Know Better “featuring Snoop Dog. Body Talk 2 wraps up with the acoustic version of “Indestructible” that is quite different from the rest of the album, but that isn’t necessarily a bad thing. “Indestructible” is one of the only songs that contain no techno beat to back it up, but instead utilizes string instruments that accompany her quite well. She sings about how she has a habit of letting the wrong kind of men into her life and let the good men go; I’m going to love you like I’ve never been hurt before/I’m going to love you like I’m indestructible. The song really closed the album and was quite unexpected considering how the rest of the album was composed.

Overall, Body Talk 2 was enjoyable to listen to. The songs are versatile because there really isn’t a certain mood you have to be in to listen to them. You can get up and dance, or just sit and chill, either way, the album is worth it.
