September 11 – Venus Zine After Hours Presents Does It Offend You, Yeah?
The Brits are back and Venus Zine nabbed them for their monthly After Hours series at Beauty Bar. Does It Offend You, Yeah? play the Double Door on Saturday night with Kele (of Bloc Party fame and solo dance record excitement) and then head straight for our glittery turn tables. Their newest effort, Don’t Say We Didn’t Warn You is an extravaganza of dance punk and we can only imagine what jams they count among their influences – it should be a very interesting night at the sonic mercy of this quintet of rabble rousers.
September 18 – Best Coast DJ set
We love hosting bands when they come through the city. Our Besty Coastys will be at the Metro next Saturday with Male Bonding, Free Energy and Titus Andronicus but if you want to get besty with these Los Angelenos while they’re in town, Beauty Bar is where it’s at. Best Coast played the Empty Bottle in July and sound so much like summer it makes us feel all warm and fuzzy inside. Their debut LP, Crazy For You, out via the superb Mexican Summer, is half an hour of genuinely romantic sandy jams. Hazy, dreamy and full of maudlin and magical songs, this duo have multiple tricks up their sleeves to make us forget that we’re post-Labor Day.
