Can you believe CMJ is right around the corner again? Neither can we! Here are more artists and events to check out next week!
ROBBERS ON HIGH STREET (Brooklyn, NY)
Thurs, Oct 21st – Brooklyn, NY – Cameo Gallery (93 N. 6th St, Brooklyn, NY) – 11pm – GREEN ROOM MUSIC SOURCE Showcase
Sat, Oct 23rd – New York, NY – MOSCOT Gallery (118 Orchard St, NY, NY) – 4pm – FREE DAY PARTY
Jon Pareles of the NY TIMES recently stated, “There’s a lot of the Beatles, especially their piano-pumping side, in the songs of Robbers on High Street, updated with Elvis Costello’s gruffness and a matter-of-fact desperation.”
The Brooklyn outfit released the “ELECTRIC EYE” vinyl single this summer with b-side “Face The Fog” via Engine Room Recordings. The two tunes are pulled from a collection of songs comprising the band’s forthcoming third album, Hey There Golden Hair, possessing a new sound that harkens back to the brash, instantaneous pop appeal of their debut Tree City.
THE ART OF SHOOTING (Brooklyn, NY)
Tues, Oct 19th – New York, NY – Alphabet Lounge (104 Ave C, NY, NY) – 9:00pm (w/ Heavy Bird & Shayna Zaid)
The Big Takeover asserts, “The Art of Shooting teases the line between angst and placid, resulting in a form of tension acts like Sonic Youth revel in,” and Time Out NY attests, “Art-punk outfit The Art of Shooting plays spacey, shimmering rock songs accented by the elegant vocals of lead singer Kelly Irene Corson.”
After CMJ, Brooklyn’s THE ART OF SHOOTING hits the West Coast in November for the first time since the release of their debut full-length TRAVELING SHOW.

Not really CMJ, but hey… he’s in TOWN!

Atlanta’s David Berkeley is an evocative singer-songwriter with, “Emotional story-telling lyrics, charismatic stage presence, and hilarious anecdotes” (June Wulff, THE BOSTON GLOBE).
Dubbed “a musical poet” by the SAN FRANCISCO CHRONICLE, last year David Berkeley wrote the most haunting and powerful music of his life while living in a 35-person village in the mountains of Corsica. The resulting work is Berkeley’s 4th studio album, Some Kind of Cure, to be released in early 2011.
Berkeley has also written an accompanying book of short stories (one for each song), 140 Goats and a Guitar, the Stories behind Some Kind of Cure, to be released in conjunction with the album.
