Rian Dawson – Drums
Zack Merrick – Bassist
All Time Low is set to release their first major label debut, Dirty Work, on June 7th. Pre-orders of the album and their newest single “I Feel Like Dancin‘” are available now on iTunes and Amazon. So what better way to celebrate a new release than to hit the road with Yellowcard, Hey Monday, and The Summer Set?
With a very punk rock/pop sound to them, All Time Low has a very young fanbase and this was evident at the Rave in Milwaukee with the crowd being 60/40, mostly teenage girls. All the bands on the bill played great sets and had the crowd moving, dancing and the crowd suffering. I was very impressed with Hey Monday as an opener and Yellowcard provided a completed the solid lineup. Ryan Key, the lead singer for Yellowcard, even noted that this has been the best stop so far on the tour.
As the stage was being set for All Time Low, the crowd was about to explode. A few fans had to be pulled out from the mass from heat exhaustion. The lights dimmed and a large banner with All Time Low across it appeared, the stage lit up and the flashing lights began from several light towers. That is when the crowd erupted. They opened the set with “Time Bomb,” which seemed like a perfect song as the place just blew up.
The entire band seemed to be pros at interacting with their fans as they moved around from one end the stage to the other. Guitarist, Barakat was like a rabbit bouncing all over and had enough energy to ignite the stage. Bassist, Merrick provided a thick bass line to keep the ground shaking and the girls screaming with his good looks. Drummer, Dawson was the solid beat throughout the night. Several times, both Barakat and Merrick stood at the drum set to interact with Dawson. Alex Gaskarth was the reason for most of the screams. His voice and lyrics make a strong connection with fans going through young adulthood. At one point, he went to his knees to sing to the crowd. He moved across the stage so fans on either side could sing along with him. Mr. Gaskarth knows how to work a crowd.
They played “Damned If I Do Ya,” “Stella,” and “Jasey Rae,” but the biggest reaction of the night came when they played their new single, “I Feel Like Dancin’.”
While some may think of All Time Low as just music for young people, you can’t help but enjoy their live performance and how much energy and effort they put into each show. They played close to an 1 ½ hrs and ended with an encore of “Weightless” and “Maria.”
With a great lineup on this tour, it is definitely worth checking out All Time Low before this tour ends in May and they head overseas. For more information on the tour check out All Time Low’s official site, as well as their Facebook and MySpace pages.
