AOL MUSIC OFFERS “IDOL” FANS EXCLUSIVE LISTEN: WINNER SCOTTY McCREERY’S FIRST SINGLE

http://blog.music.aol.com/2011/05/26/scotty-mccreery-i-love-you-this-big-song

Last night, the American people voted for 17-year-old Garner, N.C. native Scotty McCreery as the next ‘American Idol.’ The 10th season finale of the Fox juggernaut wasn’t short on emotions with McCreery’s final performance of ‘I Love You This Big.’

Over the past weeks, McCreery has made a name for himself as quite the showman, pulling influence from arena star Garth Brooks. The singer first picked up a guitar at the age of 10 and often impersonated Elvis Presley.

His performance of ‘Gone’ by Montgomery Gentry showed off the Carolinian’s vocal range from Southern baritone to country-fried tenor. McCreery also hit all the right notes on his first single ‘I Love You This Big,’ a classic-sounding country tune, prompting Idol judge Jennifer Lopez to say McCreery was a “beautiful storyteller” and he facilitates the song with his heartfelt emotion.

Now McCreery is offering fans an exclusive first listen of his new single, ‘I Love You This Big,’ exclusively through AOL Music.

Sam Adams’ New Seasonal Beers: Rustic Saison & East-West Kölsch

On Sunday at the International Wine, Spirit, and Beer Event at McCormick Place, we caught up with the Boston Beer Company aka,  Samuel Adams, to see what was new in their line of beer.  They have two new tasty beverages at consumer’s disposal for the summer.  First is the Rustic Saison and them East-West Kölsch.

The Rustic Saison is their classic Belgian Farmhouse Ale brewed with Sam Adams’ distinctive yeast.  It’s not a dark beer by any means.  It even has a bit of a sweet taste to it. This beer is sold in the Summer Styles Variety Pack and as a draft in select areas. This is definitely the better of the two seasonal beers this summer.

Here is the lowdown on the Rustic Saison:
Calories: 142.9
Alcohol: 4.35% ABV
First Brewed: 2011
Availability: April through July in the Summer Styles Variety Pack
Best Paired with: soft cream cheese like Camembert or Brie

The second is East-West Kölsch.  This beer is brewed with the night blooming Jasmine Sambac from South East Asia and Alsatian Hops.  Here is another light beer from Sam Adams.  This brew has more lemony and citris taste versus the sweeter flavor of the Rustic Saison.

The East-West Kölsch lowdown:
Calories: 146.7
Alcohol: 5.01% ABV
First Brewed: 2011
Availability: April through July in the Summer Styles Variety Pack
Best Paired with: trout cooked with lemon and herbs

Party Star Jel Shots – Not your average Jello Shot!

Party Star Jel Shots

Party Star Shots are here to change the game in Jello Shots. Just peel, squeeze & enjoy! These specialty shots come in 7 flavors, contain 7% alcohol and get this, they’re vegetarian! Well kinda…..they are made with no animal bi-products. Which also means they don’t need to be kept chilled. Although I would advise you do keep them chilled. As tasty as these spiked Jel Shots are, a warm shot of liquor is never good for anybody, even if it is pre-prepped for you. Try Party Star’s Alcohol-Spiked Jel Shots in Blueberry, Grape, Green Apple, Lemon-Lime, Orange, Strawberry, & Cherry.

Farbrew’s Beer Pick: Marzen from the Heavy Seas Brewing Company

Marzen
Heavy Seas Brewing Company

This is a classic Marzen style lager also from the Heavy Seas Brewery. It has a very rich flavor, maybe a little too rich for my liking but definitely a beer I would drink again. Apparently, the name of the beer is a play on words since in Baltimore; everyone is “hon!” Are You Hon Enough!?

Also, on a side note…please feel free to comment on each beer, let me if you have tried it and what you think, etc. Would love feedback from anyone and everyone!

Pyro Fighter!

Pyro Fighter
Self-Titled
Self-Released
pyrofighterband.com

Dany Mellette owes much to Lady Gaga, but she missed out on the element that makes Gaga go-go. Gaga imbues her work with sense of irony that keeps it mildly interesting – mostly just really danceable.

Pyro Fighter has released an EP of Electro-Pop that came out of the chute enjoying success on such notable shows as “Jersey Shore” and MTV’S “Once Upon a Prom.” Both of these vehicles are perfect for this redundant rhythmic rehash of itself.

“Pyro Fighter” is exactly what one would expect – and this is not a bad thing – for the “Jersey Shore” crowd. These are not people who are going to win too many Mensa memberships – but they will surely look awesome shaking their groove thing at the local club. (That is surely a natural tan…)

If there is a perfect electro-pop disc – this is it. The songs vary enough to be able to differentiate one from the other.    Patrick Stockhausen and Billy Arnett have programmed tight beats and layered them with interesting crescendos and decrescendos – a staple from their obvious music training.

Therein lies the closest thing to irony on display here. If Stockhausen and Arnett are not musically – formally – trained, they are the first true naturals I have ever heard of. I am sure it was a music degree with a computer minor (or the reverse.)

From the ivory tower, my musical snobbery is gnawing at the base of my neck begging for things like guitars solos and lyrics. Problem is my feet won’t stop tapping.

Josh Groban Receives Glowing Reviews for Current “Straight To You” Tour

“The Concert Felt Like a House Party in a Really Big, Well-Lit House” – New Orleans Times Picayune; “Straight To You” Continues Through November in North America

BURBANK, CA–(Marketwire – May 24, 2011) – On May 12th, Josh Groban launched the North American leg of his 2011 “Straight To You” World Tour and is receiving some of the best reviews of his career. With a set designed by the award-winning British multi-media creative and digital agency Knifedge, which has pioneered the use of projection with live theater events, the tour gives fans the feeling of an intimate theater setting through stage design, lighting, and projection, as well as through the spontaneity and interactivity Groban delighted his fans with during last year’s “Before We Begin” shows. Groban is not only performing an ever-changing set-list of fan favorites from his best-selling albums and his recent platinum-seller Illuminations, he is also taking questions from the audience via text, which concert-goers are given instructions on how to send before and during each show.

Read what the critics have had to say so far about “Straight To You”….

“Groban’s genuine boy-next-door demeanor in the midst of violins, french horns, percussion, cello, piano, guitars, bass and drums makes him and his music all the more endearing. He appears truly comfortable performing, like it’s his second home.” - The Dallas Morning News

“Listening to Groban’s commanding tenor navigate ‘Oceano’ and ‘Alla Luce,’ for example, was to us the same as admiring a painting at the Museum of Fine Arts — it wasn’t necessary to understand the lyrics to understand the song. … Sometimes beauty, in and of itself, can be both motive and reward. And regardless of the context you’re coming from, it can be pretty inspirational, too.” - Houston Press

“Groban has boyish charm that belies his big voice. If you want to dismiss him as popera, be my guest; but do take a moment to listen to his voice sometime, just for its qualities and tone, and tell me it doesn’t draw you in.” -Dallas Voice

“Impeccable vocals, wit, make Groban concert memorable. Groban proved to be quite the showman, but his vocals truly made the show memorable. He managed to belt powerful and enunciated lyrics, then quickly switch to a soothing falsetto. Few performers have the ability to perform that way live without a hitch.” - Wichita Eagle

“That had been one of the purposes of the stage set created for his ‘Straight To You’ tour — to allow for more interaction between Groban and his fans, whether it be answering questions audience members could text in before the show or getting down among the adoring. But it’s simply the case of a talented artist putting his instrument to its best and most effective use. And Groban sings with such obvious emotion and sincerity — not to mention skill — that it’s difficult not to be won over.” - Tulsa World

As a nod to his devoted student fans of all ages, Groban is offering tickets for $25 to anyone who presents a valid student i.d. at the venue’s box office. Tickets for all shows are on sale now. All remaining dates are listed below. For more information, please visithttp://www.joshgroban.com/tour.

THE PRODIGY: World’s On Fire – CD/DVD & CD/Blu-Ray Out Now!

Live from their Warrior’s Dance Festival
Milton Keynes Bowl, July 2010

The Prodigy’s first ever live album and film, World’s On Fire is now available on CD/DVD and CD/BLU-RAY through Take Me To The Hospital/Cooking Vinyl Ltd/The End Records.

Portraying The Progigy’s biggest show to date from their sold out Warrior’s Dance Festival at the Milton Keynes Bowl, the CD/DVD includes their biggest tunes - Omen, Firestarter, Breathe, Warrior’s Dance, Smack My Bitch Up and more – and will now be available in full to watch in the comfort of your own place. Just make sure you turn it up & annoy the neighbors!

“A lot of thought went into the place where we could throw the best party, we never wanted the typical stadium venue so Milton Keynes Bowl was perfect for our first ever UK Warrior’s Dance Festival coz it felt like a mad party in a field. The night was massive for us. It was important to us to bring a proper festival day and night for the people to remember and bring the same intense atmosphere like when we play Brixton Academy…. and it was. Standing on that stage was a truly triumphant feeling for us as the whole place kicked off, we looked out and we were fukin proud……

We never intended to do a live DVD, but when we saw the footage we knew it had to be done…and born out of that we realised we had a great live album too!”  Liam, Keef & Maxim….(The Prodigy)

With the audio for the DVD & Blu Ray versions having been engineered by Liam Howlett himself in 5.1 surround sound it’s a chance to re-live that feeling of standing in the crowd all over again or witnessing their blistering performance for the first time.

The release will be a chance for fans to see brand new and re-worked footage of the band including films taken on the road during their ‘Invaders Must Die’ world tour – see the boys in Brazil, Japan, America and of course select performances taken from their explosive tours in the UK and Europe.

There are also exclusive gallery photos to explore and some hidden extras which you’ll have to navigate an interactive menu to find!

Directed by award winning director Paul Dugdale, the MKB footage was devised with heavy input and direction from the band throughout.

THE SECOND ANNUAL
CARNIVAL OF MADNESS”
TOUR HITS THE ROAD THIS AUGUST
Annual Summer Tour to Feature Platinum Artist Theory of a Deadman,
Alter Bridge, Black Stone Cherry, Adelitas Way and newcomer Emphatic

Let the madness begin!  After its wildly successful inaugural run, the highly anticipated Carnival of Madness Tour returns this summer!  Joining the Carnival will be Theory of a Deadman, Alter Bridge, Black Stone Cherry, Adelitas Way and Emphatic.

Fueled by Monster Energy Drink, the Carnival of Madness Tour will tear through North America for 25+ dates set to launch August 13 in Twin Lakes, WI.

VIP ticket pre-sales for the first 15 events will be available for those belonging to Theory of a Deadman’s Deadfan Club beginning Tuesday, May 31, followed by those signed up for the Carnival of Madness mailing list at www.carnivalofmadness.com, beginning Wednesday, June 1.   VIP bundles with exclusive merchandise, content, and an enhanced Carnival experience will be available for purchase through Artist Arena.

The public on-sale for the first round of shows will be Friday, June 3.  All of the ticket on-sale info can be found at www.carnivalofmadness.com.  The “Carnival” ticket price acknowledges the current state of the economy offering an “affordable” ticket that will be in the $25 – $35 range.

Bill McGathy, the owner of the Carnival of Madness brand proclaims, “After the incredible energy generated in the inaugural event last year, the 2011 edition combines a fantastic Rock package with a ticket price that is actually affordable in these economically challenged times”.

“Theory of a Deadman is totally stoked to be doing the Carnival of Madness Tour this year,” says singer/guitarist Tyler Connolly.  “It’s great to be joined by Alter Bridge, Black Stone Cherry, Adelitas Way and newcomers Emphatic – who all have songs rocking at radio and awesome live shows.  It’s gonna be a fuckin’ great show from beginning to end and definitely something you don’t wanna miss!  See you there!!!”

Continues Alter Bridge singer/guitarist Myles Kennedy:  “Alter Bridge is pleased to be taking part of the Carnival of Madness Tour later this summer with Theory Of A Deadman, Black Stone Cherry, Adelitas Way and Emphatic.  It will be great to be back in the U.S. playing on our home turf with these bands.  If you dig straight up, no frills Rock…then this tour is for you.  Hope to see everyone there!”

One of Vancouver’s greatest exports, Theory of a Deadman, is returning to give rock music a much needed reality check with their fourth studio release, THE TRUTH IS… The album is slated for release on July 12 via Roadrunner/604 Records and the first single, “Lowlife,” is already storming its way up the rock charts.  THE TRUTH IS…, the follow up to the band’s previous Platinum-selling SCARS AND SOUVENIRS, was produced by Howard Benson (My Chemical Romance, 3 Doors Down).  The band recently wrapped playing the inaugural Avalanche tour alongside Stone Sour, Skillet, Halestorm and Art of Dying, and will be playing select festivals before heading out on the Carnival of Madness Tour.  Theory of a Deadman is Tyler Connolly (vocals, guitar), David Brenner (guitar), Dean Back (bass) and Joey Dandeneau (drums).

Alter Bridge has been making their mark on the rock world for years through their three studio releases and non-stop touring.  The band is currently haunting the Top 20 of the Rock charts with their latest single, “Ghost of Days Gone By.”  The single, the follow-up their #1 rock smash “Isolation,” is from their Alter Bridge Recordings via EMI Label Services release ABIII, which debuted at #17 on Billboard’s “Top 200 Albums” chart when it was released last November. In preparation for the Carnival of Madness Tour, the band just wrapped up a successful headline run with Black Stone Cherry and Like a Storm.  Alter Bridge has also made successful national TV appearances on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno and Jimmy Kimmel Live in support of ABIII.  Alter Bridge is Myles Kennedy (vocals, guitar), Mark Tremonti (guitar, vocals), Brian Marshall (bass) and Scott Phillips (drums).

Kentucky’s Black Stone Cherry–vocalist Chris Robertson, guitarist Ben Wells, bassist Jon Lawhon and drummer John Fred Young–is a band adept at creating both timeless rock ‘n roll and new, innovative sounds.  The band have recently released their third album for Roadrunner Records, BETWEEN THE DEVIL & THE DEEP BLUE SEA, which is the summation of a year in the life of the band—every emotion, triumph, loss, romance and everything in between—it’s all here on this album.  The first single, “White Trash Millionaire,” is currently approaching sitting at #15 on the Active Rock charts and climbing.

Las Vegas-based rockers Adelitas Way will release their sophomore album, HOME SCHOOL VALEDICTORIAN, June 7 on Virgin Records.  The album, produced by Dave Bassett (Shinedown), showcases the band’s lyrical and musical growth. The band has spent the past couple of years on the road and is excited to be part of this year’s Carnival.

Hard rock band Emphatic will release DAMAGE, their Atlantic Records debut, on July 12.  Led by vocalist Patrick Wilson and lead guitarist Justin McCain, Emphatic has spent years honing their edge on the road, headlining clubs and theaters along with supporting such like-minded artists as Stone Temple Pilots, Buckcherry, and Papa Roach.  DAMAGE, produced by Howard Benson (Daughtry, My Chemical Romance, Flyleaf), features the song “Bounce,” which is currently climbing the Active Rock charts.

The Carnival of Madness Tour made its inaugural launch in 2010 with Shinedown, Sevendust, Chevelle, Puddle Of Mudd and 10 Years, which proved to be one of the biggest Rock shows of the summer as a Top 50 tour.

Don’t run from a sure vocal bet

Company Of Thieves
Running from A Gamble
Released: 5/17/11
Wind-up Records

Company of Thieves

Company of Thieves lead singer Genevieve Schatz has pipes, and she is not afraid to use them on the bands new album Running From a Gamble. From beginning to end, this is the Genevieve show. I’m alright with that considering she is a force to be reckoned with. Her vocal tones are a pleasant break from the norm, with shining glimmers of PJ Harvey and the spunk of Juliette Lewis. The third track “Modern Waste” showcases her vocal abilities, and the track “Look Both Ways” is a great example of the bands lyrical reach. My only critique is sadly an important note..the band. They certainly all play their instruments fine, but at times it felt like bland chicken broth. My ears kept waiting for anything quirky to happen. I yearned for any electronic sounds, at all. I love the bands story, and after reading it, it’s clear that they could give a shit less if they sound rock, or electronica, or even make anyone happy, as long as they get some treats for a gig and express themselves they will be content. This gives them five more points in my book. From a musical ear I personally just think Genevieve’s voice would go to the next level backed by synths and strong bass lines. As the album stands it is a solid rock album that plays well on a Sunday on your balcony with a glass of red and an overcast sky or in any atmosphere if you like easy building rock albums.

Pitbull at Fantabuloso Dos

Pitbull
Fantabuloso Dos
Allstate Arena – Rosemont, IL
4/18/2011

After much hype being built up all night for his performance; Pitbull was finally on stage. He was donning his signature business look. He made dancing in a suit look damn easy. He meant business, he covered many hits from his career although only playing a 30 minute set. Some of his songs included ” Shut It Down”, “Move Shake Drop”, “On the Floor”, and “I Like it”. Although the latter are duets, his seamless performance left nothing to miss. Pitbull is one of those performers that are worth the wait. Although his performance only being 30 minutes left us wanting more.

definitely gave us a show.

Even after 4 hours of back to back excitement the crowd was not fatigued when T-Pain arrived. As soon as the lights went on, he broke into his intro which led straight into “Buy U a Drank”. A seasoned professional; T-Pain definitely knows how to perform on stage. He performed an array of songs from “Drop It Down Low”, to his popular  “Apple Bottom Jeans”, “Make it Rain.” Accompanied by a couple of dancers, T-Pain was all over the stage. He was on one side of the stage and onto the other within seconds. His performances are fun and comical. He knows that when he’s having a good time so are we.

One of the more anticipated acts was Mike. He has gained a fast following, with his good looks and smooth lyrics. He had all the girls’ attention. His hit “Please Don’t Go” was his opener. He stopped at one point during the song creating suspense before breaking back into the chorus. “Bow Chicka Wow Wow” also had everyone smoothly dancing along. He performed his own rendition of Adele’s “Rolling in the Deep”; nothing compared to the original. His true shining moment came when he came out wearing a bulls Jersey while singing “Cooler Than Me”. He jumped off stage into the audience , which drove fans crazy. He lost his jersey, revealing some skin, on the way back on stage. He definitely gave us a show.

The French producer/ DJ, who got his start playing in clubs in the 80′s and 90′s, claimed to have come straight from the airport and onto the stage. As a very sought after producer, he has worked with many of today’s hottest acts from The Black Eyed Peas to Madonna. He performed his electro hits “Club Can’t Handle Me”, “When Love Takes Over”, and “Sexy Bitch.”

Again, another too short performance from fellow Chicagoan Lupe Fiasco. His newly released album Lasers debuted at number one on the US Billboard 200. His performance was brief starting off with a short version of “Words I never Said”. It transitioned into ” I don’t wanna care right now” during which he splashed a full water bottle onto his fans. He also played a short version of “Out of my Head” which merged into “Kick Push” his first single from his debut album. His fun performance was closed by another hit, “Superstar.”

Taio Cruz was part of the massive bill at 103.5 KISS FM’s Fantabuloso Dos.  More British talent on the stage; Taio Cruz has defintely made a name for himself in the U.S. All with 2 albums, and his forthcoming album  Black and Leather on it’s way. He was very well recieved as he performed his top hits “Break Your Heart”, “Higher”, “Dirty Picture”, and “Dynamite.” Taio has a coolness to him that drove all the ladies crazy.

Pit Bull

Pitbull

Fans had been talking about it for weeks and the Radio station, 103.5 Kiss Fm, who hosted their Fantabuloso Dos had been heavily promoting it. With their first success with Fantabulso in 2010, they came back with an even more promising line-up consisting of Jessie j, Taio Cruz, Lupe Fiasco, T. Pain, Pitbull and many more!

We were promised 9 artists within 5 hours and they definitely delivered; most sets were short and pumped on steroids, even merging 3 songs into one! Not to complain, it was definitely a house full of talent.

Jessie J

Jessie J

Artist: Jessie J (click here for more photos)
The first to kick of the performance was London Born Jessie J. With her sleek long black bob, leopard print bodysuit, and tall black stilettos; Jessie was pure sex onstage. Not only did she look great onstage, but she has a voice that can rival any pop diva these days. She makes going up and down octaves seem easy. With an effortlessly cool performance that showcased her voice; Jessie J. was a great indication of the night to come.

Artist: Tinie Tempah
More talent from London was showcased as the South London raised rapper Tinie Tempah joined the stage. He has had a successful start in the UK winning many British awards for his music. His performance was short but energetic. He was basically in and off the stage before we could even understand what he had said.

Far East Movement

Far East Movement

Artist: Far East Movement (Click for more photos)
After hearing their massive hit “Like a G6″, which was performed that night, I was definitely excited to see Far East Movement live. The Asian- American electro hop quartet provide dance music for this generation’s teens who are symbolized by their fresh kicks, jeans and hoodies. Their performance was as dynamic as their music and videos.

He performed his electro hits “Club Can’t Handle Me”, “When Love Takes Over”, and “Sexy Bitch.”

Mike Posner

Mike Posner

Artist: Mike Posner (Click here for more photos)

T-Pain

T-Pain

Artist: T. Pain (Click here for more photos)
Even after 4 hours of back to back excitement the crowd was not fatigued when T. Pain arrived. As soon as the lights went on, he broke into his intro which led straight into “Buy U a Drank”. A seasoned professional; T. Pain definitely knows how to perform on stage. He performed an array of songs from “Drop It Down Low”, to his popular ” Apple Bottom Jeans”, “Make it Rain.” Accompanied by a couple of dancers, T. Pain was all over the stage. He was on one side of the stage and onto the other within seconds. His performances are fun and comical. He knows that when he’s having a good time so are we.

Artist: Pitbull (Click here for more photos)
After much hype being built up all night for his performance; Pitbull was finally on stage. He was donning his signature business look. He made dancing in a suit look damn easy. He meant business, he covered many hits from his career although only playing a 30 minute set. Some of his songs included ” Shut It Down”, “Move Shake Drop”, “On the Floor”, and “I Like it”. Although the latter are duets, his seamless performance left nothing to miss. Pitbull is one of those performers that are worth the wait. Although his performance only being 30 minutes left us wanting more.

With a successful lineup this year and an obvious success the last, 103.5 Kiss Fm’s Fantabuloso must come back next year. It’s definitely and event that is sure to keep on growing.

Beauty Bar News & Events

Friday, May 27 – Beauty Bar, Ruby Hornet & Ground Lift Media present ‘Digital Freshness: The Official Mayer Hawthorne After-Party’ featuring Mayer Hawthorne (DJ set), Rude One, VIPJ (10pm; $5)

Michigan-born hip-hop fan Drew Cohen and his sweet soul singer alter ego Mayer Hawthorne swing by after opening up a little show up at the Aragon Ballroom featuring Bruno Mars & Janelle Monae – maybe you’ve heard of em. Hawthorne fits the bill uptown perfectly and if the tracks off his new EP, Impressions, available now from Stones Throw are any indication, the man has diverse, and impeccable taste. Putting his own spin on classic tunes by ELO and the Isley Brothers as well as selections by Chromeo and Jon Brion on the new EP, Hawthorne continues to come across slick and meticulous, reveling in the elegant sounds of early Seventies tracks by Curtis Mayfield and Isaac Hayes while working in decidedly modern touches. Hawthorne and Co., roll through the after party tonight and will be sharing tuneage duties with Rude One and VIPJ.

Monday, May 30 – Love Inks and Lion Limb (7pm; free)

You love her but she loves him and he loves somebody else. Austin, TX’s Love Inks knows all about amore and on the ten tracks of minimalist, bare-bones pop on their debut LP E.S.P., they tackle romance and love through dreamy hooks and torch-burning haze…yeah yeah. Locals Lion Limb are no slouches in the heart-felt department either – dark and ominous and called by various outlets around the city, “good good good,” “awesome,” and “infectious,” they should do a-ok in setting the mood for this early free Monday show.

SKYSAW MAKES CHICAGO DEBUT AT METRO JUNE 25

SKYSAW MAKES CHICAGO DEBUT AT METRO JUNE 25

Metro is pleased to host the Chicago debut of the new band Skysaw on Saturday, June 25. Tickets go on sale this Saturday May 21 at noon at the Metro Box Office and online at metrochicago.com.

Skysaw is the new project of acclaimed drummer Jimmy Chamberlin, DC-based singer Mike Reina and guitarist Anthony Pirog, Reina and Pirog were writing cohorts in the much-loved Fairfax, VA-based group, The Jackfields, whose Pink Floyd-meets-Beach Boys psychedelia was widely lauded. Jimmy Chamberlin is known to music fans around the world as the virtuoso behind the drum kit with such venerated acts as Smashing Pumpkins, Zwan and The Jimmy Chamberlin Complex.

After forming in 2009, the band set out to create brilliant, tuneful and whip-smart pop music that can loosely be described with words like “progressive” and “symphonic,” while at the same time deserving their own category. Their debut album, Great Civilizations, will be released June 21 on Dangerbird Records.

What people are saying about Skysaw:
“A collection of prog-leaning, psychedelic jams with flourishes of acoustic guitars, keyboards, piano, and more.” – Spin April 2011

“Tightly constructed chunk of melodic rock music. It’s tuneful and intricate, yet doesn’t trip over into proggy hysteria.” – Buzz Bands LA March 2011

Hi-res photos, digital downloads and interview access is available for members of the media on assignment. For more information on this event please contact Jenny Lizak at 773-549-4140 ext 212 or jenny@metrochicago.com.

Farbrew’s Beer Pick: Gold Ale

Gold Ale
Heavy Seas Brewing Company

Here is another beer that came in my first package from my beer club. This beer is from the other featured brewery called Heavy Seas Brewing Company out of Baltimore, MD. This beer won the 2010 World Beer Cup Bronze medal. This beer is described as a “deep gold in color with floral and spicy hop aromas.” I really enjoyed this beer and ended up drinking the entire thing. It was right up my alley and a beer that I would drink again. Worth checking out!

Dale Earhardt Jr. Jr. – It’s A Corporate World

Dale Earnhardt Jr. Jr.
It’s a Corporate World
Release Date June 7, 2011
Quite Scientific Records

The Detriot indie-pop outfit known playfully as Dale Earnhardt Jr. Jr. releases their first full length album June 7th, and it’s quite the musical treat. I was first won over by the duo’s vocal stylings after hearing their cover of The Beach Boys “God Only Knows” on an Daytrotter session last summer. The latest album includes previous tracks from their Horse Power EP, including “Nothing But Our Love”, “Simple Girl” and “Vocal Cords”. The first single, “Morning Thought” follows from the same vibe as the previous tracks with swooning harmonies against a backdrop of dings and blips. I predict hand claps and sing alongs at future concerts.

Dale Earnhardt Jr. Jr. – Morning Thought by Dale Earnhardt Jr. Jr.

If you twisted my arm for a weak spot, the track “When I Open My Eyes” begins with a down tempo beat that rings into keys and a crescendo yelps, which strays from the floaty vocals I love from Josh Epstein and Daniel Zott. Sounds more like spoken word against Groove Armada. Not to worry the rest of the album is solid. The title track, “It’s A Corporate World” rings a bit like an anthem for suits trudging to work. “We Almost Lost Detroit” presents a more rollicking pop rock tune and strong guitar riffs than the rest of the tracks on It’s A Corporate World.

On the whole, It’s A Corporate World presents the lulling musicality that fans of Dale Earnhart Jr. Jr. fell in love with on the Horse Power EP. Here’s to indie rock stardom! Get ready for your close ups Josh and Dan.

Track list
Morning Thought
Nothing But Our Love
Skeletons
An Ugly Person On A Movie Screen
When I Open My Eyes

Video: The Touch’s “Shot”

The Australian version of OK Go! is the indie pop rock band, The Touch. The first time I saw the video for “Shot” I laughed because I am pretty sure it wasn’t vocalist Josh Moore’s idea for this video. Poor guy! He did pretty good job at holding a straight face until the end of the video!

Noted on their YouTube account about this video: “Filmed in a derelict building in 98 seconds, total cost $30.”

Rockstar Energy Drink UPROAR Festival Set For August 26-October 15 Featuring Triumphant Return Of Avenged Sevenfold, Along With Three Days Grace, Seether, Bullet For My Valentine & More

ROCKSTAR ENERGY DRINK UPROAR FESTIVAL
NORTH AMERICAN TREK SET FOR AUGUST 26-OCTOBER 15

FEATURING THE TRIUMPHANT RETURN OF AVENGED SEVENFOLD, ALONG WITH
THREE DAYS GRACE, SEETHER, BULLET FOR MY VALENTINE, ESCAPE THE FATE, SEVENDUST,
BLACK TIDE, ART OF DYING AND THE BLACK CLOUD COLLECTIVE

The annual Rockstar Energy Drink UPROAR Festival returns August 26 through October 15 to conquer North America with a massive active rock lineup. Leading the charge is multi-platinum headliner Avenged Sevenfold, making their triumphant return after co-headlining the 2010 debut Rockstar Energy Drink UPROAR Festival.

Three Days Grace, Seether and Bullet For My Valentine, along with Escape The Fate will also be featured on this year’s main stage. The touring music and lifestyle festival–which Revolver called “one of the most electric tours of the year” in 2010–also includes the Best Buy Music Gear Stage headliners Sevendust, as well as Black Tide, Art Of Dying and The Black Cloud Collective.

“When we started hearing from our fans they wanted to see us back on UPROAR this year, we thought, last year was a blast so let’s do it again. The fans are crazy and the bands kick ass,” says Avenged Sevenfold‘s frontman M. Shadows. “We’re spending the first half of summer playing some big European festivals so we’re going to be ready to get back home and play America’s top rock festival.”

“We’re thrilled to have Avenged Sevenfold back as headliners,” adds tour producers John Reese and John Oakes. “Their epic stage show helped elevate UPROAR 2010 far beyond the standard outdoor festival. The fans wanted more, and we listened.”

The Rockstar Energy Drink UPROAR Festival will entertain fans with a full afternoon and evening of great rock bands and will also include a concourse midway featuring band autograph signings, vendors and other activities. The festival is being produced by John Reese, John Oakes and CAA in conjunction with Live Nation. Look for tour dates, cities and venues to be announced in the coming weeks and go to www.RockstarUproar.com and www.LiveNation.com for the most up-to-date information on the tour.

The Rockstar Energy Drink UPROAR Festival is proud to continue their alliance with Child Find of America, a national not-for-profit organization dedicated to the prevention and resolution of child abduction. In addition, the Rockstar Energy Drink UPROAR Festival has joined forces with the Road 2 Recovery Foundation, a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing AMA licensed professional motocross and supercross riders with financial assistance if they sustain career-ending injuries. The organization also provides motivational, emotional and spiritual support to these individuals and their families.

About The Bands

Avenged Sevenfold’s fifth album, Nightmare, debuted at Number One on the Billboard Top 200 Chart.  The album has spawned two Number One hits on the Mediabase Active Rock Chart with the songs “Nightmare,” which was the most played current song at the format in 2010, and “Welcome to the Family.”  Their current single, “So Far Away,” is following in the footsteps of its predecessors and is quickly climbing the Active Rock and Modern Rock Charts.   Avenged Sevenfold achieved worldwide success with their platinum 2005 breakthrough  City Of Evil, which featured the wildly popular single “Bat Country.” They are the only band to have headlined the Vans Warped Tour and Ozzfest while simultaneously hitting #1 on MTV’s TRL.  In 2006, they won the fan-voted award for Best New Artist for “Bat Country” at the MTV Video Music Awards.  The following year, their self-titled album Avenged Sevenfold sold over a million copies around the world.  Thanks to their spectacular live shows as well as their rabid fan base, the band has become one of the biggest American hard rock bands and continue to sell out arenas worldwide.  This year alone, Avenged Sevenfold will play to more than a million people. Over the course of their career Avenged Sevenfold has built a fanatical fan base resulting in over millions of albums sold worldwide, amassed more than 6.8 million fans on Facebook, and attracted 102 million plays on YouTube.

This past year, Three Days Grace brought their live act to fans with three successful North American tours promoting their latest album Life Starts Now, which debuted at #3 on the Billboard Top 200 chart.  The album spawned three #1 Active Rock songs including “The Good Life,” “World So Cold” and the #1 Song of the Year at Active Rock, “Break.” Overall, Life Starts Now spent the year dominating the Modern, Heritage and Alternative rock radio-airplay charts across industry radio-monitoring services, BDS and Mediabase. Their latest single, “Lost In You,” follows suit and is currently climbing up the charts on Mediabase and BDS.

Seether’s fourth album, Holding Onto Strings Better Left To Fray, out May 17 on Wind-Up Records, was produced by the legendary Brendan O’Brien (Pearl Jam, Stone Temple Pilots, Rage Against The Machine).  The offering features the #1 rock single “Country Song,” and showcases songwriter and frontman Shaun Morgan’s ability to successfully meld raw emotional lyrics with intensely melodic elements of heavy metal, post-grunge and alternative rock.  The tongue-in-cheek companion video for “Country Song” can be seen here: www.mtv.com/videos/seether/639291/country-song.jhtml#id=1568964. South African natives Seether debuted on the scene in 2002, have sold nearly 4 million units to date worldwide, and have become an impressive presence on the worldwide touring circuit, averaging more than 275 performances per year.
