Sam Adams’ New Seasonal Beers: Rustic Saison & East-West Kölsch

On Sunday at the International Wine, Spirit, and Beer Event at McCormick Place, we caught up with the Boston Beer Company aka,  Samuel Adams, to see what was new in their line of beer.  They have two new tasty beverages at consumer’s disposal for the summer.  First is the Rustic Saison and them East-West Kölsch.

The Rustic Saison is their classic Belgian Farmhouse Ale brewed with Sam Adams’ distinctive yeast.  It’s not a dark beer by any means.  It even has a bit of a sweet taste to it. This beer is sold in the Summer Styles Variety Pack and as a draft in select areas. This is definitely the better of the two seasonal beers this summer.

Here is the lowdown on the Rustic Saison:
Calories: 142.9
Alcohol: 4.35% ABV
First Brewed: 2011
Availability: April through July in the Summer Styles Variety Pack
Best Paired with: soft cream cheese like Camembert or Brie

The second is East-West Kölsch.  This beer is brewed with the night blooming Jasmine Sambac from South East Asia and Alsatian Hops.  Here is another light beer from Sam Adams.  This brew has more lemony and citris taste versus the sweeter flavor of the Rustic Saison.

The East-West Kölsch lowdown:
Calories: 146.7
Alcohol: 5.01% ABV
First Brewed: 2011
Availability: April through July in the Summer Styles Variety Pack
Best Paired with: trout cooked with lemon and herbs
