Ximena Sariñana Selected As The Next VH1 “You Oughta Know” Artist
Debut English-Language Album Out August 2, 2011
Tour with Sia and Oh Land Kicks Off July 22nd
Ximena Sariñana (he-MEN-a sa-rin-YAH-na) has been selected as VH1’s “You Oughta Know” artist for the month of August. Launched in 2004, VH1’s “You Oughta Know” program introduces promising new artists on the rise to VH1’s base of music lovers. This highly acclaimed franchise has helped break many artists such as Adele, Mumford & Sons, Amy Winehouse, Feist, Regina Spektor and more. Current “You Oughta Know” artists include Grace Potter and The Nocturnals, Two Door Cinema Club, Christina Perri, The Civil Wars and Fitz and The Tantrums.
The 25 year-old Mexican singer, songwriter and keyboardist is releasing her English-language debut on August 2nd. Recorded in Los Angeles with Greg Kurstin (Lily Allen, Bird and the Bee), Dave Sitek (TV on the Radio, Yeah Yeah Yeahs) and Natalia Lafourcade, the self-titled album is a collection of songs that showcase her striking voice, smart, thoughtful lyrics and offbeat personality. SPIN has given it an 8 out of 10 rave review, and Marie Claire called first single “Different,” “an effervescent theme song for sane women in a crazy world.” The video for “Different” will premiere on AOL Music July 26th.
After fronting a successful indie band in her native Mexico, Ximena released her Spanish-language solo debutMediocre in 2008. The album debuted at #1 in Mexico and scored two Latin Grammy nods and a US Grammy Award nomination, as well as the Best New Artist win at the Latin MTV Awards. Rolling Stone called the album “one of the strongest debuts from a female singer-songwriter since Norah Jones’ ‘Come Away With Me'” and gave it four stars.
The daughter of acclaimed film director Fernando Sariñana, Ximena has also been acting since the age of 11. She has starred in three telenovelas and 11 Mexican films, ranging from box office hit Amar Te Duele (2002), to film festival winner Dos Abrazos (2007), which won the 2007 Best New Narrative Filmmaker Award at the Tribeca Film Festival and earned Ximena the prize for Best Supporting Actress by the Mexican Film Critics and Press Board.
Oh the heels of tours with Fitz and the Tantrums and Ray LaMontagne, Ximena will be hitting the road with Sia and Oh Land. Ximena joins the nationwide run on July 22nd in Chicago, IL – it runs through August 19th in Vancouver, BC. She is also playing this year’s Lollapalooza and Outside Lands festivals.
