Q Unlimited Stage
I really hate to be writing this review – scratch that- I can’t believe I am writing this review. I caught the last 15 minutes of Cee Lo’s set on Saturday at the south end of the festival at Q Music Unlimited stage. I apparently only needed to hear the last 4 songs to get the feeling for the entire set. I walked into the show right before he was going to play a cover that he said, “Some of you may recognize.” I didn’t recognize it, but that is neither here nor there because the song had to be restarted to get the introduction correct. If having to restart one song wasn’t nerve-wracking enough, the band had to restart the next song, “Crazy”, also! It was obvious that this wasn’t going as planned for Cee Lo. There was a point in “Crazy” where it sounded like he was mumbling lyrics as if he forgot them.
He announced that the next song was going to be his last. I turned to the man standing next to me, that I had never met before in my life, and he said, “It’s only 7:10!” Cee Lo cut his set 15 minutes short of what was listed on the official Lollapalooza schedule. The set was so disappointing because Cee Lo can really kill it when he’s hot. For example his group performance on The Voice. That was sensational! I think that’s what we were all expecting. After the show I had to ask several others that were there if they heard the same thing. We were all in shock at the train wreck that happened on the stage.
The positive of it all is he looks fabulous! His stage show alone is entertaining, but he doesn’t seem to be the live performance type. I’d rather have Cee Lo stick to writing, recording albums, and collaborating with other artists. That is where he truly shines!
