Evanescence (Amy Lee) The Rave Milwaukee

Their back!! Evanescence just released their highly anticipated follow-up to 2006’s Open Door. Their newest self-titled release scored the #1 spot  on the Billboard charts by selling over 128,083 copies the week of the release.  Up to this release, Evanescence has sold 22-million records world-wide and won 2 Grammy Awards for Best Hard Rock Performance and Best New Artist. “Bring Me To Life” spent 32 weeks on the Billboard charts and has been their biggest hit to date by peaking at #5 on the charts. It hit #2 on the Pop Songs Chart, #5 on the Radio Songs, #5 on Alternative Songs, and #10 Adult Pop Song chart back in June 2003.  They also saw success with “My Immortal” which also spent 32 weeks on the charts and peaked at the #7 spot back in April 10, 2004.  It wasn’t until 2 years later their single off Open Door,Call Me When You’re Sober,” that spent 17 weeks in the Billboard charts and hit the #10 spot.

Evanescence (Amy Lee) The Rave MilwaukeeThe band delivered their hits as well as news songs off their self-titled release.  They kicked the night off with the first track off the album “What You Want.” It was definitely a crowd pleaser.  After several songs in, Amy sat at the grand piano that was placed at the helm of the stage and played three songs. Once Amy hit the piano the tone of the show shifted and many brought out their cell phones as “lighters.”  It was a 180 from the higher octane of “What You Want.” Amy introduced “Lost in Paradise” and “My Heart is Broken” off the new album and the crowd screamed as Amy transitioned in their hit “Lithium” off Open Door. The band didn’t play their biggest hits until the end, but then again, they saved the best for last!

There are bands that rock  but when they perform live their stage presence sometimes isn’t nearly as rockin’ as their sound.  Maybe a little disappointment sets in as a fan? It’s what I like to call the lead singer syndrome. It’s  where the frontman stands at the mic stand and never moves. Not the case here!  Amy isn’t one to stand in one place and sing.   She’s constantly moving while belting out the tunes. Amy actually doesn’t have a mic stand at all. I haven’t seen that for awhile. Many performers want to dress up their mic stands, but it’s great to see Amy forgo that completely. It opens her up to the fans because there is nothing between her and them.   Amy is also a true master at being consistent and not burning out her voice by the end of the set.  Nailed it to the end! Amy couldn’t have been more greatly for her fans and she thanked them for buying the album and making the #1 album on Billboard since it’s release.

They are currently out on a tour with Taylor Momsen’s The Pretty Reckless.
