J.LO Promotes Nonexisting Album on SNL

Posted by Yvette Casillas On February - 23 - 2010

Actress-singer Jennifer Lopez was booked to appear on this weekend’s Saturday Night Live as both the host and musical guest to plug her April 23’s comedy film The Back-Up Plan and her seventh pop album Love?. That is until Love?’s April release was canceled when Lopez “parted ways” with Epic Records. I must say I heard said single this morning and it was terrible! I couldn’t even listen to it from beginning to end. Word on the street is the chart failure of the record’s shoe-themed lead single “Louboutins” and her hilarious performance at the American Music Awards, during which these very shoes caused her to fall down. Lopez insiders say that Love? was “by no means done” and that J.Lo was “only a few songs into it,”. Funny how The Back-Up Plan’s release was once moved from January to April to coincide with the album’s. Lopez will most likely be forced to sing something in between skits this Saturday. I’d like to suggest some old skool Jenny from the Block please!

The Famous Abbey Road May Be Up For Sale

Posted by Yvette Casillas On February - 17 - 2010

The 19th Century Georgian town house in north London known as Abbey Road Studios may be up for sale. The Financial Times reported on Monday that EMI, the troubled record label that has owned it for decades, had put the studio on the market and could raise “tens of millions of pounds” from the sale. A spokeswoman for EMI declined to comment on Tuesday. EMI was bought by the British private equity firm Terra Firma in 2007 for $8 billion, with a net loss of $1.6 billion in its last fiscal year and has been struggling under a heavy debt load. Abby Road has been used as a recording studio since 1931 but has been immortalized by The Beatles. The Beatles held most of their sessions there, and on the cover of their 1969 album “Abbey Road,” above, the band members are pictured walking single-file through a pedestrian crossing outside the studio. Other recorded groups at Abbey Road include Pink Floyd, Radiohead, Oasis and Blur.

Pontiac Civic Center

Posted by Yvette Casillas On February - 16 - 2010

Pontiac Civic Center
201 Southwest Jefferson Avenue
Peoria, IL 61602

So the trip down to Peoria was an interesting one for me and Jess. Full of various events that made us wish we had never agreed to drive the 3.5 hr drive down to the middle of nowhere. When we arrived to the Civic Center there were mass amounts of people everywhere which seemed pretty normal for a rock show at an area, until we realized the Civic Center is probably the only means of entertainment for city. We followed the signs that said Box Office to pick up our tickets and press pass. I don’t know how big this place really is but the “arena” like room where we thought we would be in had kids hockey. So needless to say we were at the wrong box office from the start. After waiting in line and making our way through the sea of people waiting for their game to start we finally found where we needed to be. I will never know how box offices run their shit but all I know is it really pisses me off when shit doesn’t flow as it should. We give our name, say we need 2 tickets, photo and video pass. Well the girl at the window gave us our photo pass but no tickets and no video pass. What good is a photo pass without tickets!?!? How does the box office not have the means to print tickets and how does the Production Manager not have this shit ready when the Box Office OPENS!?!?! We were told tickets would be ready at 6:30. Fine, that will give us enough time to get in, assemble the camera and get in the pit. No problem right?

WRONG AGAIN!

Chiditarod 2010 – Call to Arms!

Posted by Yvette Casillas On February - 10 - 2010

Chiditarod (ʃai*dit’*ə*rɒd): n.) the annual Chicago-based phenomenon that combines elements of the Alaskan Iditarod with Chicago’s finest brand of debaucherous social activism. One part food drive, one part pub-crawl, one part costumed race, all parts radtacular.

“RUNNING ROUGHSHOD OVER HUNGER SINCE 2006”

The *AWESOME* known as Chiditarod is now in its 5th year. On March 6th, 2010, Chicago’s mushers, artists, pub-crawlers, enthusiastic leisurists, professional badasses, cartoon characters, activists, ninjas, saboteurs and of course, robots, will assemble yet again to perpetrate what is “nearly definitely the largest mobile food drive in the known world.”

It’s still not too late to enter! Assemble a team of five – answer the call to glory. To fend off procrastination and make race-day logistics actually doable, here is the 411:

$30/team through February 15th
$40/team through March 5th
$50/team + public scorn if you register on race-day!

Or you can Volunteer! Chiditarod is for the people, by the people. Volunteers are why this event can happen. 100 volunteers needed to make Chiditarod a reality. Please join!. It’s fun, especially if you can remember it.

I was at Chiditarod last year to see all the madness ensue and can’t wait to see what 2010 has to bring. I won’t be in the race this year but I will be making my rounds to document the most *AWESOME* event the Chi has to offer.

Yes Queen Latifah Sings!

Posted by Yvette Casillas On February - 8 - 2010

Sorry but I have to get this off my chest. So I am at a Super Bowl party last night and as many of you know Queen Latifah opened with “America the Beautiful” and during her performance one of the girls at the party says “When did Queen Latifah start singing?” Are you friggin’ kidding me!?!?!?!? Does no one remember when Queen Latifah used to rap and sing before she started acting? God am I really getting that old, maybe I should just blame it on a generation gap? I rocked out to U.N.I.T.Y on cassette tape! Ok maybe it is my age, but whatever! People should know that she used to sing back in the day. That’s like not knowing Will Smith used to rap before he hit it big on the Fresh Prince of Bell-Air. Comon’ People!

Anyway I thought Queen Latifah did a fabulous job and wish she would make more appearances signing.
