The Orpheum Theater in Madison, Wis., has seen a plethora of sold-out shows since Frank Productions took over the troubled property in late 2012. Volbeat pulled into town on Thursday night, May 16, and played to a packed house with Eye Empire opening the show.

Alice in Chains invaded The Rave in Milwaukee on May 15. They are touring on new music, “The Devil Put Dinosaurs Here,” slated to be released on May 28. The band are currently playing mid-sized clubs as they hop between headline stints at major summer festivals such as Carolina Rebellion and the three-day Rock on the Range in Ohio. Bloodnstuff, a two-piece alternative rock act, opened the show.

Following a three-year hiatus, an eternity for their dedicated fans, Fall Out Boy finally kicked off the opening night of their “Save Rock and Roll” tour on May 14, 2013, at The Rave in Milwaukee. The sold-out show followed a free show in Madison, Wis., the previous night at the Majestic Theater; part of the Yahoo! on the Road concert series that doubled as a warm-up gig for the tour.

The final day of the inaugural BottleRock music festival in Napa, Calif. came to a close on Sunday, May 12, with the Zac Brown Band. Warm weather and cloudless skies provided a perfect complement to the music and local culinary pleasures. The afternoon featured music from a plethora of tastes that included Cake, The Wallflowers, Train, Brandi Carlile, Rodrigo y Gabriela, Michael Franti and the legendary Mavis Staples to name a few.

The inaugural BottleRock music festival in Napa Valley quickly moved past its infancy from opening day. Friday, May 10, drew a larger crowd and with it came a few growing pains. Aside from a few issues maneuvering between stages, prompting fans to refer to the event as BottleNeck, everything else seemed to operate efficiently.

Black Crowes - BottleRock

The inaugural BottleRock Napa Valley music festival is a major achievement for the relatively sleepy town north of San Francisco, best known as a wine and food destination. Rather than develop a one- or two-day event for their first year, they opted to go all-out and bring in major acts spread over five days. May 9 was the opening day and featured performances by The Avett Brothers, The Black Crowes, Violent Femmes and Primus.

The beautiful Uptown Theatre in Napa Valley offered a screening of “Sound City,” a documentary detailing the history of the fabled Los Angeles recording studio of the same name, on May 6, 2013. It was a rare opportunity to observe the film followed by a conversation with Director Dave Grohl, drummer for Nirvana and frontman for the Foo Fighters, and BottleRock Music Festival co-founder Gabe Meyers.

Alice In Chains - 2013 Carolina Rebellion

Carolina Rebellion returned to North Carolina for the third incarnation of the hard rock music festival on May 4 and 5 at Rock City Campgrounds near Charlotte Motor Speedway. Expanding to a two-day event for the first time, this years festival started on a high note Saturday before slamming to a halt on Sunday due to inclement weather. Though many fans walked away disgruntled, canceling the majority of acts on Sunday was the right choice considering the tragic loss of life at similar events over the past few years during severe storms.

Tim McGraw pulled into the Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre in Charlotte, N.C., on Friday, May 3. The packed venue was the second night of the 2013 “Two Lanes of Freedom” tour, the album of the same name hit the streets in February. McGraw is riding high, coming off last year’s “Brothers of the Sun” tour with Kenny Chesney–one of the top grossing tours of 2012. Brantley Gilbert provided support while Love and Theft opened the show.

Roughly 7,000 fans ventured out on a day that saw torrential rain produce flooded interstates, in addition to neighborhood sinkholes that had absorbed entire vehicles.

Fans realized they were in for a treat as a dozen tour semis lined the parking lot leading into the Alliant. Thomas Rhett opened the show with a fast-paced, 30-minute show. Jake Owen followed with a well produced, lively performance that ensured the crowd was primed for Aldean.

The Hives were up to the challenge as vocalist Howlin’ Pelle Almqvist worked the vast United Center on March 9 the only way he knows–without constraint.

The show concluded roughly eight weeks of dates going back to November 2012, not including a break for the holidays. Both bands played lengthy 90-minutes sets, giving the fans a double dose of music for their money.

In mid-2012 they signed with Wind-Up records and by the end of the year they were announced as the opener for the second leg of Daughtry and 3 Doors Down co-headline U.S. tour. That tour saw its final show at the Resch Center in Green Bay, Wis. on March 6.

They came into Milwaukee strong following their pre-game Super Bowl XLVII performance last week. Phillip Phillips, the season 11 winner of “American Idol,” opened the show and was warmly welcomed by the Riverside crowd.

Phillip Phillips - 2013 Tour

Phillip Phillips won season 11 of “American Idol” and fast-tracked to the big leagues with his first single “Home” already attaining triple-platinum status. He is currently the opening act on Matchbox Twenty’s 2013 tour, which rolled through Milwaukee on Feb. 9, 2013. The series of sold-out shows on the tour offers Phillips a perfect outlet to showcase his talents.

Shinedown - 2013 Amaryllis tour 1

Shinedown have toured relentlessly since they released “Amaryllis” in March 2012. The album peaked at the top spot on Billboard’s Rock Chart and has since produced a trio of chart-topping singles. They also headlined the successful UPROAR Music Festival in addition to their own tour and a number of large summer festivals. The second night of their current tour rolled into the Alliant Energy Center in Madison, Wisc. on Feb. 2, 2013. Three Days Grace co-headlined the bill with P.O.D. opening the show.

Three Days Grace and Shinedown rolled into frigid Madison, Wisc. on Feb. 2, 2013 for a co-headline gig that also featured P.O.D. The show was just the second night of the tour, which runs through the end of March while meandering across the Eastern U.S.

Grunge icons Soundgarden have returned to the stage following a drawn-out 13-year hiatus. Touring on new music, “King Animal,” they rolled into Eagle’s Ballroom at The Rave in Milwaukee on Feb. 1, 2013. The sold-out show offered rabid fans a lengthy set with no opening act.

The Darkness - 2013 Tour 1

The Rave welcomed British glam rockers, The Darkness, to Milwaukee on Jan. 26, 2013. On an evening when rising country star Chris Young was also playing upstairs in the Eagle’s Ballroom, the line to enter The Rave appeared to be a confused amalgamation of flannel, boots and leather pants. Once the venue staff ushered fans to their respective venues, order was restored and the assembled mass of black t-shirts were ready to rock.

Stone Sour and Papa Roach are in the midst of a co-headline tour that rolled through the Eagle’s Ballroom at The Rave in Milwaukee on Jan. 25, 2013. What began with a thin crowd as tour opener Otherwise hit the stage at 7 p.m., quickly amassed into a crowd-surfing throng by the time Papa Roach had pumped out a few songs.

The Wisconsin Union Directorate at UW-Madison welcomed back students from winter break with “Some Night” at the Union on Jan. 24, 2013. Grammy-nominated fun. performed at Varsity Hall to a sold-out and raucous crowd, limited to UW-Madison students. Most of the fans were in time with vocalist Nate Ruess for the entire 90-minute set.

Grace Potter and the Nocturnals - 2013 tour

The Pabst Theater packed in a sold-out crowd for Grace Potter and the Nocturnals on Jan. 20, 2013. Fans arrived early for the general admission show despite the arctic temperatures that enveloped Milwaukee on Sunday evening. Langhorne Slim and the Law opened the show and did a fantastic job warming up the chilled crowd.
