Yvette’s Monthly Mixer: Loopy by Three Olives

So Three Olives has this new vodka called Loopy that tastes just like Fruit Loops! It was the colorful Fruit Loop like bottle that drew me in. Liquor that tastes like one of my favorite childhood cereals!? Where could this go wrong, right? They had some recipes with the bottle that were just weird to me, one involved milk and it freaked me out. I just decided to go with a standard vodka and soda.

Drink Ingredients:
1 oz Loopy
Sprite
Ice

Drink Preparation:
Fill glass with ice, add Loopy and fill with Sprite. Garnish with Fruit Loops!

Servings: 1

The Hangover:
When I followed my nose it smelled just like Fruit Loops! My first impression was you could probably mix this with almost anything and it would be delicious! I thought I would be getting day drunk drinking this all day long. Boy was I wrong! After a short while the novelty of it all wore off and in the end it was just too fruity for me. I normally don’t mind fruity drinks but this ended up being overkill. I would prefer to have this as a shot. I think it’s a great conversation starter and fun to introduce people to but I could never stick to this all night long. Kudos to Three Olives for making their new vodka smell and taste like the real deal!

Yvette’s Monthly Mixer – Shamrock Mint

Yvettes Monthly Mixer Shamrock Mint

Welcome back to my Monthly Mixer! In honor of St Patty’s Day I would like to highlight an Irish mixture called the Shamrock Mint. It’s green, it’s creamy, and a lil filling.

Drink Ingredients:
1 oz Baileys
1 oz Crème de Menthe
Milk
Whip Cream

Drink Preparation:
Add Baileys, Crème de Menthe, fill with Milk and top with Whip Cream.

Servings: 1

The Hangover:
Honestly I could only have one. The milk threw me off a bit even though it was super tasty! I think I will keep this one in mind as a dessert cocktail. I bet this would also be good with hot chocolate….hmmm that sounds like a good idea.

Yvette’s Monthly Mixer – Yvette’s Tropical Kiss

Yvettes Monthly Mixer Tropical Kiss

Welcome back to my Monthly Mixer! I can’t believe it’s February already! In celebration of Valentine’s Day I have created a concoction that is sure to get your Valentines started right. This cocktail has the most ingredients I have ever featured. I give you “Yvette’s Tropical Kiss”.

Drink Ingredients:
1 oz Peppermint Schnapps
1 oz Rum
1 oz Gin
1 oz Triple Sec
Orange Juice
Ice

Drink Preparation:
Fill glass with ice. Add in all your ingredients and fill glass with orange juice. Stir and serve.

Servings: 1

The Hangover:
I was a bit surprised, out of all the booze in this drink it had an overall minty/orange taste. It was quite refreshing. But I gotta be honest this drink started creep on me when I was about a quarter way through. How could it not with all that booze! I think this one is a keeper!

Yvette’s Monthly Mixer – Bubbles n’ Blue

Yvette's Monthly Mixer Bubbles 'n Blue

New Years is just around the corner so I thought I would share a new concoction I discovered. I love Hpnotiq and combine it will all sorts of mixers but would have never mixed it up with Champagne. It was super refreshing and really helped spread out my Champagne.

Drink Ingredients:
1oz Hpnotiq
Champagne

Drink Preparation:
Add Hpnotiq to champagne flute then fill the rest with champagne. Garnish with lemon twist or orange to be fancy about it.

Servings: 1

The Hangover:
I think this is the perfect New Years mix! Hpnotiq is a sweet liquor and Champagne is delicious by itself so together they are pretty bad ass. I really liked this blend and will definitely be serving it up to ring in 2012. Enjoy!

Yvette’s Monthly Mixer – Blue Snowflake

Yvette's Monthly Mixer Blue Snowflake

Christmas is coming!!!! In light of the holiday spirit try this tasty Hpnotiq concoction. Now the original recipe calls for 2 oz of Hpnotiq but I thought it was a bit much so we made it with only 1. Turned out really good! But I will leave that up to you, either way it’s gonna be amazing!

Drink Ingredients:
1 oz Hpnotiq
1 oz Vodka
Pineapple Juice
Ice

Drink Preparation:
Fill glass with ice. Add Hpnotiq, Vodka, then fill glass with pineapple juice. Give it a lil stir or shake it up in a shaker and enjoy! I garnished with a lemon but you could get crazy and use some rock candy sticks.

Servings: 1

The Hangover:
This tiny cocktail is packed with a punch! Hpnotiq & Vodka!? This is gonna get you all warm and fuzzy inside in no time! I know it probably doesn’t sound very appealing, personally I would have never thought of mixing Hpnotiq and Vodka together but this was delicious!

Enjoy & let me know what ya think of the Blue Snowflake!

Yvette’s Monthly Mixer – Tequila Sunrise

Yvettes Monthly Mixer Tequila Sunrise

In celebration of Dia de los Muertos I would like to highlight a basic Tequila Sunrise. There are many variations of how people like to make a Tequila Sunrise, some people use lemon juice or cherry brandy, but I like to stick to a more traditional Sunrise.

Drink Ingredients:
1 oz Light Tequila
½ oz Grenadine
Orange Juice
Ice

Drink Preparation:
Fill glass with ice. Add tequila, as always I prefer to use white Sauza, fill glass with orange juice and top off with Grenadine. No need to stir! Let the Grenadine settle at the bottom. As you drink the Grenadine will rise – hence Tequila Sunrise.

Servings: 1

The Hangover:
I love to mix tequila! Personally I like to add a tad more Grenadine to mine. Sometimes if I add a lil too much I will stir it up which makes it taste mucho better! Hope everyone is enjoying Day of The Dead!

Yvette’s Monthly Mixer – Bat-Bull

Yvettes Monthly Mixer Bat-Bull

I know lots of people like Vodka or Jack with their Red Bull but I prefer Bacardi. Just a regular Bacardi will do! Super simple and delicious!

Drink Ingredients:
Bacardi
Red Bull
Lime
Ice

Drink Preparation:
Fill glass with ice. Add 1 oz. of Bacardi, fill rest of glass with Red Bull and dress with a lime.

Servings: 1

The Hangover:
Tip to the wise with any Red Bull concoction, only have 1 or 2! When I first started drinking Bat-Bulls I made the mistake of drinking them all night. Yeah….not so awesome when you try to lay a heady down!

Yvette’s Monthly Mixer – Madras

Yvette Monthly Mixer Madras

Every year around this time my family & friends really get into brunches. I don’t know if it’s cause the change of the season or maybe cause there are tons of fall birthdays…..I don’t really know! But I always find myself ordering up a mimosa. It’s fitting. Brunch = Mimosa right! Well let me tell you I’m getting a little tired of them…..so I found a drink that is similar with a slight difference…..Madras! It’s pretty much a mimosa but with cranberry juice. Here’s how ya serve it up!

Drink Ingredients:
½ Orange Juice
½ Cranberry Juice
1 oz. Vodka
Ice

Drink Preparation:
Fill glass with ice, fill half with Orange Juice and the other half with Cranberry Juice. Add 1 oz of Vodka.
I used Apple, Kiwi, Strawberry Juice and Smirnoff’s Passion Fruit Vodka. So good!

Servings: 1

The Hangover:
Oh my goodness I think using different variations of juice and a flavored vodka is key! This was super delish and will be added into my cocktail rotation for a while!

Yvette’s Monthly Mixer – White Wine Summer Spritzer

Yvettes Monthly Mixer White Wine Spritzer

Wow is it August already? This month I’d like to highlight one more summer time cocktail before fall rolls in. A personal goal of mine has been to drink more wine. I love a good Pinot Grigio! While being a wino over the weekend I tried a new brand called Little Black Dress. Their Pinot is a little more pungent than what I am used to – hence trying the classic White Wine Spritzer.

White Wine Spritzer’s are trouble-free and can be spiced up with any added ingredients of your choice. If Club Soda doesn’t do it for you try a flavored soda or maybe even a little Triple sec or Schnapps. Fancy it up to your liking!

Drink Ingredients:
White Wine
Club Soda
Lemon
Ice

Drink Preparation:
Add some ice to your glass. Fill half your glass with the white wine of your choice and the other half with club soda. Jazz it up with a slice of lemon.

Servings: 1

The Hangover:
Perfect for a hot summer night. It’s so refreshing! Usually when I drink wine I wake up with a slight headache. But I think I have found my cure! By mixing it up with some club soda – no morning headache! If you have any suggestions on this month’s mixer please let me know! Enjoy!

Yvette’s Monthly Mixer – Lunch Box

Yvette's Monthly Mixer Lunch Box

I love simple drinks that you can make at home even if you do not have a large stocked bar. Chances are you already have 2 out of the 3 items you need for this month’s mixer. It’s a drink that has become more and more popular these days called the Lunch Box. The secret to this drink that not many people know is that it’s meant to be slammed. Yes you heard me right! It’s a drink that is to be taken like a shot! Now I don’t  personally don’t drink it that way and usually I make mine a double. Or if you wanna make it a little bit stronger you can always add in more beer to fill up the galss. But try it out and see which way you like it best!

Drink Ingredients:
Lager – Any Light Beer will do.
OJ 1 oz
Amaretto 1 oz
*Please not the drink in the photo is a double*

Drink Preparation:
Fill a Tall Glass with 1/3 of your beer (I prefer Bud Light). Add 1 oz of OJ and 1 oz of Amaretto.

Servings: 1

The Hangover:
Let me tell you, you should have no worries on feeling this one right away! I mean look at what’s in it! The only non alcohol item in this one is an ounce of OJ. Here is another quick and easy cocktail to add to your summer. Enjoy!

Yvette’s Monthly Mixer – Poor Man’s Margarita

Poor Mans Margarita

Welcome back to Yvette’s Monthly Mixer! This month I would like to highlight a cocktail that is one of my all time favs. It’s a lil drink my husband likes to call the “Poor Man’s Margarita”. This is a perfect drink to enjoy with Father’s Day weekend upon us. The Poor Man’s Margarita is so super simple and the best part is you probably already have the ingredients at home. All you need is some white tequila and a can of Squirt. Toss it in a salted rimed glass add a lime to spruce it up and VOILA! You have a baller on a budget margarita.

Drink Ingredients:
White Tequila (1 oz)
Squirt
Lime
Salt
Ice

Drink Preparation:
Rim your glass with lime then salt. Add ice, 1 oz of White Tequila (I prefer Silver Sauza), fill the rest of your glass with Squirt.

Servings: 1

The Hangover:
I love this drink! Since I can’t do tequila shots anymore I love to mix it with a lil Squirt. At my house we always have Squirt and Tequila on hand so it’s a convenient concoction to make when you are in the mood for a quick and easy cocktail. Enjoy!

Yvette’s Monthly Mixer – Jolly Goose

Jolly Goose

Welcome to my very first Monthly Mixer! Every month I will be highlighting a tasty beverage for your enjoyment. Some of these drinks are personal concoctions I have made up or my own twist on some of your all time favorites.

Just in time for spring we have come up with a drink I like to call the Jolly Goose. Now this is just a prototype, the final touches are still in the works. All you need is a blender full of ice, about 30-40 Jolly Ranchers – depending on how sweet you like it, and some regular vodka (I prefer the ” Goose”). Mix them all together and serve.

Drink Ingredients:
Jolly Ranchers (30-40 pieces)
Grey Goose Vodka (1 cup)
Ice

Drink Preparation:
Mix ingredients in blender with ice and enjoy!

Servings: 2

The Hangover:
I thought this was going to be a pretty harsh drink considering the limited ingredients but the potency was to a minimum. I found it to be quite tasty. And of course the more Jolly Ranchers you use the sweeter it is. We were making them pretty tart which was great at first but after a couple of these my tummy said otherwise. Overall it was a great drink to try at least once or for your first drink of the night!
