The most popular social networking site will finally open their long awaited music store at the end of the month. Users will be able to download and stream millions of songs, including new music and back catalog from three of the four major music labels. (EMI has not come to an agreement) Myspace will offer DRM-free downloads at competitive prices. To set themselves apart from iTunes & Amazon Myspace is going to allow fans to share music through their pages and build community playlists along with placing links to be able to buy merch & tickets. Artists can use their profile page to sell downloads, ringtones, wallpaper images, concert tickets and merch. Of course all of this is free of charge & paid for by their advertising.

So the big question is do you think this is the end of Apple’s domination as the No. 1 online music seller? I don’t seem to think so. Apple has years under their belts as the world’s greatest retailers & marketers. For the past six years Apple has had supreme power over internet music sales. And lets not forget Apple’s very large & loyal following. I don’t think Apple has anything to worry about but it will be interesting to see what MySpace will bring to the table.
