2009 has already been a whirlwind year for Boston’s Passion Pit, but it’s not quite over yet! Having already been nominated for an MTV VMA, for their video “The Reeling”, and winning Best Album from Boston’s WXPN, the accolades just will not stop flowing. After amazing stops at Lollapalooza, Bonaroo, and Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, Passion Pit has an even bigger fall planned! It all kicks off in late September with a pair of sold out shows at Central Park Summerstage playing alongside Phoenix. From there the band will be rocking Monolith, Austin City Limits, Treasure Island and many more US dates before heading overseas to the UK where they are absolutely adored. Stay tuned… This is a band who will be keeping your feet moving well into 2010!
The Boston Phoenix: “Winner of Best Album (Manners), Best Local Act, Best Song (“The Reeling”), and Best Male Vocalist in Boston Phoenix’s Best New Music Poll 2009.”
8.1 / 10 – “…it’s the sort of heart-to-heart populist record that’s every bit as sincere as it is infectious.”
4 Stars – “…a shiny bouquet of synth-pop roses, with perfumed Eighties keyboard whooshes and modern stutter beats crooking a finger toward the dance floor.”
B – “…youthful anxiety made irresistibly danceable.”
92% – : “What we need in these weary times—and what Passion Pit brings—is exuberance. Manners delivers the elusive feeling that everything will be alright. Or, just maybe, that everything already is.”
Elle
“On the group’s first full-length album, Manners, its rarefied brand of electronic cool, heightened by Angelakos’ impressive falsetto, has had the club kids moving and being moved with its groovy euphoric anthems.”
“While synth-pop is the overriding genre here, the whizzering keys and dance beats of songs like “Moth’s Wings” and “Let Your Love Grow Tall” coexist peacefully with acoustic guitars and classic pop harmonies from the Beatles/Beach Boys playbook. Beats loop and stutter in a contemporary chop-and-screw stew, but no matter how mechanized a groove may be – on the melancholic “Swimming in the Flood,” for instance – a soulful human heart beats through.
Teen Vogue
3.5/4 Stars – “…their full length album with its eighties special effects, kaleidoscopic soundscapes, and sing-along choruses, recorded by a children’s choir, does not disappoint.”
Nylon
“The most exciting debut of the year so far, it’s [Manners] an iridescent collection of lush, sparkling pop songs…”
“… a strobing flood of euphoric beats, manic loops, and refreshingly optimistic lyrics—in short, the kind of turn-it-up album that has you asking, What recession?”
Washington Post
“His [Angelakos] voice is put to best use on the rubbery, sublimely dorky love ballad “Sleepyhead,” while the mostly falsetto-free “Moth’s Wings” is pure, soaring pop.”
