It’s that time of year again where thousands of San Diegans and our lovely tourist friends hit the streets of East Village for Street Scene 2009. The annual event attracts music freaks, San Diego scenesters and those just looking for a really good excuse to drink and party alfresco in the Gaslamp Quarter during the day. Now in its 25th year, Street Scene promises another amazing lineup.

The music festival originated back in 2005 when a native San Diegan turned his passion for music and arts into one intermingled smorgasbord. With the help of local radio station 91X, people could run back and forth from the two stages on 5th Avenue and listen to five hours of live music – for 5 bucks. Street Scene this year features five different stages, dozens of musical artists, a Margarita Cantina, Microbrew Fest and VIP lounge on August 28 and 29. This year’s headliners include Black Eyed Peas, Modest Mouse, Cake, Conor Oberst & The Mystic Valley Band on Friday and M.I.A., Thievery Corporation, The Dead Weather and Silversun Pickups on Saturday.
