311 - 2012 Summerfest

Milwaukee was treated to a bevy of talent for Summerfest’s Fourth of July festivities. It was delivered with a bit of irony in that our independence from Great Britain was celebrated with a handful of musical acts from the United Kingdom. Iron Maiden, David Gray and The Joy Formidable headlined alongside 311, Ziggy Marley and The BoDeans.

Summerfest 2012, The worlds biggest music festival turns 45 years young.

For those who love festival season there are a lot of choices these days, but how many can boast a 45 year run, attracting the biggest names in music, and millions of people having attended?  In it’s eleven day run, June 27-July 1st, and July 3-8th, Summerfest has every music lovers desires covered. With it’s multiple stages, and it’s world class amphitheater, Summerfest leaves no size act without a stage to perform.  Situated right on Milwaukee’s Lakefront, in the middle of Beer City USA, Summerfest is a must see for everyone who wants the best in music, in a setting that is comfortable and spacious. Well thought out and time tested, Summerfest has the Festival atmosphere down pat and is presented in a professional, convenient manner. A never ending scene of music, food, beer and people watching makes it a joy to return day after day. If you find yourself saying what is Summerfest, I say come to Milwaukee and see how it’s done. Building a Better Spaceship The Viper Room Los AngelesRoss and Vin

It was Tuesday night at the Viper Room in West Hollywood. We headed up to see Building a Better Spaceship, a local band to the Los Angeles area music scene.

This band is headed to some great places in the music industry. Building a Better Space Ship has played with acts such as Avenged Sevenfold, Lifehouse, Unwritten Law, 311, The Killers, 30 Seconds to Mars, and Hoobastank. The list is quite long.

Building a Better Spaceship The Viper Room Los Angeles

I had two hours to listen to their self-titled album on the car ride home.

Building a Better Spaceship The Viper Room Los AngelesSparky and I couldn’t get past track 2 on the album, “Falling in Line”. This is the song! If you haven’t heard it check their MySpaceout to hear it. The song is catchy with the sound of some great radio rock. If I get a Youtube clip of it or a recording I will post it because everybody needs to hear this song!

At the Viper Room they rocked the place and brought quite a crowd with them. They started at 9:30pm, which is early in Viper Time, but the band had to showcase, thus playing early.  That aside, the guys had the girls dancing up front and even the meanest looking man in the joint and the hippie in the corner were tapping their feet to the rhythm.

It’s been a long time since a band caught my attention like this. The melody and rhythms of each song were intense and well written. The guys shared in those duties and the band was very tight onstage and put on a hyper kinetic show.

This 5-piece rock band is one to keep your eyes on!

They have a show on September 26th at the 710 Club in Pacific Beach, California.  Plus, they now have residency at the Viper Room starting in October. If you live in the Southern California region and have a moment to catch the quintet live, it is a must.

June 29th – July 5th

This week at The Dead Hub, the crew saw some Pink Spiders and got together at the Unity Tour with Snoop Dogg, 311, and Sting’s Son’s Band, Fiction Plane.

Harmonix, MTV Games, and EA unleashed Rock Band 2, O.A.R. Saved our Souls at the House of Blues, and Jen was stormed on after Josh Kelley and right before seeing Chicago’s own Plain White T’s. We drank enough caffeine to stay up late at Lestat’s to see Tony Martino.

And one can’t forget being in the gracious presence of Mr. Robert Plant and the Soulful Alison Krauss at Humphrey’s.
