Friday-Sunday, May 25-27, 2012
Doors: 3:00 p.m.
Rocklahoma returns with yet another stellar lineup of top rock artists for a monstrous Memorial Day weekend party, May 25-27. The 2012 lineup features a variety of headliners and supporting acts that span several decades and genres of music. Creed, Rob Zombie and supergroup Chickenfoot will close each respective day’s festivities. With three stages and well over sixty hard rock acts, music will literally flow non-stop from early afternoon until late evening.
Guitar aficionados should be salivating to find Slash, Joe Satriani of Chickenfoot and Megadeth’s Dave Mustaine demonstrating their masterful fretwork in a live setting. Each has redefined music via their trademark styles, they are true pioneers of their craft. Those who prefer vocals need to look no further than Geoff Tate of Queensrÿche, his operatic voice is arguably one the the best in metal, past or present.
The festival also features a handful of bands that recently broke out on rock radio. Most notably, Chevelle and Volbeat have been around for years; yet both had their first Billboard #1 singles within the last few months. Both bands have been touring relentlessly and come in to Rocklahoma primed to impress. Other bands to appear that are currently sitting on hit singles, and on the verge of breaking out, include Janus, Redlight King, Aranda and New Medicine. Looking for a positive message with your music? P.O.D., Eve to Adam and Red are slated to perform Friday night and deliver a proclamation beyond the typical lyrical trifecta of sex, drugs and rock and roll.
Creed were among the top of the charts during the late ’90s. Their frontman Scott Stapp blew away the crowd when they opened their 2012 tour in Chicago a couple weeks ago. They’ll be looking to do the same in Pryor, OK at the top of Friday night’s lineup. The original members of The Darkness also recently reunited after five year hiatus. The British glam rockers brought 1980′s hair metal back to the forefront when “I Believe in a Thing Called Love” smashed the charts in 2003. They will perform on Saturday’s Rocklahoma lineup, hopefully with rumored new music in tow.
