Miranda Lambert’s “On Fire” Tour burns up Milwaukee

Miranda Lambert On Fire 2012 Tour

The past year has been good to Miranda. From marrying fellow country singer and The Voice judge, Blake Shelton last May, and performing “America the Beautiful” at the XLVI Superbowl she has every reason to be loving life.  Not to mention she is also taking part in Brad Paisley’s Virtual Reality Tour on June 6 at the historic Wrigley Field in the middle of her extensive tour along with the Stagecoach Music Festival in Indio, California.

Miranda Lambert On Fire 2012 TourMiranda’s 5th studio release is titled Four the Record and was released off Sony Music Nashville.  The album, co-written by Miranda, includes songs penned by Brandi Carlile, one of her Pistol Annie band members, Ashley Monroe, and Lady Antebellum’s Charles Kelley.   Guest performances include Josh Kelley, Steve Winwood, and Blake Shelton. Her release of Four the Record broke a 47-year record by making Miranda the first country music artist to have each of her releases debut at the #1 spot on the charts.  It also needs mention that Four the Record was also certified Gold.

Miranda is currently out on her On Fire tour with support from Chris Young and Jerrod Niemann. The tour kicked off mid January with back-to-back sold-out performances in Rockford, Illinois and La Crosse, Wisconsin.  Last night the tour stopped at the Bradley Center in Milwaukee and it was easy to see what the sold out shows where all about. While Miranda’s show was nothing less than pure entertainment for all in attendance, make no mistake, this ones for the ladies in the crowd. With the tone set by a video intro of strong women throughout history, if you were a guy coming to Miranda’s world to look for dainty ladies,,,,wrong night fella. Miranda’s , On Fire tour is a must see with great songs, great performances, and well done production. If you see shes coming to your town, you better get your tickets fast as this is sure to be one of the must see concerts of the season.

Laura Bell Bundy: From Broadway to Country Music

Laura bell bundy 1

There are two sides to every story, as the old adage goes, and there are certainly two sides to the story of singer-songwriter Laura Bell Bundy’s daring Mercury Records debut release, Achin’ and Shakin’. Laura Bell bypassed the tried-and-true Music Row approach usually taken on country albums and instead created a bold concept album that is essentially two separate albums within one project.

The album’s title aptly describes the project’s division: Achin’ is a collection of slow and sultry country songs and Shakin’ is a group of sassy songs that are equal parts humor, confidence and attitude. One side presents a modern-day mixture of Loretta Lynn, Minnie Pearl and Sex and the City’s Carrie Bradshaw; the other unveils country’s answer to Norah Jones. The debut single, “Giddy On Up,” is an irresistibly upbeat and saucy kiss-off to a cheating lover, while the romantic “Drop On By” oozes sensuality as she beckons a lover to visit. Both sides pay homage to traditional country and soul music with a reinterpretation featuring modern production. “’Two records, one woman’ is my motto,” jokes Laura Bell, who penned all but one of the songs on the album.

“I have two different sides of my personality,” she explains. “I have a crazy, wild, humorous, outspoken personality, and then I have a depth that only opens up when I am alone or with one other person, and that is captured with this album. I really couldn’t do one without the other.”

martina1The SunnyD Presents Shine All Night Tour Starring Martina McBride & Trace Adkins kicked off before the Thanksgiving holiday and night after night, McBride commanded legions of fans and critics to take note – The powerhouse vocalist can rock an arena with an all-out, swing-for-the-fences, no-holds-barred high energy production the size and scale of a rock star. Enthusiastic crowd reaction and highly animated audience participation proved McBride shattered all illusions of a sit-in-your-seat-and-clap-politely evening as the superstar entertainer unveiled surprise after surprise during her impressive 90 minute set of hit country music, costume changes, and elaborate production and staging.

“Opening night in Moline was nothing short of magic,” said McBride. It was not coincidence that this was the location of her Great Performances tv special and subsequent live DVD. The entertainer knew her enthusiastic Quad City audience was the perfect “home” to share such a special night.

“I wish I could describe how amazing it feels to be on the receiving end of all that love and positive energy,” McBride added.

She explained the first show is always electric and much of the excitement is due to the thrill of the unknown but a return to Moline heightened that experience. After countless hours of planning and rehearsing for the Shine All Night Tour, the moment to step onstage in front of thousands of anticipating fans arrived and McBride was anxious to see how well the new show would be received.

Kenny Chesney’s Carnival hits Stagecoach!

Kenny Chesney
Stagecoach Mane Stage – Indo, CA

Kenny Chesney Stagecoach Mane Stage - Indo, CA 4/26/2009I believe last night was the 5th time I have been blessed to see Kenny Chesney. Most of the time he was the opening act for Tim Mcgraw, but the last 2 times he was headlining. His buddy Kid Rock was on right before him trying to get the crowd ready. Unfortunately not all of Kid’s songs translated with this crowd. You could see the expression in the faces of many up front that didn’t understand Kid Rock.

I will tell you by the time Kenny Hit the stage the 40,000 plus fans were ready and eager to get the party started. Not to far into the set Kenny started belting out his hits, which many of the acts didn’t do. The second song was “She Thinks My Tractors Sexy” and even though it is one of my favorites it was very apparent that Kenny was still warming up his vocal cords. I thought it was going to be an off night for this man but he really turned it around. Now that I think about it I never had a bad experience at his concerts. He’s always “On”, but I guess that’s why he was Entertainer of the Year for so many years.

Kenny Chesney Stagecoach Mane Stage - Indo, CA 4/26/2009The best part of the night is the fact we caught his entire set and still made it out of the hellish parking lot with no problems or waiting. I saw floods of people leave early to try and beat traffic but even leaving at the end of the set didn’t make for any problems. We even were able to use the good port-a-potties that were in a trailer and flushed with no waiting. It’s the little things in life that can really make or break a night and using clean bathrooms is one of them.

Songs of the night in no particular order:(just to name a few)
Tractor Sexy
How Forever Feels
When the Sun Goes Down
Beer In Mexico
I go Back
Where I Come From
Don’t Happen Twice
Jack and Diane

Kevin Costner and the Modern West Stagecoach 2009 - Indio, CA Palomino Stage 4/25/2009

“You all look taller in person too!” was Kevin Costner’s line to kick off his performance at Stagecoach.

I don’t think any of us really believed that the real Kevin Costner was going to grace the Palomino Stage at Stagecoach. As we all packed into the tent, people were chatting about when they were going to bolt and were making other plans in case Kevin “sucked.”  Even Kevin knew that the tent was packed because people were just curious to see if he really had talent. By the way–he does.

I was lucky to get there early enough to have a prime seat on the haystack front row where I started to write yesterday. I decided that it was safer for all if I put the computer away during the performance.

More Pictures and the Review after the jump…

Kevin’s set was filled with good old rock and roll country. There were only two slower song songs in the set and one was a duet with Sara, one of the bandmate’s wives. The song is called “Let Me Be the One.” I really enjoyed it.  I don’t know if Kevin and his band write all Kevin’s songs, but if they do, I give them a thumbs up.

I really could appreciate the diversity in the songs that they played. For instance, Kevin sang about the devastation from Katrina in “5 Minutes to America” then a couple songs later he had the crowd moving with “Backyard.” Backyard is a simple song, really. It drives a point home for a lot of men. You know anybody who has broke down vehicles in their yards? You need to play them this song because as Kevin mentioned, “You will never fix those cars!”

To put an end to everyone’s curiosity, yes, Mr. Costner can sing and he’s very good at the country thing.  Plus he still looks just as handsome as ever, which helps greatly because he doesn’t have a huge stage presence when performing.  If you don’t believe me, there were just as many, if not more people in the tent near the end of his set than there was when he began.

Of course Kevin couldn’t just close the night like anybody else at Stagecoach. His last line of the night….”See you at the movies.”

The 45-Minute Set:

Took your Love Away from Me
5 Minutes from America
Long Hot Night
90 Miles Down the Road
A song about a soldier meeting his maker (sorry don’t know the song’s name)
The Sun Will Rise Again
Let Me Be the One
Hey Man, What About You (Super catchy and upbeat)

Stagecoach Day 1: Brad Paisley Teaser Shots

I am a little bit country and a hell of a lot of rock and roll, so when you mix the two together you get Brad Paisley! We are still sifting through hundreds of shots from yesterday but I can’t  help myself and felt this desire to post these two pictures of Brad.  No wonder why 40,000 people came out to see him last night. He was breaking curfew too! We will have more pictures for you very soon! I’ll post a link to the new post with a review and photos from Brad’s performance here.  Keep you eyes peeled!

Live From Stagecoach Day One: Kevin Costner and Modern West

We sat in traffic for over an hour just to get into the parking lot for Stagecoach. For those who don’t know, Stagecoach is in the same exact location as Coachella. The producers make more money just putting on another show the weekend after Coachella then strip everything down and put it back up months later. The cleaning crew did a great job because the ground look great after Coachella.

For the first time my computer is gracing a haystack front row waiting for Kevin Costner and his band. I’m being stared at because I am not reporting from the media tent but it really isn’t any fun back there.

Lynn Anderson just finished her set and she really had the crowd singing. She looked amazed and shocked at the crowd reaction to her set. She was so appreciative that she is STILL down front signing autographs for her fans.

My first impressions of Stagecoach are good minus the fact there are not enough water stations to fill our bottles. That is another thing to point out that I hope Lolla will catch onto. You can purchase a refillable water bottle with the Stagecoach logo on it for $10 and it’s free to fill all weekend. It is really cutting back on all the garbage around here. I already purchased my bottle as did many.

We will keep you updated all day and pictures are to come tonight or tomorrow depending on how much fun my photographer has tonight.

Update: Some pictures and review are up here!

The inaugural KWNR Guitar Pull is a music event to raise money for the local Boys Hope Girls Hope, an organization that empowers children to realize the potential that is within them by providing them with arms-around care, safe homes and environments, a first-class education, opportunities to learn more about themselves and the world, and academic, financial and spiritual support through college.

All the artists will be on stage, playing guitar, singing and jamming at the same time to their favorite songs. It’s a unique experience to see some of country’s favorites in a casual and fun light while benefiting a great charity. A silent auction will also take place throughout the night.

Robert Plant & Alison Krauss: Raising Sand Tour 2008

Robert Plant & Alison Krauss
Humphrey’s by the Bay – San Diego, CA

Robert Plant & Alison Krauss Humphrey's by the Bay - San Diego, CA 6/30/2008

It was a marvelous Monday night at Humphrey’s Concerts by the Bay. Humphrey’s is a smaller outdoor music venue that literally sits next to the bay. The sail boats docked at the port and the palm trees that lined the back of the stage made for a very intimate and appropriate setting for a night with Robert Plant and Alison Krauss.

Robert Plant decided to hit the road with Alison Krauss to support their joint release of Raising Sand, a collaboration that brought together two highly respected musicians from different backgrounds. Raising Sand brings together the blues, country, and the sultry edge from Robert Plant and the soulful power of Alison Krauss.

Monday’s concert was played to a sold-out audience. The set was filled with material from Raising Sun but also included older blues tracks and country music.

Though there was not much movement on-stage, but Krauss and Plant’s stage presence was immense. Plant’s subtle nuances and physical movements engaged the audience for the entire night.

Alison’s voice was nothing but strong and soulful. Her voice was completely mesmerizing during “Trampled Rose.” You could feel that she put her entire self into the performance.

The chemistry on-stage between Plant and Krauss was fitting and had many moments where they looked at each other and laughed. The band was tight, and on Humphrey’s stage, I mean that both figuratively and literally. The producer of Raising Sand, T Bone Burnett, accompanied them on-stage playing guitar. He even lead a song himself as Alison and Robert listened from the sidelines.

It was great to hear songs from both of their repitoires as well as blues classics.

The Raising Sand Tour is one that is not to be missed.

The Set for the night:

1.Rich Woman

2.Leave My Woman Alone

3.Black Dog – Incredible arrangement of the song that had a deep dark country soul to it.

4.Sister Rosetta Goes Before Us

5.Through the Morning Through the Night

6. It’s Goodbye and So Long to You

7.Fortune Teller

8. In the Mood

9. Black Country Woman

10.T-Bone song – Bon Temps Roule

11.Trampled Rose

12.Green Pastures

13.Down to the River – Alison’s Accapella Song which Robert joined in on.

14.Killing the Blues

Michelle Branch Releasing New Album this Summer

Michelle Branch Promo photo

I was very excited to hear Michelle Branch is back with a new album. She finished up in the studio recording the new album at the end of April and now just has to “mix and master” it. She did play Stagecoach Festival earlier in May after Coachella. Stagecoach is a country music festival that happens on the same stages of Coachella just a week after it.

Michelle does have a few shows planned for this summer. I really hope she adds more to the lineup.

Tour dates:

6/14/2008 Homestead , FL @ Homestead Miami Speedway (Infield)
6/21/2008 Detroit , MI @ Renaissance Center – FREE SHOW!
7/26/2008 Orlando, FL @ Marriott Orlando World Center
10/4/2008 Washington, DC @ Willard Inter-Continental Hotel

I didn’t get fully engaged in The Wrecker’s album, so it’s good to hear she’s back to where her albums originated from.

San Diego: Leann Down and Kenny to Go!

Kenny Chesney
Coors Amphitheater – Chula Vista, CA

It was a another beautiful evening in Southern California and the crew stepped out for a night with Kenny Chesney and Leann Rimes. As we walked through security there were signs plastered all over stating “Leanne Rimes will not be performing due to illness.” There were fans that squawked and there were fans that were there just for Chesney. It was quite hilarious to hear the Leanne Rimes fans just complain about her not being there, some really put up a fuss. It’s even better watching them put up a fuss with the people who have absolutely no control over the situation.

We walked in as “The Next Big Star” aka the opener aka Robert Corona was midway through his set. I have to be honest I wasn’t really paying attention to him, I was making new friends around me at this point because me seat was upgraded. As Mr. Corona finished his set he announced that Kenny Chesney was up next. It was odd to hear that because it was only 8:30pm. I knew we were all in for a very special treat. Rumors were running around that Uncle Kracker would play a set to fill in for Leanne. I would rather have Sammy Hagar fill in but that wasn’t up to me.
