Lady Antebellum - 2012 Summerfest

Four days into 2012 Summerfest and the music continued to flow despite the midwestern heatwave. Saturday, June 30 saw old-school rockers Scorpions and ZZ Top vying for the older crowd; while Lady Antebellum and Darius Rucker performed at the Marcus Amphitheater. The Roots, Three Dog Night and Thievery Corporation rounded out a group of talent that would satiate most musical appetites.

Today started off similar to yesterday, rain rain rain and more rain. The rain caused more flooding again and this time Her & King’s County and Neal McCoy were moved into the Frat House tent. I am laying odds that the Country Thunder production team is glad they have that side stage tent.  The mainstage action started with Lorrie Morgan today with the stage area of the grounds fairly dried out.

Yes, he’s that “Hootie guy” as I heard fans at Country Thunder call him.  They must have not seen Darius’ show yet, because after witnessing it you’ll know him as Darius Rucker.  He does throw a couple Hootie into his set but the rest is all country.  Darius released Charleston, SC 1966 on  October 12, 2010 to rave reviews and has been full embraced by country fans and fellow musicians. This past winter he opened for Brad Paisley on the H2O Frozen Over Tour.
Today when asked what fans should expect for today’s show he replied, “A party!”  Darius delivered!

It’s never easy making a transition in life especially when that transition is moving from mainstream rock to country music. I’ve read the articles poking fun at Darius and I’ve heard all the Hootie jokes, but look who has the last laugh.  Darius recently released his second country album Charleston, SC 1966. The album debuted at the top of the Billboard Country Albums Chart at #1 with over 100,000 album sold in the first week. If that weren’t enough, the first single from that album, “Come Back Song,” has also reached the #1 spot on the Billboard and Mediabase Country Singles Charts, making this his fourth #1 hit since his release of Learn To Live in 2008. He’s performed at Stagecoach back in 2008 and now he’s the opener for Brad Paisley on the winter leg of the H2O Frozen Over Tour.

Darius walked on the stage at Resch Center in Green Bay last night to a standing ovation.  Darius looked country, walked country, and sang country.   He even had the females in the crowd swooning as he took to the catwalk singing “Purple Rain.”  He also had a few sly dance moves that hypnotized the ladies.  Watch out! Maybe Darius should have put on his cowboy boots years ago.

Darius did perform Hooties biggest hits such as “Let Her Cry,” “Only Want to Be with You,” and “Hold My Hand.”  The fans loved it, but if he didn’t play them I don’t think they would have been disappointed.  The fans were already singing along to “Alright” and the “Come Back Song.”  It was the Hank Williams Jr. Cover of “Family Tradition” that set a permanent bond with Darius and his fans the Resch.  It also solidified his status in the country music family.

Darius Rucker Ready for ‘This’; Letterman & The H2O Frozen Over Tour in 2011

Rucker Returns to Letterman and H2O Frozen Over Tour in 2011

Nashville, Tenn.  (Tuesday, January 18, 2011) – Capitol Records Nashville’s Darius Rucker started this week in Nashville with a video shoot at the historic Ryman Auditorium for his new single, “This,” from his sophomore album Charleston, SC 1966—a song he will also perform when he makes his return to Late Show with David Letterman this Wednesday, January 19.  Rucker will end the week returning to the H2O Frozen Over Tour with Brad Paisley in Green Bay, Wisconsin at the Resch Center on Thursday, January 20.  “LATE SHOW WITH DAVID LETTERMAN” (performance)Wednesday, January 19, 2011 (CBS, 11:35 PM/ET)
Rucker will also visit The Gayle King Show, LIVE on XM 156/SIRIUS 195 on January 19 at 10:35 AM ET, LIVE, or at 10 am EST on Oprah’s new Network, OWN.  Rucker recently described his feeling of acceptance into the country music family in Parade Magazine, “I see why people see it as a reinvention, but I don’t feel like I was doing anything that different. For me, it was just getting to do something I wanted to do. It honestly felt like a natural evolution of my career.” An evolution that has yielded four #1 singles—his latest with “Come Back Song”—what could be next on the horizon for Rucker? “I’m going to go out and headline a lot of shows this year,” Rucker shares.  “When we play, we want everyone to leave going, ‘Man, that was fun.’ That’s our goal every night as a band.” For more information, please visit
