In a match pairing two pop music favorites of past and present, Daryl Hall & Chromeo have announced their joint performance on Friday June 11th at this year’s Bonnaroo Festival in Manchester, TN. A reprise of the widely successful collaboration first appearing on a 2008 episode of Daryl Hall’s web series “Live From Daryl’s House”, the Bonnaroo performance will also feature Hall and Chromeo performing together as one unit. A nod to Chromeo’s inimitable take on the blue-eyed sentiment of Hall’s music, the triumvirate of Daryl Hall, Dave 1, and P-Thugg of Chromeo will unite once again for a rare set of Hall & Oates and Chromeo classics.

Having recently released their new single “Night By Night” and a disco-infused mix album for the prestigious DJ-Kicks series, Dave 1 and P-Thugg have been laboriously clocking hours in the studio for their highly anticipated third studio album (see them in the lab on their newly launched blog). Currently slated for an August 2010 release, the follow-up to 2008’s breakout album Fancy Footwork will raise the bar yet again for the electrofunk duo famously known as the best Jewish/Arab partnership in history.

Company of Thieves on Live From Daryl’s House – 1/15

NEW YORK, January 8, 2008-Live From Daryl’s House begins the new year much as it ended the old one, with Daryl Hall playing live alongside some of the industry’s top up-and-coming bands.  For the groundbreaking web destination’s 15th edition, Hall joins Wind-up Records recording artists Company of Thieves, a highly touted Chicago-based band whose label debut, Ordinary Riches, was released digitally Jan. 6 and will be in-stores Feb. 24.  After two days on-sale digitally, the debut is #19 on the iTunes Top Albums chart, and #7 at Alternative.

The band’s lead vocalist Genevieve Schatz and guitarist Marc Walloch will perform a seven-song set with Daryl, which can be seen exclusively on www.livefromdarylshouse.com, including four tracks from the band’s Ordinary Riches album (“Pressure,” “Around the Block,” “Past the Sleep” and “Even in the Dark”), the Hall and Oates song, “Starting All Over” (from the duo’s 1990 album Change of Seasons) as well as the Daryl-penned smash, “Everytime You Go Away,” a hit single for Paul Young.  Hall, Schatz and Walloch also tackle a pair of classic rock covers in the Zombies’ “Time of the Season” and “Piece of my Heart,” made famous by Janis Joplin.

Company of Thieves has been called “one of the city’s most Buzzworthy bands” by the Chicago Tribune, while Billboard dubbed them “one of the best unsigned acts out there” before they were inked to a record deal by Wind-up. Consisting of sultry vocalist Schatz and guitarist Walloch, along with drummer Mike Ortiz, the group earned First Place in the New York Songwriters’ Circle Contest for “Oscar Wilde,” a tune named after the famed Anglo-Irish writer whom the band cites as an important artistic inspiration.

“I am really impressed with what I’ve heard from Company of Thieves,” says Daryl. “They are truly one of the best new, young groups out there. I was really excited to play with them. The sky’s the limit in terms of their future.”

“Daryl and his team of thoroughly experienced and talented musicians provided a welcoming environment for us to work in. The whole day was a huge learning experience for us,” said Genevieve.

“It was so liberating to be able to play freely with no worries because of the caliber of musicians we were around. We loved collaborating with Daryl, T-Bone and everyone who is a part of this special program, and are honored to have been asked to appear,” added Marc.

Past episodes of Live from Daryl’s House have featured a mix of well-known performers like Nick Lowe, K.T. Tunstall, Gym Class Heroes’ Travis McCoy and Finger Eleven’s James Black and Rick Jackett, along with newcomers such as Austin, TX-based acoustic guitarist/songwriter Monte Montgomery, Philly soul singer Mutlu, Canadian techno-rockers Chromeo, MySpace pop-rock phenom Eric Hutchinson and Cash Money Records rocker Kevin Rudolf.

Live from Daryl’s House started with Daryl’s “light-bulb moment” idea of “playing music with my friends and putting it up on the Internet,” and the show has subsequently been praised by such varied publications as Rolling Stone, Daily Variety, Yahoo and the influential Lefsetz Letter.

“IT GOES TO ELEVEN”: CANADIAN ROCK GROUP FINGER ELEVEN MARK 11TH EDITION OF LIVE FROM DARYL’S HOUSE, DEBUTING SEPT. 15

NEW YORK, Sept. 5, 2008—In the mockumentary cult classic This Is Spinal Tap!, guitarist Nigel Tufnel memorably explains how his amp went beyond the norm with a setting of 11. “Where can you go from there?” he wondered. Well, Daryl Hall turns it up a notch with his free web-show, Live From Daryl’s House, this month, featuring Canadian rock band Finger Eleven as special guests on the 11th, and latest, edition, which can be seen on www.livefromdarylshouse.com, starting Sept. 15.

Live From Daryl’s House has become a destination for music fans seeking the latest in up-and-coming artists collaborating with the legendary rock singer/songwriter. This month’s installment features guitarists James Black and Rick Jackett from Finger Eleven, which formed in 1989 in Burlington, Ontario, and were signed to Wind-up Records a decade ago. Their self-titled 2003, gold-certified release included the Top 5 single, “One Thing,” while 2007’s similarly gold Them vs. You vs. Me produced the massive crossover hit “Paralyzer,” which has become the 18th most downloaded song in history, with sales approaching 2.5 million.

Gym Class Heroes Warped Tour 2008 San Diego 3

Ahhh…the last band of the night was the Gym Class Heroes at Warped Tour in San Diego. This was my first time covering Gym Class Heroes, but we have covered these Heroes before in Chicago here. They are out supporting their new release The Quilt which drops September 9th.

All I am going to say about the San Diego performance is that they wanted to take off their clothes, have sex, get high, and see everybody’s fingers in the air. Yes, it was a fun time. For anybody who went: Wouldn’t you say that sums it up too?

More photos and tour dates after the jump.
