2013 Orion Sunday - Metallica

The two-day Orion Music + More festival on Belle Isle in Detroit, Mich. closed with Metallica’s headline set on June 9. Having performed a surprise show the day before, fans were treated to a double dose from the seminal metal act. On a day that also featured Deftones, Gogol Bordello, Dillinger Escape Plan and Rocket from the Crypt amongst a wealth of other talent, the options widely varied.

Alice In Chains - 2013 Carolina Rebellion

Carolina Rebellion returned to North Carolina for the third incarnation of the hard rock music festival on May 4 and 5 at Rock City Campgrounds near Charlotte Motor Speedway. Expanding to a two-day event for the first time, this years festival started on a high note Saturday before slamming to a halt on Sunday due to inclement weather. Though many fans walked away disgruntled, canceling the majority of acts on Sunday was the right choice considering the tragic loss of life at similar events over the past few years during severe storms.

The first annual Knotfest kicked off August 17th in Slipknot’s homestate of Iowa and performed an additional date on Saturday, August 18, in Somerset, Wisconsin at Somerset Amphitheater. The line-up for this inaugural festival included headiners, Slipknot, Deftones, Serj Tankian, Lamb of God, Machine Head, Cannibal Corpse, The Dillinger Escape Plan, The Urge, Prong, Gojura, and more. First annual Knot Fest August 17/18

Knot Fest poster 2012For those who crave a festival where true metal bands dominate the lineup, your time for waiting is over. The first annual Knot Fest is scheduled and judging from the bands set to appear, it will be nothing short of stellar. Knot Fest  will be tearing up the midwest on August 17th in Council Bluffs, IA and Minneapolis, MN August 18th. Advance tickets are $35, and you can bet your going to get more than your monies worth. Headliners Slipknot would be worth the price of admission alone, but also set to appear are Deftones, Dethklok, Serj Tankian, Lamb of god, Cannibal Corpse, The Urge, Gojira, The Dillinger Escape Plan,  and Prong (Yes, that Prong). The members of PENNYWISE have announced that Zoli Teglas, front man for OC hardcore/punk band IGNITE will be filling in on vocals during the band’s set on the 2009 Smokeout Festival at the San Manuel Amphitheatre in San Bernadino, CA October 24th, as they begin they’re search for a new singer.

The two day Smokeout Festival will take place on October 23 and 24 and marks the seminal Hermosa Beach punk band’s first major show since Pennywise singer Jim Lindberg and the band parted ways last month after 19 years together.

Pennywise will be playing on a lineup that includes such acts as Slipknot, Deftones, Cypress Hill, Kottonmouth Kings, Bad Brains, Method Man/Red Man, a recently reunited Sublime (performing with their new singer, Rome) and many more.

TAPROOT Returns September 16 with Highly Anticipated New Album Our Long Road Home

Hot off the Press!

Los Angeles, CA (June 19) – Ann Arbor, MI-based hard rock quartet TAPROOT has announced a September 16th release date for the highly anticipated new album OUR LONG ROAD HOME. The album—Taproot’s first since 2005’s Blue-Sky Research—will be released through Velvet Hammer, the label founded by the management company of the same name (System Of A Down, Deftones, Alice In Chains).

Working with producer Tim Patalan (Sponge, Lovedrug), the band penned more than fifty songs for the album, twelve of which were recorded in a converted barn just a few minutes down the road from vocalist/guitarist Stephen Richards’ home.
