Lights takes your questions TOMORROW on Ustream!

Lights is an Canadian Indie Pop princess that you may not be fully acquainted with yet.  She recently released the remix of “My Boots” to her fans for free.  If you didn’t get a chance to download the remix you can still snag the acoustic version for free here.

Tomorrow (4/12) at 3PM PST/6PM EST Lights will be on her Ustream channel to take fan questions via Twitter.  This is your chance to ask any pressing, or maybe not so pressing, question.  Her Facebook Page is already buzzing about the talk. Neil Werner left a humorous comment on her status, “I asked to marry me, I wonder if I’d get a reply. (sic) LOL.” Other fans were just excited and ramping up for the webcast.

To watch the Q&A go to http://www.ustream.tv/channel/lights.

If you haven’t done so already, take a gander at the Original Lithograph designed by Lights.  She released the lithograph “Brett Says Stay” on 2/14, yes, Valentine’s Day. You can check the litho design here, but alas they are sold out.

Lights Releases “Brett Says Stay” Lithograph

Today Lights released an original lithograph she created just in time for Valentine’s Day.  She titled it “Brett Says Stay Lithograph” and the lithograph is 20″ x 39″ hi-definition litho on heavy matte paper stock. For more information on the lithograph click here.

Lights on her creation:

“I’ve always been inspired by the copious amounts of e

motion that can be captured in one simple comic book panel. It seems like the most extreme drama can be found in vintage romance comics from the ’50s-’70s. I’ve been periodically collecting these kinds of comics for quite some time. In fact, this has become kind of a game for me – cracking a comic book open, placing a finger on a random page, finding some wildly dramatic moment, then inventing an intricate scenario that may have led the subjects to find themselves in that fateful still-frame. I’ve been painting moments like these for almost six years now. Since I’m extremely bad at buying gifts for people (is anyone really good at that?) I’ve discovered that creating paintings for those friends and loved ones can be really special. In a way these paintings are like a Rorschach test, people see what they want to see in them.”

– The painting is the first of four in a series.
– Each lithograph print is hand numbered and signed by LIGHTS.
– There are only 400 copies available worldwide.
– When they’re gone they’re gone.

The litho is available in the IAMLIGHTS.com store for US and international fans as well as the Canadian merch store, Kill the 8.

LIGHTS orignal Lithograph on sale 2/14!

Here’s whatLIGHTS had to say about her creation:

“I’ve always been inspired by the copious amounts of emotion that can be captured in one simple comic book panel. It seems like the most extreme drama can be found in vintage romance comics from the ’50s-’70s. I’ve been periodically collecting these kinds of comics for quite some time. “

Battle Of The Bands Round Two: LIGHTS

Aragon Ballroom – Chicago, IL
April 30, 2010

LIGHTS Aragon Chicago

Second to take the stage at last Friday night’s “Battle of the Bands” was LIGHTS. Also known as Canadian songstress Valerie Poxleitner, LIGHTS has become a force to reckon with in the electro-synthpop, new wave world of modern music. This girl is yet another wildly talented singer/songwriter who was included in the lineup for the evening, sandwiched between Paper Route and Owl City. LIGHTS recreated many of the recorded versions of her songs for the live show, which brilliantly displayed the full belting potential of her normally soft and airy vocal chops.

Lights on Doghouse Records, Old Navy, and “The Hills”

Bottom Lounge – Chicago, IL
October 31, 2008

  • What makes your songs and album (Lights – EP) stand out from some of the rest?  I’ll go back a little bit. I was raised a home-schooled kid, all right? Everything I did, artistically to educationally, was never based on what was around me. It was just based on my own ambitions and on my own perception of what success was. Even to this day, I make what I make and it happens to be in that genre and it happens to be whatever people want to put it in. I’m just doing my own thing. I’d probably be the last person who would know what makes it stand out. I suppose that’s up to the listeners.

Chicago Shines When Lights Comes to Town

Bottom Lounge – Chicago, IL
October 30, 2008

Lights Bottom Lounge - Chicago, IL

Seeing Lights live in concert after listening to her EP at least once every day for the past three months or so was a dream come true. I had first heard the song “Drive My Soul” on MTV’s “The Hills.” Yes, I know, I admit to watching Lauren Conrad and Co. live the glamorous life in L.A. on that ridiculous reality TV show that continues to garner my attention week after week. However, in my defense, I could care less about the “busy” and “dramatic” lives of these girls who don’t have to worry about making their rent each month or paying their bills. I watch the show for the music believe it or not. Even though the show features some pretty mainstream artists occasionally, it also features placements of unknown indie artists whose music is just as good (if not better) than their mega-successful contemporaries. Anyway, while watching the show back in September around the beginning of Season 4, I also happened to be reading a magazine. Out of nowhere, my ears picked up on this new sound and melody and voice that I had never heard before, but instantly LOVED. I jerked my head up (as if that would make me hear better?) and to my utter delight saw the title of the song and the artist it was performed by scroll across the bottom of the screen while LC was breaking up with her current flame…

Hear the rest of my story on how I discovered my new favorite artist and check out more photos of Lights live in concert after the jump!

The screen shot read: “Drive My Soul” by Lights. I can’t even begin to try and explain how excited I felt upon hearing this song. It was like NOTHING I have heard on “The Hills” ever before (I have been watching since Season 1). I actually could not WAIT until the show was over, so that I could run up to my bedroom, go to the iTunes store, look up this Lights person (group?) and check out the 30-second snippets of all of her songs. Well, I pretty much loved all of them. Keep in mind though, that there are only six songs on the Lights EP, her debut album. I bought the Lights EP within two minutes of finding it on iTunes. From that day on, I had to listen to it on my iTouch or iPod each and every day. Her music just somehow makes me feel better about my day/night/life/self. I can’t explain it. Lights performed all six of her EP’s songs at the Chicago show, as well as treating the crowd to two new songs that will be on her full-length album, which will be released next summer. The first and third songs of her set were new, and unfortunately I cannot remember the names of them for the life of me – sorry! I think one of them is called “Savior,” but don’t quote me on that.
