Having interactive yoga sessions for parents and their broods was one of my favorites! I loved watching new and veteran yogis have a blast with their yoga poses. Kids of all ages rocked sun salutations & meditation from New York’s Sweet Soul Yoga. Little yogis even got to play Yoga Jenga! Each piece had a new pose for everyone to do. Genius!

Kidzapalooza 2012

Kidzapalooza 2012

I have to say Kidzapalooza made me sad I didn’t bring my little one this year. Especially since kids 10 and under are FREE!  Kidzapalooza doesn’t only have their own stage and kidz store, they also have interactive play areas to keep your little ones entertained. First I ran into the Q Brothers who were teaching kids how to beat box and rap. It was great listening to kids rap about their favorite colors, foods and animals. Little ones even got to take home a copy of their phat tracks! Next I ran into Lifeway Kefir who had stationary bikes out for kids to ride and a table full of prizes. They were also helping the tikes beat the heat with free popsicles. Rock Star Video Karaoke had kids dancing up a storm in front of green screens singing and dancing to their favorite tunes. offsprings were transformed into rock stars by getting to play their own instruments in the Drumzone. You can’t be a rock star without the right look. No worries! Your rock star in training is able to get glammed with spray on hair-dye from the Punk Hairdoz tent and tatted up with paint on tattoos from the Tattooz tent and really what’s a festival without Tattooz!?

Chicago Ultimate Tumblers (CUT) Blew My Mind at Kidzapalooza

Chicago Ultimate Tumblers Lollapalooza 2012 6

Words can’t even describe how amazed I was by the Chicago Ultimate Tumblers. They awed everyone in Kidzapalooza with their ultimate acrobatic moves! Tumblers jumped off of trampolines leaping over other members of the group and volunteers from the crowd. Some tumblers soared over 17 people! It is definitely a sight to see. I suggest catching them anytime you can! President Orpheus R Floyd says the goal of the CUT is to provide positive after school activity and to focus on mentoring, tutoring and self esteem building. The CUT doesn’t only compete in city-wide competitions; they were also on Season 6 of “America’s Got Talent” and have performed at the White House.

You can follow The CUT on their myspace here . To be awed yourself check out some of their videos here

Do312 Celebrity Kickball 2012

Do312 Celebrity Kickball Game

Do312 Celebrity Kickball Game

It was a controversial game this year! Teams fought over who the real winners were and will be reviewing the tape for bragging rights! It was a close game though, whether it was a tie or really was 7-6 I can’t say. What I can say is it was a great game!

This was Do312′s 3rd year running their Celebrity Kickball game at Lolla. The line-up was amazing! Many celebrity kickballer’s came back to dual over this year’s trophy from Fender made from a real guitar. Breaking Bad’s Aaron Paul, Har Mar Superstar and Greg Corner of Kill Hannah came back for a 3 peat. A couple of my favorite newbie’s who came out to play were Guy Fieri from Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives and Kaylee Defer from Gossip Girl.

Guy was hilarious on the field. Dying to make his way home he yelled “We’re green, we’re mean! Some of us are lean….” It was awesome. He even took over one of the JBTV’s cameras to get a live perspective of the game. He carried it while up at bat and ran around getting shots of the crowd.

This year was the first time fest goers could actually watch the game. It was great to see Lolla fans talk and take pictures with the celebrities. Aaron Paul got to sign an old (not that old) High School year book for a fellow classmate.

Coping with the Heat at Lollapalooza

xrt misting tentLollapalooza started yesterday to a packed crowd and high heat and full sun.  To say it’s hot outside is an understatement.  When patrons pay big money to spend 3 days out in the heat enjoying their favorite artists there has to be a way to cool down.

Having Lollapalooza in Grant Park makes a great location for a festival with great views such as Lake Michigan and Buckingham Fountain, but one drawback is all the concrete that collects all the rays of the sun and lack of trees to escape from it.  Need to find shade? Here’s where to find it and places to avoid.

The Red Bull Soundstage and stages on the north end of the park were good for keeping down the heat due to the fact there was grass and not concrete. It made all the difference especially as the midday and early afternoon hit.

The BMI stage is the best to escape the sun! The stage is nuzzled between a set of trees where many people came to cool down and may not have even known the artist.

The worst stage to be in for the heat was the Playstation stage in the afternoon.  Yesterday during Die Antwoord’s set, there was a handful of us that walked away to find shade as balls of sweat were rolling off our head and back.  It wasn’t pretty.  The good part was, even when finding shade, we could still hear Die Antwoord’s set.

cta cooling bus lollapalooza

The CTA supplies buses around the park for cooling stations.  Yesterday those buses were packed!  Chicago radio station, WRT supplied a misting station for people to stand in or run through.

Forget sun block? No problem! American Family Insurance was around to give out sun block, ear plugs, and hand sanitizer.

Headed downtown today? Don’t forget to dress cool, but sandals are a no-no! Against the steamy concrete, the flip flops will burn your feet!

The Lollapalooza Lowdown!

coldplay lollapaloozaLollapalooza starts tomorrow and we have the lowdown!

2012 tickets sold out in records time, 71 days prior to the event, but those who didn’t score the coveted tickets can stream the show at http://youtube.com/lollapalooza. Live streams and interviews will be available for Jack White, AVICII, The Black Keys, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Frank Ocean, The Shins, Florence + The Machine, and more.

Something cool this year is the stand-alone LollaShop.  The Shop is open to the public through August 6th and has Lollapalooza merchandise and merch from Sony, Goorlin Bros. Hats, Baggu plus many more.  The LollaShop is located Thompson Hotel and the Lounge will host events and artist appearances, and yoga.  Make sure to reserve a spot by RSVPing at http://do312.com/lollashop.

When there is just too much to carry, State Farm is providing a bag check. This is free and located west of Buckingham Fountain.

Lolla + Instagram + Free WIFI

This year Lollapalooza is having bands and fans Instagram photos showing up on the jumbotron around the stages.  Remember to tag all Lollapalooza photos this weekend in Instagram with #lolla.  Don’t use Instagram? iPhone and Android photos also show up in the Lollapalooza mobile app that is available for free on Google Play and iTunes.

To assist in uploading all those Instagram photos, Lolla is providing FREE WIFI around the park.  There will be hotspots near Buckingham Fountain, Lederhosen’s Biergarten, Uncorked Win Lounge, all Lolla Lounges, and more.  The network to select is “2012 Lolla.”

What’s Allowed and Not Allowed in the Park

Since it’s been hot around Chicago and the Midwest, festivals such and Summerfest and now Lollapalooza are allowing patrons to bring in 2 SEALED bottles into the festival.  Also allowed is an empty, refillable bottle.  There will be commemorative CamelBak water bottles and packs at merch booths.  The goal is to reduce the amount of plastic containers in the park with partners Boxed Water and Vita Coco Coconut Water.

Along with the sealed bottles the following items are ALLOWED at Lollapalooza:

Blankets, Sheets, Towels

Umbrellas (ONLY Hand-Held)

Soft-Sided Coolers

The FOOD

For the newcomers to Lolla the food is plentiful and diverse.  Chef Graham Elliot returned as the Culinary Ambassador to oversee the food is top notch.

Not everyone eats meat and besides having some great choices from food vendors, there is also the return of the Farmers Market. The Farmers Market will provide fresh fruits and vegetables to those vegetarians, vegans, and gluten-free patrons.

Activities

Lollapalooza started with showcasing music, but today Lollapalooza has much more to experience than just music.

Green Workshops

In conjunction with the Farmers Market, there will be brief urban gardening workshops provided by Compass Green. These workshops support education in low-income schools.  These workshops are at the south end of Green Street each day of Lolla at 1p.m.

Kidzapalooza

For those who are bringing the kids along there is Kidzapalooza.  Kids 10 and under enter the festival within Lolla for free.  It has its own stage and interactive games from Rock Star Video Karaoke to hip-hop workshops with the Q Brothers. Face painting is also taken to a whole other level as kids are transformed into rock stars and get a photo shoot all glammed up.

Do312 Celebrity Kickball

For the 3rd year running, DO312 put together a stellar line-up for the game that takes place Saturday morning at 11:15a.m.  at the north end of the festival by the Red Bull Soundstage.  This year’s celebrities include Breaking Bad’s Aaron Paul, Chef Guy Fieri, Ryan Cabrera, Alderman Proco Joe Moreno, Chris Holmes, Greg Corner, Har Mar Superstar, Ryan Paradise, Dave Ziebarth, Kaylee DeFer from Gossip Girl.

Time:11:15 a.m.
Place: Grant Park/Lollapalooza Grounds
Who:  Many celebrities

do312 celebrity kickball game

For the past 2 years the Celebrity Kickball game at Lollapalooza has been quite entertaining.  Most observers that arrived at Lolla early on Saturday ran into the game in full kick-ass mode.  Some walked right past as the likes of Elijah Wood (Lord of the Rings) and Aaron Paul (Prison Break) showed the crowd their kickball skills, or maybe lack of. This year Aaron Paul is back and will be joined by Chris Holmes, Greg Corner, Har Mar Superstar, Ryan Paradise, Dave Ziebarth, Kaylee from Gossip Girl and more!

So where do you find the kickball game? The game starts at 11:15 a.m. and last year it took place in front of the North side stage, which would be The Red Bull Soundstage this year.

FYI this year the game is presented by Groupon and Fender donated a trophy for the winning team!

12 Acts to Watch at Lollapalooza in 2012

Lolla 2012 Santigold Sharon Van Etten Dev

It’s been awhile since a festival has seen this much speculation about its line-up.  Lollapalooza’s line-up was “leaked” twice before the actual announcement come down the pipe from Lollapalooza.  The first was a Twitter hoax and the second came just a few days ago with a nice visual of the full line-up for 2012.  As the second leak appeared online the chatter spun into high gear.  The talk of the Red Hot Chili Peppers playing in Chicago and Milwaukee so close to Lollapalooza was brought up in defense of how “off” the leak had to be.  Also no one could believe that Black Sabbath would play a show without Bill Ward, and possibly, Tony Iommi due to his cancer.  Yet some people forget that Black Sabbath is probably getting paid a pretty penny to be a headliner and I am going to gander that Black Sabbath didn’t reunite because they thought of some killer new material to perform.  It all comes down to money and if Bill Ward won’t play they will find someone else to, and if Tony can’t make it, the same will happen.

Aside from the conversation above, people aren’t exactly salivating at the mouth about the line-up, as it was very apparent on Lolla’s Facebook page when the leaks began and started to be confirmed.  The thing is The Black Keys just played Chicago and hit Milwaukee May 16th, Florence + The Machine is set to play Milwaukee at the end of April, and as previously stated, The Red Hot Chili Peppers is playing dates in Chicago close to Lolla.  That being said, there isn’t much of a draw for the Midwest as most of the headliners have or will hit the area relatively close to Lolla time.  It would be nice if Lolla announced a really large act that would be more of a draw, and the one thing missing from the line-up is the hip hop/rap act.  It was starting to be a staple of the fest for a couple years running, but it looks like Coachella took that thunder this year.  Heck even Summer Camp snagged Common.

So why go? There are so many talent acts performing that it’s not even funny.  Here’s our list of the 12 non-headlining acts that are sure to grab attention at Lollapalooza.

Lollapalooza 2012 Headliners Leaked?!

lollapalooza logoUPDATE: (4/9/2012) Another leak of the full line-up!! http://thedeadhub.com/2012/04/09/lollapalooza-line-up-leaked-again/

If you are on Twitter you may have noticed a battle between Perry Farrell (@perryfarrell) and Lolla Leaks (@lollaleaks).  Farrell has gone as far as comparing the Lollapalooza insider that is running Lolla Leaks on Twitter to a sex offender (see images below).

Just 9 hours ago Lolla Leaks posted the supposed 2012 Lollapalooza headliners including Metallica, Beyonce, Red Hot Chili Peppers, The Killers, Beck, and Sonic Youth (Final Show).  A few of the artists actually make sense.  Metallica hit the East Coast and the West Coast with the Big 4 last year and have their festival this year that IS NOT in the Midwest. For Metallica to completely skip over the Midwest just seems too cruel.  The Red Hot Chili Peppers are also on tour and would fit the Lollapalooza bill.  The only artist that I would have reservations about is Beyonce, but this could be her big post baby show.  I personally hope there is some truth to it, because I wouldn’t mind seeing all the bands, but hot damn it would be insane!

2nd Annual Do312′s Celebrity Kickball

Do312 Celebrity Kickball Game 2011

I started off my Saturday morning at the 2nd Annual Do312 Celebrity Kickball Game. Elijah Wood, Aaron Paul, Brie Olson, Friendly Fires, Chris Holmes, members of Kill Hannah, Local H, Alkaline Trio, Lovehammers, and some local media personalities battled it out in front of the South Stage at Lollapalooza. Hilarity definitely ensued with missing kicks, players running off with home plate and a three person collision! What an awesome way for bands to chillax and take in a good game of kickball.

Celebrity Kickball Lineup:

Lolla’s Keeping it Green!

rock and recycle lollapalooza tentRock and Recycle Booth

Love how Lolla tries to make the festival as echo-friendly as possible. Here are my top picks of how Lolla Cares:

The use of biodegradable plates and utensils

toyota green bike
Bikes Used to Generate Power for Toyota’s Slushy Machines

A plethora of garbage and recycle bins:

Lollapalooza set up a Rock and Recycle stations that gives concert goers the opportunity to earn free Lollapalooza t-shirts.  Each participate is issued a green recycling bag to take with them around the festival grounds. Once filled the bag is returned to the station for a free t-shirt.  It is a huge success. We witness ticketholders walking around the grounds, even during performance times, walking around asking people if they had anything to recycle. Many obliged to recycling their beer cans and water bottles.  The program this year was so successful that they ran out of green recycling bags and had to use regular garbage bags.

Green Street:

Green Street was made up of a Marketplace made up of organic foods and green vendors.  One of the vendors were giving away 4×4 squares made of recycled and biodegradable paper that is embedded with wildflower seeds that is meant to be planted.

Camelbak Filling Stations:

For those who purchased or owned camelback backpacks for water could refill them for free at several stations on the grounds.  This reduces the amount of water bottles consumed by festival patrons.

Bike Valet:

Taking your car to Lollapalooza is about the worse thing you could do and it’s not just for environmental reasons. With 90,000 ticketholders each day, the amount of people on the busy streets of Chicago gets more crowded.  Public transportation is highly recommended to use and many did. Bikes were also a popular form of transportation.

Lollapalooza Toyota Seasaw

See-Saw That powered the Toyota Tent

The See-Saw and Bikes at the Toyota tent:

Toyota had a clever way to get the attention of passing Lolla fans.  They gave away reusable cloth Lollapalooza bags, bandanas, and slinkies.  They also had a see-saw in the front of the tent and when in use it would power the lights in the tent. There was also a set of bikes in the tent that powered the slushy machine.

What a gorgeous evening! Before the headliners took to the stage the night sky lit up with beautiful laser lights and fireworks. I could not believe the massive amount of people who turned out for Coldplay. Just when you couldn’t think anymore people could fit in the North end they just kept squeezing on in. This was my first time seeing Coldplay and they sounded awesome throughout the grounds. The excitement of the crowd was so uplifting that I forgot just how tired I was from the long hot day. Fans from around the world tuned in to Lollapalooza’s live stream to watch Coldplay. Their Facebook page was swarmed with dedicated fans commenting on how much they enjoyed the show and wished they could be there.

Every Teardrop is a Waterfall

Dancing it up at Perry’s Stage with Lady D, Girl Talk & Kid Cudi

Lady D lollapalooza

Lady D at Perry's Stage

So Perry’s Stage was ginormous this year! Everyone who played there was under an enormous tent which was great for hiding from the rain, but ended up being a hot and sweaty place to party with Lady D & Girl Talk. Lady D’s dance party opened up with some samples from The Isley Brother’s “Who’s That Lady”, The Commodores’ “Three Times a Lady” & Modjo’s “Lady”. I honestly thought Lady D would have a bigger crowd since she is a Chicago native. But the crowd got a lil skimpy when she hit the deck. Yet the crowd that was there was fun! Everyone showing their love dancing around and for some in a drug induced state. I swear I was bound to get a contact high just from being in the center of the crowd!

Girl Talk mixed it up at Perry’s! I was so excited to see the Gregg Gillis’ hot and sweaty body but I was nowhere even close to seeing anything! The party was so mammoth it was spilling outside of Perry’s tent into the streets. The party was definitely hoppin’ and I was so sad to not be in the center of it all.

Kid Cudi Kanrocksas

The third day of Lollapalooza can make you feel like a slacker. I mean 3 days in the sweltering heat can take it out of you!  Cudi was scheduled to headline Sunday night against Foo Fighters & Deadmau5. Rumors flooded the grounds saying Kid was gonna cancel his show. Many fans ended up heading out early due to all the rain that hit the grounds in the afternoon. But there were some troopers that hung in there for the long hall!

More photos are on their way! (photos of Kid Cudi are from his 8/5 performance at Kanrocksas)

Dancing to Ween at Lollapalooza

Ween

Ween Kanrocksas

Ween @ Kanrocksas 8/5/2011 Photo By Dan DeSlover

Where are all my ol’ skool hippies at? Probably seeing Ween at a stage near you! Ween was at the top of my list of acts to see on Saturday and boy am I glad I got to catch them! So much fun…from the awesome lyrics to the random dance circles that spread across the South end there were good times to be had by all. So what if Gene thanked Bonnaroo? Then tried to recover jokingly by saying “Thanks Kansas City”. I don’t even care! Cause with lyrics like; “Stuck in my Cabana, living on Bananas and Blow” or “She gonna be my cock professor, studying my dick / She’s gonna get a masters degree in fucking me” who could stay made at him!?

Eminem at Lollapalooza

Eminem
Lollapalooza
Grant Park – Chicago, IL

Out of the entire fest I was most excited about Eminem. Even though there were some pretty amazing acts this year my main focus was seeing Slim Shady. Sadly, I was highly disappointed – at no fault to Eminem. He looked great up there! The fault all laid in Lolla’s hands. First of all Perry’s stage was so loud it was seeping throughout the North end. The whole North side was overcome by a sea of people. I was standing around the middle of the field just out by the jumbotron and I could barely hear him. Souded like his mic kept going out, the music wasn’t very loud and even the screen nearby kept losing its signal. While talking to my peeps we used our normal voices. We didn’t even have to shout. This is not good my friends! It’s a concert, I should have to yell to talk to the person next to me.

Anyway! Other than the tech malfunctions Shady was fantastic! Playing new songs from Recovery and of course playing some oldies; “Stan”, “The Way I Am”, “The Real Slim Shady”.

Em’s backdrop’s were filled with all sorts of images, some cheesy but cool. During “Stan” the music video played, while playing “No Love” there was a beating heart, Shady also showed some Detroit love and had car moldings being formed and sprayed.

Eminem had special guest Bruno Mars come out for “Lighters”.

Shady called Chicago crazy and said he was gonna prove it. He asked the crowd “Who gets fucked up?”…..crowd cheered….”Who gets fucked up to the Recovery album?”….more cheers….”I told you!”

Even tho Eminem has his funny side he also took a moment to be serious. While talking about sexual escapades throughout the festival season he went into Nate Dogg’s “Area Codes” and paid tribute to Nate Dogg. RIP 1969-2000.

Overall I loved being able to see Eminem. Words can’t even express how tickled I am that Shady is back! It has been too long since I have seen him live and his shows just keep getting better and better. Love you Shady!

Cee Lo Bombed at Lollapalooza

Cee Lo
Lollapalooza 2011
Q Unlimited Stage
Chicago, IL

I really hate to be writing this review – scratch that- I can’t believe I am writing this review. I caught the last 15 minutes of Cee Lo’s set on Saturday at the south end of the festival at Q Music Unlimited stage.  I apparently only needed to hear the last 4 songs to get the feeling for the entire set.  I walked into the show right before he was going to play a cover that he said, “Some of you may recognize.”  I didn’t recognize it, but that is neither here nor there because the song had to be restarted to get the introduction correct.  If having to restart one song wasn’t nerve-wracking enough, the band had to restart the next song, “Crazy”,  also!  It was obvious that this wasn’t going as planned for Cee Lo.  There was a point in “Crazy” where it sounded like he was mumbling lyrics as if he forgot them.

He announced that the next song was going to be his last.  I turned to the man standing next to me, that I had never met before in my life, and he said, “It’s only 7:10!”  Cee Lo cut his set 15 minutes short of what was listed on the official Lollapalooza schedule. The set was so disappointing because Cee Lo can really kill it when he’s hot. For example his group performance on The Voice.  That was sensational! I think that’s what we were all expecting. After the show I had to ask several others that were there if they heard the same thing. We were all in shock at the train wreck that happened on the stage.

The positive of it all is he looks fabulous! His stage show alone is entertaining, but he doesn’t seem to be the live performance type.  I’d rather have Cee Lo stick to writing, recording albums, and collaborating with other artists. That is where he truly shines!

Chicago’s Very Own Gold Motel Rocks Lollapalooza

Gold Motel
Lollapalooza 2011
Playstation Stage
Chicago, IL

Gold Motel is:
Greta Morgan – vocals, keys
E. Hehr – guitar
Dan D. – guitar, vocals
Matt Minx – bass
Adam Coldhouse – drums

It was their first time playing Lollapalooza for these hometown rockers. For those unaware of Gold Motel, the band is composed of the former lead singer of The Hush Sound, Greta Morgan, this Is Me Smiling’s Dan Duzsynzski, Adam Kaltenhauser, and Matt Schuessler. along with the Yearbooks’ Eric Hehr.  After her stay in Southern California she returned back to Chicago with a five song EP in hand and started collaborating with friend Duzsynzski.  It didn’t take long for the duo to turn into a full band, thus creating Gold Motel.  They released the physical copies of their debut Summer House in December 2010.

Their set at Lolla was hot! Literally… there were actual misters onstage to cool down the musicians. Many Lolla patrons hit up the Playstation Stage at 12:15 to hear Gold Motel.  For some having the first time slot at a stage can mean performing to just a handful of people, not for Gold Motel.  They had an advantage of being hometown performers.  They played “Summer House” along with their new single, as of last week, “Leave You in Love”. Also on the setlist, “the Cruel One” and “Slow Emergency”.  Greta also made note to the crowd that it was her mother’s birthday.  The fans were happy to oblige in wishing her mother a happy one.

If you missed them at Lollapalooza, there are still chances for you to catch them live in the Midwest.  They have a couple dates with fellow Chicago rockers, Company of Thieves, which we spotted in the media lounge!

Lollapalooza Expands to Brazil

lollapalooza brazil logo

lollapalooza chile logo

Perry Farrell kicked off Lollapalooza this morning with exciting news! Last year Perry and the gang expanded the Lollapalooza franchise to Chile and next year not only will Lolla take place in Chile on March 31-April 1, but also in Sao Paulo, Brazil at the Jockey Club April 7-8th. The Jockey Club is an iconic site in Brazil. It is in the heart of Sao Paulo which is the largest city in South America. The location is prime for the 20,000,000 locals. The stage setting is on a racetrack where Eminem performed his historic concert last year. Perry said, “The Brazilians have a very rich history of celebration. If we (Lolla) can rub together with them, there’s no telling what heights that party will reach.” The two international locations are natural expansions for the historic Lollapalooza brand.

This morning at the press conference talk of the economic impact on Chicago was touched upon. Lollapalooza brings in $85 million into the local economy. Roughly 40% of Lollapalooza crowd is from out of state and the festival sees 90,000 fans, or weirdoes as Perry called them, walk through the gates each day.

The Parkways Foundation has teamed up with Lollapalooza and takes in $8.5 million from the festival. The money isn’t just reinvested back in the rehabilitation of the Chicago lakefront, where Lollapalooza calls home for 3 days, but expands into the city where neighborhoods need it most.

If partnering with The Parkways Foundation wasn’t enough, Berkley School of Music also teamed up with Lolla to give out a full scholarship to Berkley School of Music each year to students who audition and meet their criteria. The scholarships are backed by Goldman Sacs.

METRO/SMART BAR WELCOMES LOLLAPALOOZA PERFORMING ARTISTS AUGUST 3-6

Metro and Smart Bar are pleased to welcome Lollapalooza performing artists Wednesday August 3 through Saturday August 6, 2011. This series of evening shows, taking place the week of the Lollapalooza festival in Chicago, will provide music fans the opportunity to see some of today’s brightest stars in an intimate club environment. Tickets to all shows go on sale this Friday June 24 at 10am at the Metro Box Office and at metrochicago.com / smartbarchicago.com.

On Wednesday August 3, the Lolla-related festivities begin with Nelarusky: A Pre-Lollapalooza special event benefiting Special Olympics Chicago featuring Cold War Kids, Gold Motel, Carbon Tigers, Katz Company and Rachel McClusky. California’s Cold War Kids have been making music together since 2004. Their full length albums Robbers & Cowards and Loyalty To Loyalty led to non-stop touring around the world for several years on end, including a 2009 gig opening for Death Cab For Cutie. In between tours, they somehow found the time to record songs for their latest release, Mine Is Yours, which came out on Downtown Records in January. Come be among the first to see the new songs performed live in Chicago! Tickets are $26, and all proceeds will benefit the work of Special Olympics Chicago. The show is 18 & over and starts at 7pm.

The fun continues on Thursday August 4 with Death From Above 1979 and Metz. Toronto’s Death From Above 1979 took the dance-punk world by storm with the release of their album, You’re A Woman, I’m A Machine in 2004. Certified as a gold record in Canada, the album was released on Vice Recordings in the U.S. and brought the music of Jesse Keeler and Sebastian Grainger to American audiences. The band broke up in 2006, but after five years of silence, they recently announced their reunion and will play Lollapalooza as well as a handful of other shows this summer. Don’t miss the return of Death From Above 1979! Tickets are $26. The show is 18 & over and starts at 9pm. [Read more...]
