Ahhhhh, the heart and soul of music is definitely the bass instruments and there’s nothing better than feeling that vibration go through your entire body when your at a live show. This particular one I think was the best display of bass fueled music I’ve ever seen. Apocalyptica kicked off their North American tour here in San Diego. The Finnish band trotted out onto the stage with their four electric cellis and found their places on the large skull-like prop seats made to look like a cellos’ body. Cool. These four hot guys (an extra cellist was on hand for the performance and was referred to as Mr. Cool) with their hot base drummer fired the crowd up with several songs from their new album Worlds Collide along with playing some of the best cover versions I have ever heard of Metallica songs that are near and dear to everyone’s hearts. Among the Metallica songs covered were: Seek and Destroy from Kill’em All, Call Of Ktulu and Fight Fire With Fire from Ride The Lightning, Nothing Else Matters and Enter Sandman from the Black Album.
The guys interacted wonderfully on stage and were never insulting to the audience, thereby making this one of my best experiences at a concert. They were full of energy and got the crowd moving along and singing with them. The set was almost two hours long and included multiple encores. By the end everyone was wishing it was only the beginning.
My new favorite song from the new album is definitely worth a check out. It’s called I’m Not Jesus. (You can find it on their site as well as on myspace or youtube.) Of course I couldn’t leave without purchasing the new cd and a hoodie. Both were completely worth it. The cd has been uploaded to my computer for home listening and the cd stays in my vehicle for listening to over and over and over again.
