JoJo surprised fans with a Christmas treat this week, releasing a remake of the holiday classic, “The Christmas Song.” “I wanted to give this to you guys because I’m so grateful for your support,” says JoJo in a special video message with the song, which is streaming now on Youtube.
Love You Back
On “Love You Back” – the latest from singer/songwriter Jazmine Sullivan – the too-young-to-feel-this-old songbird warbles a piece she co-wrote called “Famous.” A well blended orchestral pop nugget with one of the coolest guitar bits buried in the melancholy conclusion, the song fairly warns of what is to come for Philly native who stretches musical borders to their breaking point. We Are Scientists
Sometimes pure pop music is fun. Unassuming guitar licks that mollify rather than mystify can be a breath of fresh air. Sweet melodies with predictable harmonies can elevate a song from the shuffle to the must-play playlist.
We Are Scientists is a group of pop-maestros who have released a harmless – but thoughtful – collection of songs just in time for your barbecues and backyard parties.
If not taking themselves seriously was a competition WAS would be gold medal winners hands down. Their irreverence is cheeky, but accessible. It is quirky and silly without being insulting.
Their website (worth a visit) is filled with important items such as horse upholstery and a call for a remake of the 2002 cinematic dud “Scooby-Doo!” (They are calling for a “Doo-over.’)
The humor translates to the music – not that these are novelty songs, rather they are lightweight loves songs that turn the convention on its ear. For as humorous/irreverent as the lyrics of these songs can be, the band takes their playing very seriously.
This ten song collection logs in at a hair over 30 minutes. While this might be cause for alarm – it does recall another pop band that recorded short songs and didn’t take themselves seriously.
Of course I am talking about The Monkees.
Seriously, treat yourself to a light splash of summer fun with some delicious pop music courtesy of We Are Scientists. This is one disc you won’t mind getting stuck in your stereo for a couple of weeks.

George Michael: Live in London
George Michael’s 25th Anniversary Tour was 105 shows in 80 cities in 41 countries. Did you catch it?
My first George Michael concert was actually last year in San Diego, where he kicked his 25th Anniversary Tour off in the United States. I was a bit hesitant to go at first my friends poked fun at me for going to see George Michael. Deep down inside we are all George Michael fans. I did have another ticket and offered it to them but no one took it. Boy, did they miss a fabulous show! When I heard they were releasing George Michael: Live in London I was elated! I just received it in the mail and already watched the 2 hour epic show.
The show itself captured the live show in the States perfectly. For those who caught the show this is a great piece of memorabilia to own. Plus, you don’t have to pay the inflated prices that you would at the concert.
The DVD covers George’s hits but also has short clips before and after the show of George driving to the arena. It’s pretty funny footage! The show itself, in London, was nothing but spectacular. It was the last show on the 25th Anniversary Tour and as George said it’s the only show he is releasing in FULL on dvd.
The second disc of the two disc set is a documentary directed by David Austin. The Documentary takes you from constructing the monumental stage, George Michael under the stage (no dirty jokes), to meeting George’s father. This is a true gift for yourself or the George Michael fan in your life.

You’ve already heard Los Angeles four-piece Free School’s music. You just don’t know it. The collective of prolific co-writers – Jean Baptiste, Nick Marsh, Michael McHenry and Replay (just Replay) – have quietly been writing hit songs for chart-topping, platinum-selling pop acts, including Kid Cudi (“Heart of a Lion), Kelis (her forthcoming album), Black Eyed Peas (The END), and Good Charlotte, to name a few.
As one of pop music’s most potent secret weapons, the group have a very busy upcoming year – they are releasing their own album and developing a live show for 2010.
Keep your eyes and ears peeled for more info!
Kelly Harper is a pop singer. You may have already heard some of her hits on TV, especially if you have tuned into MTV. She has already broken stereotypes of just “the good looking blond” by having her song “New Best Friend ” striking at number 38 for four weeks on Billboards R&R Top 40/CHR indicator charts. We had the privilege to talk with Kelly recently about her childhood, her new album, and her plans for 2010. Yes, there is a tour in there!
Dead Hub: What is your fondest memory of your childhood days?
Kelly Harper: I remember mom bought “Star Stage” microphone. I would go down to the basement and there would be spotlight hanging and I would turn the music on and sing to different music. I would also shut my door and sing on my bed if it were the stage with the animals would be my audience.
DH: Can you tell me about “Forever Tears?” It’s a pretty sad song!
Kelly Harper: I co-wrote it with someone. It’s based on personal experience! Everyone had a good or bad childhood and my songs are definitely from personal experience. The song is about when my parents got divorced and me going through it. It was hard for me to write it and listen to it….still.
2009 has been a busy year for Mateo between going on tour with Day26 and J. Holiday, his multiple mixtapes, and his new brand new EP, Get To Know Me (Live At Swing House).
As the year wraps up, Mateo is set to play a very special show on December 2 at SOB’s in New York as part of the Get To Know Me Tour
Mateo has also released a video for the song Get To Know Me that was filmed live at Swing House.
It would be an understatement to say that Green River Ordinance have had a busy year. The Fort Worth, Texas quintet have toured with the likes of Gavin DeGraw, Jack’s Mannequin, The Academy Is, Kate Voegele and most recently American Idol winner David Cook in support of their major label debut Out of My Hands. They worked with producers Mark Endert (Natasha Bedingfield, Maroon 5), Jordan Critz and Paul Ebersold (Sister Hazel, 3 Doors Down) on the album which builds on the strengths that got the band noticed, with accessible, hook-laden songs suitable for cruising — windows down and radio blaring. Reminiscent of arena-ready, larger-than-live rock bands, Green River Ordinance expertly blends emotive vocals, guitars-to-11 and anthemic choruses to deliver moments certain to move crowds with lighters (or cell phones) inevitably waving in the air.

American Idol Alum, Katharine McPhee is being featured as the iTunes Discovery Download for her cover of the holiday classic, “I’ll Be Home For Christmas.” You can download the song for free on iTunes for this week only.
Dead Hub: Congrats on the success of Sexy People on the Billboard Charts!
Lolene: It’s so amazing!
Dead Hub: Can you tell us about the Victoria Secret and “Sexy People” partnership?
Lolene: You are the first person I am telling this to. Yeah, I am a big fan of Victoria secret! They are, what I consider, the high-end lingerie line. It’s going to be a big campaign over Christmas. It is very competitive commercial! I am so flattered they picked “Sexy People” over so many other artists! “Sexy People” is the new Victoria Secret song!! Sexy song for a sexy brand!! I hope I get to do some in store performances, or have music that can be placed into the (shopping) bags.
Happy Halloween Everyone!
I was sucked in the moment as I heard they wore superhero t-shirts and used a Nintendo System in their show. I also fell in love with these guys as soon as they said they release their music for free(most of the time). I am so happy to hear small bands that come to their senses with music. They know they need to get people to hear it before people would be interested in buying it.
Boys Like Girls & Cobra Starship
Henderson Pavillion – Henderson, NV
Boys Like Girls
I will admit I hadn’t heard much about either of the two bands, Cobra Starship and Boys Like Girls, which played last night at the fairly new venue, the Henderson Pavilion, in Henderson NV. Cobra Starship and Boys Like Girls marks them as the biggest artists to have graced the stage at the new venue thus far. It was a shame that the bill, which also included A Rocket to the Moon and Versa Emerge, was scheduled for a Sunday. Judging by the crowd of mostly teens the fact that there was school the next day may have kept the crowd size down. Yet as the house lights dimmed, Cobra Starship and Cobra Starship hit the stage, the kids rushed to the front of the stage giving the feeling that there was a decent size crowd.
Photos from Boys Like Girls and Cobra Starship after the jump…
Lead singer Gabe Saporta quickly got the crowd going with “While the City Sleeps, We Rule the Streets” from the band’s debut album of the same name. What followed was a swift set of the bands brand of catchy pop/electro/punk that the crowd gladly absorbed complete with hand signals of a Cobra for the bands song from the movie “Snakes on a Plane”. Finishing up with the hit “Good Girls Go Bad” from their current album “Hot Mess”, with keyboardist Victoria Asher filling in for “Gossip Girl’s” Leighton Meester on the female vocals, the band managed to make what could be a rather large venue when filled to capacity into a nice club venue for the night. After a speedy set change it was time for Boy’s Like Girls to hit the stage.
Singer Martin Johnson approached the mic and as the flashbulbs from the screaming teen bathed the stage, he launched into the song “Lovedrunk” from the band’s latest release. The bands blend of pop/punk easily kept the crowd in a frenzy and judging by the crowd singing every lyric they were “lovedrunk” with adoration for the band.
Johnson, and other bandmates John Keefe (drums), Bryan Donahue (bass) and Paul DiGiovanni (lead guitar) were appreciative. The night closed with the hit “Great Escape”. Hopefully this is just a precursor of the bands that will soon be filling this nice new venue and from the reaction of tonight’s show if you book them they will come. Just maybe not on a Sunday!!

Her quirky, tongue-in-cheek lyrics, universal pop melodies and trademark curly hair, British dance floor Barbarella Lolene is a hot topic. Coining the term, “awkward pop,” Lolene describes her sound as “Joan Collins in Dynasty, Studio 54, white jump-suits, and disco balls.”

This pop masterpiece has every element possible to get you hooked on first listen…

These performances will take place on Friday, September 11; Saturday, September 12; Friday, October 9 and Saturday October 10, 2009. Show time for each performance is 8 p.m.
These once-in-a-lifetime, up-close-and-personal performances at The Pearl are the first of its kind and surround the highly anticipated release of Mariah’s latest album, Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel which features the current hit single “Obsessed.”
“Obsessed” was written and produced by Mariah, The-Dream and Tricky Stewart, who are responsible for the majority of tracks on the new album. Memoirs is scheduled to arrive on September 15, 2009.
Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel, the 12th studio album of Mariah’s career, is the eagerly anticipated follow-up to her RIAA platinum-selling album E=MC² (released April 15, 2008), and her worldwide 10 million selling The Emancipation Of Mimi (released April 12, 2005). Both were Soundscan #1 debut albums that made chart history for Mariah in the U.S. and numerous territories around the globe.
The Emancipation Of Mimi generated three Grammy awards (including Best Contemporary R&B Album), two #1 singles and countless more honors during its 18-month chart stay. The album debuted at #1 with first week sales of 404,000 copies, Mariah’s highest first week sales total (until E=MC²). Soundscan’s biggest-selling album of 2005, Mimi featured “We Belong Together” (Grammy winner for Best Female R&B Vocal and Best R&B Song) and “Don’t Forget About Us,” Mariah’s 16th and 17th #1 career singles respectively. They tied one of the most enduring chart records in Billboard Hot 100 history, Elvis Presley’s 17 #1’s.
According to TMZ Michael Jackson was hospitaized in Los Angeles on Thursday (June 25) after suffering cardiac arrest and now they are saying he was pronounced DEAD. Other papers are not coming out and saying he’s passed. To me if someone suffers cardiac arrest that means their heart stopped and it’s not going to beat anymore. This is Michael Jackson’s camp, so I am sure they won’t come out and say until they absolutley have to.
Soma Sidestage – San Diego, CA
Written by Nadia Ibanez
When I first heard that I was going to Soma to check out Kate Voegele, I was stoked. I was amped to check out one of this year’s hottest new teeny bopper bands that was causing a raucus on Myspace and teen focussed sitcoms on the WB. I didn’t know too much about Kate other than that she was gorgeous and her music sounded typical bubblegum pop, which I’m totally okay with.
First of all, Soma is a pretty cool venue. I heard through the grapevine that the venue used to be an old movie theater. I’ve checked out the Soma calendar previously and there are some great alternative and Indie bands that make a stop at Soma while in San Diego. As soon as we walked into where the stage was, it was ridiculously hot and stuffy. There was absolutely no air conditioning, no ventilation system, nada. We waited 20 minutes after 9:00 for Kate to come on and my crew and I were sweating bullets.
Yes, you heard right. Lilith Fair is back in 2010. According to Terry McBride they are putting together the itinerary and artists right now.
I never actually went to a Lilith Fair concert, but I am not going to miss this one. I heard so many good things about past years ones that I almost feel guilty for not attending.
Can’t wait to hear more!

LAS VEGAS – May 11, 2009 – Sexy pop sensations The Pussycat Dolls, perform their energetic stage show at The Pearl Concert Theater inside the Palms Casino Resort on Saturday, June 27, 2009.
After forming in 1995 as a burlesque troupe under the direction of famed choreographer Robin Antin, The Pussycat Dolls burst on to the pop scene as an all-girl pop group and dance ensemble in 2005.
With the release of their first self-titled album in 2005, the Dolls made an impression landing at #5 on the Billboard charts. The group, which consists of front woman Nicole Scherzinger, Melody Thornton, Kimberly Wyatt, Jessica Sutta and Ashley Roberts, rode a wave of success as the album produced multiple hit singles including “Don’t Cha,” “Buttons,” “Wait a Minute” and “Stickwitu.” The Dolls received a Billboard Music Award for “Don’t Cha” as Hot Dance Music/Club Play Single of the Year. “Wait a Minute” featuring Timbaland became a top 40 hit worldwide in 2006.
Double Door – Chicago, IL
OK GO came home to Chicago and rocked out! OK NO, they performed Thursday night in Chicago at the Double Door. It was a pretty good show, not my favorite but just pretty ok. OK GO known by most for their hit song “Here it Goes Again”, accompanied by the extremely entertaining treadmill video.
The band is composed of Damian Kulash (lead vocals and guitar), Tim Nordwind (bass guitar and backing vocals), Dan Konopka (drums and percussion) and Andy Ross (keyboards, guitar and backing vocals), who joined them in 2005 in replacement of Andy Duncan.
The original members formed as OK Go in 1998 and released two studio albums before Duncan’s departure. The band is notable for their unusual fashion sense and their energetic music videos.
The show was petty packed, and the audience seemed to really enjoy the show. My favorite part was the cool bell song they did (What To Do). Check it out here!
And I loved the encore which consisted of 3 songs from their latest album. The songs were Skyscraper, Good Idea, and Invisible. But one thing I did not understand is why they felt the need to blow confetti like 4 times?? That made no sense to me, and it actually even started to get old by the end of the show. They also seemed kind of tired or something the whole time.
I give the show two stars. It just wasn’t very memorable.
Photos of OK GO in Chicago:
Erin released her debut album back in January and you may have heard a few of her songs already. Several of her songs landed on hit tv shows such as Grey’s Anatomy and One Tree Hill.
Erin says her influences are Fiona Apple, Patty Griffin and Greg Laswell (the latter of whom co-wrote “Bobblehead”). “I just love how true and raw their lyrics are,” she explains. Listening to records by these musicians is more than enjoyable for McCarley—it’s inspiring. “I get one line into one of their songs and I have to stop and write my own,” she says. “Their lyrics are that much more powerful because of the way they sing them.”
Catch her tour dates with Jack’s Mannequin, Matt Nathanson, and Mat Kearney after the jump!

“AMERICAN IDOL” FINALIST MICHAEL JOHNS TO RELEASE DEBUT ALBUM HOLD BACK MY HEART JUNE 23 ON TRP RECORDS
LEAD SINGLE “HEART ON MY SLEEVE” TO IMPACT RADIO APRIL 21 AND WILL BE AVAILABLE ON iTUNES APRIL 14
Los Angeles, CA (April 6, 2009) – A year after his electrifying performances made him a favorite with “American Idol” fans around the world, singer-songwriter Michael Johns will release debut album Hold Back My Heart on June 23 through TRP Records being distributed by Downtown Records/Fontana.
Johns was a top ten finalist during season 7 of “American Idol” and his departure from the show drew outcries from the series’ mega-million-strong audience and helped inspire a new rule for the current season. This year sees the show using a new “judges save” rule for the top 13 finalists, allowing judges to keep a contestant from being eliminated prematurely. When introducing the new rule, the show ran footage of Michael Johns, Chris Daughtry and Jennifer Hudson and asked “what do these three Idols have in common,” with the answer being that all three were sent home too soon.
Not that Johns is complaining.
House of Blues – Chicago, IL

Amazing show—that is, if I’m a 12 year old girl thrilled to be at one of my first concerts of my life. Regardless, David Archuleta’s ability to sing is undeniable. He was a contestant on American Idol in 2007.
The 18 year old walked on stage on Sunday at about 8 pm to the roar of a sold out House of Blues crowd. After his first song, he asked the audience’s permission to take a picture with them in the background “to remember the night.”
Once that was over, it was an hour long performance of Archuleta’s self-titled debut album, along with some of his favorite cover songs. There wasn’t much of a set on stage but the crowd clearly was not paying attention to nothing else but him.
Showing how modest he is, Archuleta thanked everyone for their applause after every song trying to talk over all the screaming fans. But modest or not, he has the chops to sing and will certainly continue to sell out venues across the country.

Gabriella Cilmi US debut, Lessons To Be Learned, is available in stores today! I am excited because I really like her music. It’s a different kind of pop. I don’t really want to say edgy because I believe it is a very abused term. I thought I would never use the word again when it was used in reference to Ashley Simpson. Gab is a really sweet girl though she says that “Nothing is Sweet about Me.”
Check out our review of Lessons to Be Learned and her FIRST performance in Los Angeles here.
While you’re reading the Dead Hub listen to the full stream of the album below!
It’s a funny thing, when did big-named artists performing on cruise ships become the in thing? Let’s see, there is the cruise ship with New Kids on the Block and now there is one with Sara Barielles and friends. The performance is courtesy of VH1 Save the Music and Carnival Cruise. John Mayer is the headlining man onstage and is also joined by friends Gavin Rossdale, Jordin Sparks, O.A.R., Sara Bareilles, Guster, Erin McCarley and DJ Logic for a one night only event that will take place the evening of March 26, 2009. My question is which cruise would you be taking?
The New Kids VS John Mayer
Ok…I am going through the Dead Hub posts and re-categorizing every post. Yes, it painstaking and time consuming especially since we have nearly 800 posts. I realized, “Wow, we have lots of content!” Then I realize that there are posts in here that never got published. Ooops! This one was supposed to be posted back on May 17th. Again, not really sure why it didn’t appear on that day. You can think of this as me remembering 2008 since I didn’t do any of those “Best of” articles.
So onward…..or backwards..

Maybe I am a little too practical. I am trying to figure out Madonna’s song “4 Minutes.” I am watching the video on YouTube right now and I can’t figure out what the song is about. Apparently they only have four minutes to say something and I wish they would just say it to get to the point. Maybe the song wouldn’t have to be 4 minutes long if Madonna would just stop chasing after the insanely sexy Justin Timberlake. By the way Madonna is 50 years young (Go Madonna!). I really have been a fan of hers for a long time but she lost me completely after her Music album. The one thing I wish I could see is her wearing more than just a corset in videos. I know she’s buff and beautiful, she knows she’s buff and beautiful, but I think next time Justin Timberlake should be running around wear almost nothing. Just a suggestion. By the way, the length of the video is 4 Minutes and 7 Seconds. Hmmmm..
Yesterday I posted the “Falling Faster” video and song stream. Today is the video for “Gotta Make You Mine.”
