LAS VEGAS – September 21, 2009 –Alternative metal powerhouse band Slipknot ends their fall tour with a Halloween stop at The Pearl Concert Theater inside Palms Casino Resort on Saturday, October 31, 2009 at 8:00 p.m.

Halloween is a special date for the band, not only does the theatrical group sport Halloween masks and stage names, but the band self-released their first album Mate. Feed. Kill. Repeat… on Halloween in 1996, just one year after forming in Des Moines, Iowa. The release of that album led to buzz that caught the eye of Roadrunner Records. Roadrunner signed the band in 1997 and released their first studio album, the self-titled Slipknot, which went on to become certificate platinum, the first platinum album in the label’s history.

Slipknot’s Corey Taylor Goes Solo!

Slip Knot Mayhem 685

While Slipknot gets ready to hit the road for tours celebrating their 10th anniversary of the masked Iowa group’s first album, frontman Corey Taylor wont be going back to his other band, Stone Sour, anytime soon. Instead he is making plans to record his first solo album.

“I know I have this album that I need to make,” “and I’m the kind of guy that if I can’t get that done then it’s going to hold me back from all this other stuff I want to do. I just know I’ve got to make it or I can’t branch out.”

He adds that there are “a lot of songs I’ve written that don’t fit with either band, really” and describes the material as “kind of a cross between the Foo Fighters and Social Distortion, with some Johnny Cash mixed in.” Country will be part of the mix, “Obviously there’s a country background that comes built-in with living in Iowa,” Taylor notes, but he also promises that “there’s a lot of upbeat, just flat-out hard rock tunes.”

“I’ve never let myself get painted into a corner,” Taylor explains. “I’ve refused to accept the fact that I can’t make any kind of music I want. I think it took people a minute to understand that, but now I’m at a point where I can do anything and people will take it seriously.”

But until September, when Slipknot is scheduled to finish touring, Taylor says he’s seriously committed to the group, which is continuing to tour in support of its fourth album “All Hope Is Gone.”
The nine-piece group plans to tour the U.S., Canada and the European festival circuit with a show Taylor says is “getting away from the pyro and way more visual, video-oriented this time.”

And, he acknowledges, it feels good to have a 10 year anniversary marker. “It’s funny because I’ve seen so many next-big-things come and go in the last 10 years, and I look around and go, ‘Wow, we’re still here.’ Every time we’ve put an album out people would write us off, but … we just kept getting bigger and bigger and bigger,” he says.

“It not only proves so many people were wrong but that we were right,”. “My dream wasn’t just to make it but it was to stay here and be able to do whatever we want to do, which is just how it’s worked out.”

Pardon the bass distortion on the Slipknot videos that I am posting. Standing right next to the speakers and monitors doesn’t make for great sound quality even when volumes are adjusted on the camera.

This would also be a great time to do a disclosure. The Dead Hub obtained permission to video Rockstar Mayhem 2008. We are not responsible for the acts and messages displayed by the artists or patrons in the videos. None of our videos are censored so you view at our own risk.

We also have videos from Underoath (Song 1/Song 2) with more Mayhem artists to come.

This is the first of 2 videos from Underoath’s performance on the Rockstar Mayhem Tour in San Diego, CA. Look out for more Mayhem Videos and a Video Gallery coming your way.

UPDATE: Sorry, switched video players. I hated to do it. I’m on the hunt for a HQ Player online that won’t cost hundreds of dollars on my end to use. In other words, we are back to the crappy Youtube quality videos. Sorry, it kills me too!

ROCKSTAR ENERGY DRINK MAYHEM FESTIVAL DETONATES ON IMPACT FIRST WEEK OF TOUR EARNS RAVE REVIEWS AS MEGA-PLATINUM-SELLERS SLIPKNOT AND DISTURBED LEAD MIGHTY METALFEST

Los Angeles, CA (July 24, 2008) – The Hollywood Reporter said that it “makes heavy metal matter once again” and Billboard called it “one of this summer’s most anticipated hard rock tours.” But the Phoenix New Times said it best when they wrote “metalheads would be hard pressed to find a better festival bill this summer than the Rockstar Energy [Drink] Mayhem tour.”

Led by mega-platinum-metallers SLIPKNOT and DISTURBED, the first-ever ROCKSTAR ENERGY DRINK MAYHEM FESTIVAL launched in Seattle last week to rave reviews from fans and critics alike. The traveling roadshow tore up the west coast with speaker-shredding intensity, offering concertgoers full-throttle performances, festival activities, and an unintentional surprise or two. As reported on MTV News, the festival made headlines after its first show in Washington, when Slipknot’s DJ Sid Wilson leapt from a riser stationed at the back of the stage and landed hard, breaking both his heels. But as the band’s percussionist Shawn “Clown” Crahan told MTV, nothing will stop Slipknot from making this tour a memorable one. “We’re blowing all the carbon out of the motor and just hitting it,” he said.

Slipknot are giving fans a sneak preview of songs from their highly anticipated new album All Hope Is Gone, including lead single “Psychosocial.” (The video premiered on MTV last Friday and will be in heavy rotation on MTV and MTV2.)

Disturbed’s self-produced album “Indestructible” marks the band’s third consecutive Number One debut on Billboard’s Top 200 album chart, making them one of only six other rock bands in history to score three straight Number One debuts with studio albums. “Indestructible” was certified gold with over 500,000 units sold just 5 weeks after its June 3rd release. The band has been wowing festival-goers with new songs from the album, including powerhouse hit lead single “Inside The Fire,” which is a Top 5 all time Active Rock chart topping song with 13 weeks and counting at Number One, and is the band’s sixth Number One single. Disturbed is currently on the August covers of Metal Edge and Revolver magazines, and just graced the covers of the previous issues of Revolver, Guitar World, Drum! and Metal Hammer magazines.

I am going to admit none of the Dead Crew stayed for the Slipknot set. It was decided we’d rather beat traffic out of the parking lot. I must say even though we only stayed for 4 songs of the set, it could have been the most interesting 4 songs.

The show started with the smoke machines producing so much smoke photos and video were tough to get for the first song. Corey, the frontman of the band, was drooling onstage that made for some gross but very interesting video. We’ll have that up soon, I promise.

As Sparky got kicked out of the barricade after her 2 songs of shooting video she was walking up the walkway to the right of the stage. As she sees me, I notice a security guard and a guy in mask running up the way. Of course it wasn’t good. Sparky ended up being pushed into the temporary railings and down she and the railings went. Apparently Slipknot’s drummer jumped offstage and ran over everybody in his way. It was very rockstar-like, but also very arrogant and rude.

After we peeled Sparky up from the ground and she figured out what just happened to her we gathered the Crew and headed out as Slipknot went into the only Slipknot song I knew, “Before I Forget.” A few of us just don’t understand Slipknot, Corey is such a great singer and isn’t an eye sore yet people love Slipknot in masks. Yes, I understand it’s a gimmick.

I am really enjoying Corey singing for Apocalyptica on “I’m Not Jesus.” That is a great song. If you haven’t heard it yet, don’t worry it doesn’t sound like Slipknot, and you can actually understand the words he sings.

Rockstar Mayhem Tour 2008 Disturbed Cricket Wireless - Chula Vista, CA 7/16/2008

I was just finishing up my interview with Tim from Underoath when we heard a crash of music and we both looked at each other. The two of us knew Disturbed was starting and I headed onstage to see the show as Tom scattered away.

Rockstar Mayhem Tour 2008 Disturbed Cricket Wireless - Chula Vista, CA 7/16/2008Dan Donegan

David Draiman, frontman of Disturbed, was wheeled out on “dolly” with a straightjacket and mask on, think Hannibal Lector. He was in a Department of Corrections jumpsuit, which turned some of the female patrons on. They started with “Perfect Insanity” which had the crowd warmed up for “Liberate.” The crowd was insane especially the general admission area. One fan, maybe a Slipknot fan, started throwing crap onstage. I think I almost got hit myself with whatever objects he was throwing. Right before “Divide” Dave went to stage left, where I was standing, and pointed his finger into the crowd and asked where the coward in the Lamb of God Shirt was. He and security proceeded to scour the crowd for the not so friendly fan. David even threatened the missing fan that he would beat his ass when he finds him. Dave also shouted to the crowd, “You have my permission to beat him!” He then took a moment to say, “You don’t fuck with the guy with the mic!” The crowd was fully energized by this point and it was a great segway into “Divide.”

Rockstar Mayhem Tour 2008 Disturbed Cricket Wireless - Chula Vista, CA 7/16/2008John Moyer

They covered a few songs off their new album Indestructible. The songs were power-packed when performed live, especially “Indestructible” and “Inside the Fire.” The backdrop of the stage changed from the Disturbed logo to the Indestructible’s album cover.

They ended with “…The Sickness” and there was no encore because Slipknot was next. Can I tell you from the backstage perspective how tight security was for Slipknot. It was almost princess-like of them. The media had to clear out of our designated media area because it was too close to the stage. That’s only the beginning.

When at Mayhem make sure to get a good spot in GA for Disturbed. It’s one set you shouldn’t miss!

Mitch

Suicide Silence is San Diego’s hometown boys on the Mayhem Tour. This metal quintet started off the days festivities to a large crowd on the Hot Topic stage. They didn’t waste time in making the crowd move. They opened with the heart pounder “Unanswered.” The fast paced hardcore metal didn’t stop there. Mitch, Suicide’s lead singer, introduced “Girl of Glass” as a love song. What did I expect? Not sure, what I heard was an even more heart crunching song that could woe any woman that loves the sound of walls of guitars and in your face metal.

Suicide Silence is not a boring band to watch.Their stage presence is huge and energetic. No wonder why their debut album, The Cleansing, broke records for Century Records.

Their set list for the day:

Unanswered
Bludgeoned to Death
Hands of a Killer
Price of Beauty
Girl of Glass
Fallen
No Pity for a Coward
Destruction Breakdown

Their fan base is quickly growing and for all the UK fans out there they will back to visit you this fall and back in the states in December.
