Social Distortion Rave Milwaukee 2011 7

Formed back in 1978, Social Distortion is icons in the punk rock scene.  If you say you’ve been a Social Distortion fan for 10 years apparently that’s nothing. I saw someone last night receive a “pfff” from a fellow Social D fan for just being a fan for  10 years.  Not many bands can stick around for 10 years much less have fans for that duration.  Social D Fans that actually made it through their comeback album, Prison Bound, in 1986 deserve some credit, but also date themselves.

So many fans, young and old, turned out that the Rave had to move the show from the small Rave stage upstairs to the much larger Eagle’s Ballroom.  It’s been a while since I’ve seen the Ballroom packed to the brim. The night was started with the Sharks and then Chuck Ragan, who won the crowd over.

Social D’s set was filled with a vast array of songs dating back to the likes of Prison Bound up to their new album, Hard Times and Nursery Rhymes.  The crowd erupted midway through the set when Chuck Ragan’s fellow stage mates joined Mike and the gang onstage for several songs.  It was a treat to have a fiddle player and even an accordion player in the mix.  This was a first time for even the hardcore fans.  The night ended with their big hits “Story of My Life” and Johnny Cash’s “Ring of Fire.”  The show didn’t have an encore and when fans realized that everyone high-tailed it out of the venue.
