Produced by Johnny K – known for his work with 3 Doors Down, Disturbed, and Sevendust, not to mention his Grammy Award-nominated collaboration with Staind, 2008’s “THE ILLUSION OF PROGRESS” – and mixed by the legendary Chris Lord-Alge, “STAIND” stands as Staind’s most intense and powerful work to date.  Singer/songwriter/guitarist Aaron Lewis recently described the album as “the heaviest thing we have recorded in a long time.  It’s definitely one of the heaviest collections of songs that we have put together.”

“It’s completely different than the last record,” agrees guitarist Mike Mushok.  “It’s more of a throwback to where we came from.  I definitely think it’s fresh. It’s a modern-sounding version of a heavy Staind record.  It’s pretty cool.”

“STAIND” has already earned advance acclaim from ARTISTDirect, which hailed the album as a “timeless masterpiece,” praising Lewis’ vocals for “reach(ing) heights that only legends can touch.”

Aaron Lewis Flies Solo and Acoustic in Irvine

Aaron Lewis and Fred Durst

I walked into the Verizon Wireless Amphitheater thinking we were about to go see Sick Puppies, Hinder, Staind, and 3 Doors Down. It was a surprise to me to see just Aaron Lewis alone onstage after the Hinder set. I must admit I complained a bit that the rest of the band wasn’t onstage that night, but was over that very quickly.

Aaron put on an full acoustic show, when I say full I mean, it was just him and 2 guitars that he switched out after every other song or so. He really doesn’t need a full backing of a band because his voice is amazing. It’s even more amazing that his voice is so strong even while chain smoking onstage and inbetween songs. It was very rock and roll.

At the Irvine stop, this was their 9th day straight playing, or so Aaron Lewis said. Can’t blame him for being tired and having to fill the shoes of an entire band. He covered Bob Seger’s Turn the Page, which Aaron said was very appropriate for him right now. This was a great chance for Aaron to play the songs in different arrangments and experiement with the crowd. One of the songs he played was “Tangled in You,’ which was written for his wife and opened with, “I hope I don’t fuck this up!” The crowd was quite pleased with his entire set. Especially when a second stool was placed right next to Aaron’s and Fred Durst walked out onstage and sang “Outside” with Aaron.

Even minus the band, Aaron rocked to a full crowd at the Verizon Amphitheater. Staind is out in support of their new album Illusion of Progress.

Staind Teams Up with 3 Doors Down Yet Again

First Midwest Bank Amphitheatre – Tinley Park, IL

Staind First Midwest Bank AmphitheatreAaron Lewis – Vocals/Acoustic

The last time I saw Staind was back in 2005 or 2006 when they were opening up for the latest 3 Doors Down tour. The second time I saw Staind was last night when, lo and behold, they were opening up for the latest 3 Doors Down tour. I have to admit it though, Staind and 3DD are a perfect match when it comes to music genres. I was so glad they played So Far Away (2003), which is my absolute favorite song of theirs – not to mention one of their biggest hits! And of course, they played It’s Been Awhile, their breakthrough commercial radio hit from 2001. Right Here (2005) was another song performed by the four guys last night that everyone knew the words to. Singer/guitarist Aaron Lewis is the most laid-back, relaxed and quiet lead singer in a rock band I have ever seen. He doesn’t scream at all, but instead just stands still, plays his guitar and sings his songs. I love the fact that he doesn’t fit your typical rockstar stereotype of being loud, crazy and over-the-top. He is just so chill and I love that about him and his band. He moves slow, sings slow, plays slow, which is opposite of 3DD’s frontman. But it’s so refreshing to have a band that just wants to play good music and not worry about the over-produced aspects of a rock show. Staind has a new album coming out next month called The Illusion of Progress with a new single entitled Believe. View photos from the show below…
