Over at Sonos.com they made a pretty infographic about the origins of the bands that are performing at SXSW this year in Austin, TX. This year SXSW has over 500 bands from 45 countries and those are just the official ones set to showcase and perform. SXSW also attracts many other indie bands that want to get noticed and the music continues all day and all night. There is no way you CAN’T find some kind of live music happening when SXSW is running.

The Depreciation Guild To Release Sophomore LP “Spirit Youth” May 18th On Kanine Records
The Depreciation Guild To Release Sophomore LP “Spirit Youth” May 18th On Kanine Records Announce US Tour With Serena Maneesh / SXSW Dates To Come
Kurt Feldman joined the mile high club last year. Oh, it’s not what you think. Well, not exactly.
“You know how airplane cabins have a drone to them?” asks The Depreciation Guild frontman. “Well, it’s like an A note, and I was singing melodies over it in the bathroom.”
One of those melodies—first captured on a cell phone, mind you—weaves its way through the opening scene of Spirit Youth, the album that rewrites just about every assumption about Brooklyn’s most promising dream-pop band.
For starters, The Depreciation Guild is not Slowdive’s second-coming. While Feldman and guitarist Christoph Hochheim also play in the Pains of Being Pure At Heart, they founded The Depreciation Guild two years prior to the Pains’ formation. The two bands complement one another, with Pains teetering on the twee side of things and The Depreciation Guild building its very own blend of 8-bit beats, clanging chords and heady hooks.

New Zealand’s Kerretta Make US Debut in March 2010
Band Set to Kick-Off US Tour at SXSW 2010 & Release Debut Album Vilayer
New York, NY – New Zealand’s Kerretta will be making their US debut this March with a SXSW show and US tour. To coincide with SXSW and the upcoming shows, the band will be releasing their debut album – Vilayer – Stateside for the first time.
For those yet to experience the propulsive, driving rock from this instrumental three-piece, they’ll have a chance to see them push the envelope of tone and dynamics in an intense set. Their catchy, sometimes ambient brand of molten-core will appeal to fans of Sleep and Isis, but discerning listeners will know the trio peddle a uniquely atmospheric take on angular rock. Kerretta has shared the stage with the likes of Explosions In The Sky, The Breeders, Mono and …And You Will Know Us by the Trail Of Dead and their debut album Vilayer earned them a nomination for the “Taite Music Prize” (New Zealand’s equivalent to the UK’s Mercury Music Prize).

THE KISSAWAY TRAIL
THE KISSAWAY TRAIL
(Bella Union; April 20, 2010)
The Kissaway Trail premiere their video for the single “SDP” exclusively with Filter Magazine.
The Kissaway Trail (Bella Union), from Odense, Denmark, are releasing their 12-track LP, entitled Sleep Mountain via Bella Union on April 20th, 2010. Eleven of the tracks are original, and one is a cover of the haunting Neil Young song, “Philadelphia,” the title track from the 1993 motion picture by Jonathan Demme. Sleep Mountain is a brilliant sonic assault. With all 5 band members sharing vocal duties, 4 on guitar and 2 on keys, the sound results in glorious melodies, epic choruses, and high octane energy. This pop-savvy rock band arrives on US shores to open arms and will play here for the first time in 2 years with performances at SXSW.
The clanging of church bells on the bombastic opener, “SDP” leads the charge into the panoramic sensation of the album. Sleep Mountain guides listeners through varying moods and emotions with dramatic cadences. Album standout, “Don’t Wake Up” is an impressive tune showcasing the use of euphoric electronic sounds and raw guitars, displaying what this band does best. “Beat Your Heartbeat” is one of the most joyous yet melancholic songs on the record with its dramatic drum patterns and multiple vocal chorus repeatedly chanting “they will beat your heartbeat.” Sleep Mountain is a contemporary, timeless and vulnerable rock album.
Citizen Dick premieres the NEW single from TWIN TIGERS
::Download Twin Tigers- “Passive Idol” MP3::
Athens, Georgia. Home of the Twin Tigers and the local restaurant, Grit. Whereas this little establishment might look innocent it is here that guitarist and vocalist Matthew Rain and bassist Aimee Morris met, began dating and fell in love. In the dust of their previous band projects the Twin Tigers were born. Joined by drummer Doug Crump and guitarist Forrest Hall after a rash of previous bandmates the permanent equation was cemented. The band went onto release the Curious Faces Violent Future EP in February 2008.
The band quickly started building a solid fanbase throughout the southeast and played their very first SXSW. Their loud, chilling and excitable sound made them a perfect fit on bills paired with such bands as: Les Savy Fav, Deerhunter, Dead Confederate, Black Lips, Dungen, Woods and A Place to Bury Strangers.

SELECT DATES SUPPORTING LITTLE BOOTS BEGIN MARCH 2nd IN NEW YORK, LEADING UP TO SXSW
Vancouver’s Fan Death (aka Dandilion Wind Opaine and Marta Jaciubek-McKeever) have just announced a series of highly anticipated live shows this March, bringing their beautifully dark, theatric take on classic electronic pop to many North American cities for the first time. On tour supporting the UK’s electro-pop phenom Little Boots, dates begin March 2nd in New York, concluding with several appearances at SXSW to be announced.
Recently amassing over 100,000 YouTube views alone for their cinematic videos “Reunited” and “Cannibal”, the duo will also join Vampire Weekend next month for their European tour, including many sold-out UK venues. The tour will showcase brand new material from the upcoming Last Gang Records release A Coin For The Well (out February 23rd) and offer a first look of what to expect from the debut album Womb Of Dreams (slated for a May release).

ADVANCE STREAM OF TRANSFERENCE BEGINS TODAY AT NPR MUSIC
AS PART OF “EXCLUSIVE FIRST LISTEN” SERIES
January 11, 2010; Washington, D.C. – For the third year running, NPR Music will present, broadcast and webcast the opening night showcase of the South by Southwest Music and Media Conference in Austin, TX, when it brings Spoon to headline Stubbs on Wednesday, March 17. The concert will kick off Spoon’s U.S. concert tour in support of its forthcoming album, Transference.
NPR Music is offering an advance stream of Transference, one week before its release, now through January 18 as part of the “Exclusive First Listen” series. Hear the entire album for free at www.npr.org/firstlisten Transference will be released on January 19 by Merge Records.
As in years past, NPR Music will live webcast and broadcast the entire showcase from Stubbs. The concert will be streamed live, podcast and archived at www.npr.org/sxsw, and will be available for broadcast on NPR Member stations across the country, including live on KUT in Austin. NPR Music is partnering with five NPR Member stations – KUT Austin, WFUV New York, WXPN Philadelphia, KEXP Seattle and The Current from Minnesota Public Radio – to offer extensive coverage of the influential music festival on-air and online. Additional bands in the lineup at Stubbs, and NPR Music’s complete schedule of events, broadcasts and webcasts at SXSW 2010, will be announced in the coming weeks.
Transference is Spoon’s first album in three years, following the critical and commercial success of 2007’s Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga. At SXSW, the four-member band will have just returned to its native Austin, following a European tour. The concert at Stubbs will mark the first U.S. performance of material from Spoon’s new album. While frontman Britt Daniel has said Transference is “uglier” than the band’s previous records, it’s still a mix of perfectly orchestrated pop songs. “The music of Spoon has always been an exercise in careful restraint,” says NPR Music producer Robin Hilton. “And Transference is the band’s tightest, most flawlessly executed album to date.”

Everyone from Nirvana to Pavement to Stone Temple Pilots cite Meat Puppets as one of the most significant American bands.
The highly influential Meat Puppets started as a punk rock band, but established their own unique style, blending punk with country and psychedelic rock. Meat Puppets later gained significant exposure when the Kirkwood brothers served as guest musicians on Nirvana’s MTV Unplugged performance in 1993. The band’s subsequent album Too High to Die went gold, selling over 500,000 albums, and became their most successful release. The band reunited in 2006.
Recorded at The Saltmine in Phoenix, Arizona in winter 2009, the album features the Kirkwood brothers, Cris and Curt, with drummer Ted Marcus.
Sewn Together will be released on May 12, 2009 on Megaforce Records.

Phil and the Osophers grab it by the tail- shows, lots of albums, books, art! SXSWEET!

“Modern art makes Phil & the Osophers want to get their eyes fixed. The Brooklyn three-piece make like Doc and the Tors in the loose, ramshackle clip for loose, ramshackle indie-pop tune ‘High Art’ ” – Pitchfork
No ones goin’ to bring it to SXSW harder than Phil and the Osophers. Get yourselves there!
The band has put out FIVE albums via their own sustainable label, Factual Fabrications. Their latest “Toward Conquering The Invisible North” recieved rave reviews and garnered a delightful video for High Art, in which the band perform laser eye surgery on a friend. While digital is the most sustainable resource, Osophers fans can still buy their physical albums from Factual Fabrications. All album art are printed on recycled paper and they use only recycled jewel cases. That keeps the cost and price down. Ingenius!
In other news, all 3 members have written and published books of poetry and non-fiction through their own publishing house called ILOANBooks. Bass player Gus has published NINE books, Drummer Kevin has published two, and Phil has just written his first book of poetry entitled “SHAKE! and other rattlers” They will have these for “sale” at SXSW, along with all 5 albums. Detroit’s Own Deastro To Release Debut LP “Moondagger” Out June 25th On Ghostly International
First Single “Parallelogram” Out Now To Rave Reviews
On Tour Now, Announce SXSW Dates

Pitchfork Media Forkcasts “Parallelogram”
Paste Magazines Band Of The Week
Real Detroit Weekly “Artist Of The Year”
When Randolph Chabot, the 22-year-old auteur behind Deastro, is asked about the title of his new album, he recounts a dream about a prince, a kingdom, an evil King of Darkness, and a search for the mythical “Moondagger,” the bearer of which wields ultimate power. And while Moondagger, Deastro’s astonishing new album, does contain traces of that dream–in all of its bittersweet, fantasy-novel glory–the record itself is infinitely more down-to-earth, containing the sort of unrelentingly earnest, inspirational pop music that could only come from a kid weaned on fiction but living desperately, joyously in the here-and-now.
Moondagger expands upon the positive electro-pop of Keepers – Deastro’s home-recorded opus from 2008 – with the addition of a full band. Thankfully, the mercurial, prolific Chabot still seems blissfully unaware of his music’s genreless-ness. Thick, atmospheric production obscures bright, starry-eyed melodies; ecstatic synth squiggles dance around new-wave beats on songs about Nordics, toxic crusaders, and geometric shapes; arrangement ideas bounce off one another within ambitious song structures that swerve left, then right, then left again.
And yet underneath all of their seeming irreverence, Deastro’s songs are breathtakingly down-to-earth – melodic slices of synth-led experimental pop whose energy builds with each iteration of the chorus, hitting emotional peak after emotional peak until they collapse in a heap. The album-opening “Biophelia” can barely contain its heart-in-throat urgency, Chabot’s rapid-fire delivery slicing through layers of shoegaze-y ambience; “Vermillion Plaza,” plucky synth arpeggios ricochet off cavernous echo-chamber walls, Chabot pleads for human contact, asking “would you be my son, ‘cause of all of mine have died?”
